I suspect that everyone is buying a little more (as we're stuck at home, we're all probably eating more at home too) and that this is mixed with a significant minority who are properly panic buying / stockpiling. I have spoken to people I know who have admitted to buying things they don't even need or want, just because they were panicking. I suspect there will be a significant spike in food waste over the coming weeks, which is really depressing.

Yeah, exercise equipment out of stock everywhere and prices going through the roof. Generally Amazon's algorithms are designed to profiteer in a crisis I notice. Surprised they're not getting more heat over this. If a traditional store massively marked up the prices of certain items in this situation they would be heavily criticised I suppose this is an advantage of not having a human make your pricing policy in the moment.

Just yesterday the PM said kids could go to the playground as long as they were asked to keep 2 metres from other children. Just a few weeks ago, he was on TV boasting about how he had been shaking the hands of Covid-19 patients. The messages from the very top have been extremely confused.

I went for an early morning cycle before coming back home to work today. Not sure whether this is a good idea, but assumed I would not come into contact with anyone. I was surprised going through Burgess park how many people were there and many of them not keeping a distance. I suspect we'll get a total lock down soon.

It's so, so depressing. This isn't a small minority of people. I thought better of my local community.

Anything the council can do to stop people creating food shortages through selfish hoarding would be welcome.

Everyone should be staying home. The government need to order pubs and restaurants to close so they can clean insurance. This is not being treated anywhere near seriously enough. The whole response has been too little and too slow

It's so depressing how people immediately resort to 'every man for himself' stockpiling BS. Some people would walk over their own granny just to get a packet of toilet roll (seriously, what is it about the toilet roll?). Everyone, please calm the fook down and stop selfishly hoarding.

I think it's more a case of 'we tried containment and it failed'.

Please can people stop stockpiling bog roll. I'm genuinely running low now and shelves are empty.

The 'herd immunity' strategy could kill around half a million people from what I understand.

Mind you, in some ways Coronavirus does provide Boris with a potential out. He may decide to extend the negotiations due to the 'exceptional circumstaces'. Assuming that he isn't as stupid as he looks and does actually want to reduce the amount of disruption and economic damage a no deal exit would cause.

A decision about whether or not to extend talks will be needed by June. The way things have gone so far (no real progress) suggests that without and extension, there will not be enough time to negotiate a comprehensive trade deal. All those people stockpiling, may as well get used to it imo. Come January there is going to be a lot of disruption.

It's difficult to have a serious conversation about the trade talks, as from what I can tell, there aren't any really. The UK appears to have rowed back from our commitments in the political declaration and are now pursuing a no deal, or at best a few small side deals. I'm not sure why Boris is doing this, but doesn't bode well from January next year. we may just be coming out of a coronavirus induced economic slump, only to impose economic sanctions on ourselves. It's all too crazy.

The loo roll thing is weird. When the food runs out, what good is ?200 worth of bog paper?
