  2. and delicious...
  3. If you buy a ticket and plan around it, then the train company should liable for your losses as a result of any cancellations. Not just the pro-rata cost of a season ticket. If you need to get a cab, in order to make an appointment, then they should pick up the cost. Trains would soon start running on time, if there were real and serious costs imposed. Personally, I think the trains should be bought back into public ownership, properly funded and run with the dual aims of providing good value for the taxpayer and a reliable service for commuters.
  4. This is one of the most ridiculous threads I've read in a long while.
  5. Yeah, I'm drinking Champagne for breakfast... just to show support like. Hic.
  6. The police should go and check them out practicing their wheelies etc at Bell Green and Crystal Palace.

  8. ?!?!?
  9. Talk to your boss. Explain your concerns, appeal for a replacement. Summarise in an email. Not much else you can do.
  10. 'levitates their Chihuahua'.... Surely some kind of euphemism?
  11. Louisa! You're back in the General Ed Issues section?

If you start down this route of reasoning, you quickly get to the 'I shouldn't pay for X, I don't use it' argument. in the end it leads to everyone just paying for the things they need, i.e. it undermines the whole idea of universal, public services. Start means testing everything and you undermine support for the system, services suffer and the less affluent end up being a lot worse off.

  14. It's the Godwin's Law of EDF.
  15. The cyclist, if they jumped a light.
  16. It just boring. So much on this forum gets turned into a debate about class. Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for a thread discussing gentrification, inequality, class and politics, but this one was about a loud garden party (and plenty of others are about lot's of other things, but get similarly diverted).
  17. I strongly believe in the power of markets, competition and incentives, but it totally dogmatic to think that it is appropriate in all and every case to bring in the private sector. To say that there is only one way is the definition of dogma.
  18. It is not efficient to take a natural monopoly, pour in public money and allow some of that to then be paid out to shareholders. 2+2 does of course equal 4, but in privatisation, your taking 2+2-1 and trying top get to 4. As we have seen, it deosn't work.
  19. Is she OK? Sounds like she may have some mental health issues
  20. FFS - why always a class thing. If you're acting in a way that regularly and significantly impinges on those around you in a negative way, you're being inconsiderate. Whether you live on an estate, or drive an estate.

I'm kind of surprised by that. I think it's quite unusual for Train franchises, but obviously not unique.
