  1. Southend? Do you know the fear that sets in when your fairer half books a mystery holiday RD? I'm terrified that it might involve a beach, or somewhere hardline that doesn't show sport. Like Iran. All I want in June is a shady bar with a fuzzy TV and some cold beers. Not happy.
  2. Love it! I hope I'm wrong but it's going to be England to be out after their second game and UK press to put it down to a "transitionary year" in which the "golden generation finally passed on the torch"...things can only look up etc. I love the world cup. First memory was 7 years old watching the 1982 final on a black and white portable TV. Mexico 1986 saw Ferguson take Scotland to Mexico and I first saw the brilliance of Brazil, a team with seemingly magical names....Zico and Socrates. Overhead kicks and the Mexican wave. This year I'm going on a mystery holiday first part in June so hoping that wherever it is is on a decent time zone or I'll miss England Italy...and the first 8 games.
  3. For some reason Malumbu is the only poster for whom I hear their voice as I'm reading their words. And for some reason I hear a 48 year old quite refined Jamaican gent. Always smiling as he gently teases with his harmless but annoyingly inane posts. Does anyone else hear voices like this as they read or is it just me?
  4. spooily timed x post with ????
  5. Whatever your view...if you're disillusioned with the main three parties, UKIP is about the best protest vote you could make. The panicky left/centralist fear that they'll become any kind of meaningful force is massively misplaced. If anything they'll help the Labour cause next year. Quids point on an earlier thread was that it should surely be possible to have a rational conversation / analysis on the impact of immigration without the heat, emotion and racism stuff. From what I can see UKIP have tried to do that and I've never really equated them close to BNP's positioning. Despite the odd nutter in the ranks. But you cant really say that without getting shot down - especially on here. Anyways..I voted Greens last night and didn't notice the ethnicity or otherwise of the polling station team.

    Brockley?

I've just been living there for 3 weeks. Its really convenient for getting into town. The station is great with the overground and Southern trains are only 2 stops from London Bridge. They do seem busier than the ED line in though. Agree there are some great period houses and flats on tree lined streets that are much larger than anything you'll find in East Dulwich. Walk up steps. Like a NY brownstone. Main downside? Lack of a decent high street. Lots of cheap takeaways, nail bars but only 1-2 decent places you'd want to eat in, The Gantry being one.

    Homebuyer Hell

Four grand to fix things on average? I'd be more than happy with that. Especially on a purchase that in London has an average ticket price of ?260k. I understand how the "news" game works though...
  8. I rate thisismoney for content but this story is a load of lazy old bollocks. AS anyone who's lived here for longe than 3 years knows it gentrified ages ago. Anyone who's lucky enough to own has seen their London home value rise substantially in past 3 years....not because of wide floorboards and exposed brickwork but down to one of the most inflated bubbles since the South Sea crisis. Whilst its not a bad place to buy a home, smugly patting yourself on the back for being some kind of wise investment genius is just naive and stupid. See all 47 pages on the property thread if you want more. Or just shoot yourself in the head for similar effect.
  9. It might be easier just to enfranchise yourself and buy the freehold first- especially if downstairs is private leasehold also. Then you can do what you want within planning laws. Rough guide suggests freehold on a two story victorian property is approx 8-20K if in SE22 postcode. A good lawyer with experience in that space could help.
  10. Honest question: Is this story real? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27371266 Do your best...but be kind....
  11. Hi Gill in Bath. Yes I eventually solved it. Douglas meadow foam? Interesting but I'm guessing those eggs don't come with a Tesco date stamp. I asked around and it seems there is a bonkers middle aged woman nearby who feeds foxes fresh raw hens eggs. Foxes know it's a major protein hit and so look for a larder to bury them for when times get hard. Whatever you think about foxes, feeding wild animals is generally wrong. Canadians don't toss out burgers to feed the bears, nor does anyone with their marbles leave out cereal for the rats. I just figured this lady was lonely or mad or perhaps just misguided. This being the EDF , a million swivel eyed loons will no doubt ckme on to say I'm wrong.
  12. Scotland is not best known for well planned, forward thinking infrastructure projects. But this thread generally? 1/10 to quids and near zero for Burbages effort. Even Louisa's maggots are bigger and juicier.
  13. He probably makes up something similar for each drop off, tailored just in time for the tip. *points at The Nag's Head* "See that pub there? That used to be called The Burgess Park and Spandau Ballet played their first gig there" etc etc An amusing game with blow ins like me.....
  14. I am going to go large on a Costa Rica draw. They're almost on home turf.

    Max Clifford

Do you think they'll have a Yew Tree wing in Pentonville? With Bachman Turner Overdrive on loop....and comfy armchairs.....

    8 years for Clifford.
  18. Will there be an England WC predictor? Italy 2 England 1 Uruguay 2 England 0 England 1 Cost Rica 1
  19. Actually, watching that I'm reminded of the shame. We all looked like the Bay City Rollers.
  20. Boom tish...
  21. Belgium look like the value outsider for this one. But I don't ever recall a run up to a World Cup with such lack of enthusiasm all round...which is a pity.
  22. I dont know
  23. It's just the misplaced arrogance Jah. And before the joker ???? posts vintage footage Ally's Army '78 we learned our lesson and got on with being a tiny country playing with passion and occasionally above our means. We know our place but usually, to the amusement of many north of the border, England don't. This phenomena normally creates marginal value for the punter but even the bookies agree this time. England at evens to go out a the group stage: http://www.skybet.com/football/world-cup/event/15782033 *replaces maggot, casts*
  24. *sits back and watches rod tip*
  25. Still, at least you've realised you're crap this time and aren't expecting to win it for once....shades of 66 golden generation etc etc
