  1. After a tough week last week... Green is Blues by Al Green. His old Hi-Note stuff is sublime.
  2. And the Sonos controller apps for Android and Apple phones work a treat.

Mick - My set up is the Sonos ConnectAmp in the kitchen which talks to my home wireless router. I've then got two ceiling speakers wired into the Amp. Because of the shape of my kitchen and deasdspots I didn't want separate right/left channel speakers so I have two stereo speakers. i.e. each speaker has a left and right channel built in and a sub woofer. Not a purist set up by any means but as you dont have a fixed listening position it's the only way. If , lets say, you were getting an expensive kitchen extension then def get some speakers fitted and cables run at the same time.
  4. Draft house. Sold. New eatery coming soon.
  5. I've noticed that the people in Nunhead have funny eyes. That is all.
  6. The hipsters have started eating themselves.
  7. Ted Max seconded. And Snorky.
  8. The dream scenario would be to leave the UK in Jan and return in early May. I love May.
  9. What quids said. The general cheer from now til Christmas takes my mind off the first few months. The grimness that sets in towards the end of January is best offset by a winter sun holiday. A week in Feb somewhere warm and bright will recharge the batteries.

Can anyone recommend a tall building nearby? One with easy access to the roof would be great.

Er..the vegetarian debate has been done before too - to over 32 pages. Please, please don't start it again here.

Just remember. The views of The Fox are not necessarily the views of the individual behind the Fox. I'm guessing the man behind the fur knows he's plain wrong on this one. It's ok, he's allowed to hold his hand up. But Fox, you ARE a grump and the odd ray of sunshine from you at times would be most welcome.

I think the time to judge it will be when it opens properly. It hasn't yet.

Mind crushingly dull debates on the merits of The Guardians funding model, stance and reason for being can be had on other threads. I'm wanting live chickens, warm bread and a pea garden. Roof grown rosemary and crane lifted cow. And at least one pint of Bishops sock under ?4 to keep the old guard happy.
  17. Surely first on any entrepreneurs marketing list when opening in London is now "what's our policy for engaging with potential customers online?" Whether it's a popular local forum, twitter or other channels. You can't just ignore it and hope it will go away. It takes time to think about and to maintain. And so many people do it badly, or half heartedly and then give up when they get some flack. It's the new norm. Embrace it.

    Great Gigs

Anyone else off to BluesFest tonight at the Albert Hall? Or been this week? Some decent reviews coming out if you're a blues nut like me: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/live-music-reviews/10417524/Van-Morrison-Royal-Albert-Hall-review.html
  19. What about the quirkiest service? I miss the rather stiff 1950's service in the stationers, the guy in 24 Hour Digital Photos telling me that their fastest turnaround was 3 days, and The Drum running out of beer one night (a trip to Budgens ensued).
  20. Not the main section but surely worthy: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1206865,page=1 Poor Helen didn't really stand a chance given standard forum MO. Bless her.
  21. My Canadian missus goes large for it every year so I kind of play along. But I got told off for handing out unwrapped penny sweets (from Hope and Greenwood too!). Apparently they have to be wrapped sweets to be politically correct and "middle class safe". That means a massive fizzy snake fest for me tonight.

It's almost my local so I shall be giving it a go and as usual I want it to be successful. I don't believe "self sustainable" is anything more than a marketing bollocks though and it just bugs me. Growing a few of your own tomatoes/herbs onsite doesn't count. Part sustainable, some of our own produce grown onsite fair enough. But for a November opening I expect much of the menu above to come from the usual suppliers, local or otherwise. If the food isn't "darned good" they can always do a Flying Pig and say "We're actually a pub not a restaurant" to deflect the critics.
