  1. I've booked an event for 60 clients for the Costa Rica game as it's the only 5pm kick off in a work night. But just realised England have Italy and Uruguay before that - good luck with that! Now regretting it as nobody will turn up when you lot are out after two games.
  2. OK so if GG didnt play his first gig in East Dulwich.... - Did he ever play at what is now the EDT? - And can anyone recall the EDT being called The Goose Green or similar?

But if you give but don't expect to receive then you'll seldom be disappointed. And you'll have made the world a slightly better place.
  4. Love how people think we can become Sweden, a country a population of just 9M and a very different legacy. And France? Well they had the right idea but went too far and so you have a vacuum for entrepreneurs. When you don't offer people at least some reward for taking risk (with their own after tax income) to create new jobs then you kill it. Balance is required and all people are saying here is that it's still out of whack in the UK.

    Hipsters

This thread was done in 2011....http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,804059,804822#msg-804822 One thing I do like about hipster style is that it's one of the most identifiable stylings of any tribe since heavy metal, punk and teddy boys. If it makes people talk then it's probably a good thing. We cant all be seen in John Lewis Gant sweaters and corduroy. Unless you're the proto-hipster Carnell of course. I broadly admire the micro-capitalist entrepreneurialism. You could argue the movement has single handedly regenerated the inner urban retail and food scene for the better. Agree there's a particular type who are annoying....but aren't we all to a certain extent?

  7. The new Ganapati will deliver there no probe. I had one the other night and it was top notch and a really good price. South Indian seems to taste much fresher than the usual sludge too.

    Storage

...and there you have it. The self-storage business model is a lucrative one for three reasons: 1. With increased consumption and consumerism. People are accumulating more "stuff" than ever before. 2. Storage companies can build secure premises in sub-prime city locations. So cheap land and potential to dig down using 2-3 levels of otherwise unprofitable underground space. 3. There are high on-going subscription rates. Which means easy repeat revenue. Why? Because a human predilection for hoarding means most customers store junk in there, never confront chucking it out and forget about the monthly fee. TED, I know you're a bit bonkers, but you need to throw your shit out. Freecycle is your friend, makes people happy and it postpones the journey to landfill.

Good points but without the poise and balance of the great Ted Max. Who is in my opinion untouchable when it comes to the written form. (No pressure for your next one Ted).
  12. Tonight an old cabbie from Camberwell told me that the EDT used to be called the Goose Green. And that Gary Glitter played his first ever sung there for the first time. True or false?
  13. Back at my place it could mean only one thing. An earthquake of 6.5 on the Richter scale. Here? It's only Flat 24 with their washing on.
  14. Fox,is that you?

  16. Speaking of which, where is he? Has he gone off to the Family Room or something?

  19. I fear it would be a breach of their birch and cello buffeted privacy to share Miss King. Does it matter? They are never here as they spend most of their time in Los Angeles at their main home in Beverly Hills "doing the circuit". The terrace they own in the streets off the park is just the London bolt hole. To the best of my knowledge they've never been in Sainsbury's. I like Dulwich Park and see all types in there most weeks Phil Daniels style. That's how it should be.

The no mans land of Beauval, Woodwarde,Dovercourt and Eynella. The ?1M+ houses on these streets are lovely. Big 90 ft gardens, solid Edwardian build quality, side entrances and leafy front gardens. It's a weird place. Lots of left-leaning middle class moved here in the 70's or 80's when it was cheap and stayed and they're now 60+, asset rich, cash poor. The peaceful tranquility is a blue rinsers dream. Lots of pastels, golf jumpers and one of the highest violin/clematis ownership rates in the country. It's discrete... hence Micky Flanners, Jo Brand and one Hollywood B lister. I think the houses are undervalued. They should all be at least ?1.8M.
  21. It is but a brisk stroll for the fit amongst us Jezza....and after stepping out the en-suite shower and an espresso on the terrace there's a veritable spring to the step. But wait, is that a woman in swimwear on balcony five? A chaffinch gracing ancient oak? The butcher delivering succulent rib? And HIGH SPEED broadband?? I might work from home. Closer to the burning Armenian firepits of Peckham. And a mere speck from All Fired Up. Life has never been sweeter.
  22. A Cafe Rouge would be nice though....
  23. Oh king of solidly built East Dulwich new builds, I salute thee! Private underground parking. A balcony view of St Pauls through Goose Green's oak trees. Traffic and yet birdsong. 5 mins from The Mighty Gowlett. 30 secs from The Flying Pig. 5 mins from the station. 2 from the EDT. Near all night Londis. Dulwich leisure centre. "I don't like new builds but Altima Court is ok" Damn right. And for one week only I'm going to enjoy it. Is this the most handily convenient place to live in all of East Dulwich?
  24. I think the 90's throwback faux-French Cafe Rouge is much maligned. Sometimes you don't want the latest Iranian diffusion eatery in a reconstructed Peckham back alley. Sometimes you want a 5 minute walk, half a roasted chicken and chips and glass of Chablis. For ?15. It's so uncool it's almost hip again.
  25. Something tells me he might be. Great result!
