  1. I'm glad there is another thread on this. The last one tailed off so quickly, it just left so much to still be discussed.
  2. Travel in SE London has become ridiculously difficult of late, especially at weekends. The roads are being dug up everywhere, there's no tube and the trains rarely seem to be running. It's totally unacceptable. Must admit, it's the one thing which makes me consider moving out of the area.
  3. I honestly have no idea who anonymous are (they are after all, anonymous). I imagine it's a fairly disparate, diverse and rag bag group though.

Surely that was meant to be a joke / tongue in cheek, no?
  5. The way that media and entertainment has changed has had a big impact on shared experience, values - regardless of your background. Two people could be born in the same street and have little in the way of a common culture. We all used to watch one of maybe two or three TV programmes which were on offer of a Saturday night for example. We all used to know who was no.1 in the music charts. There was only so much cultural product available and we all to a greater or lesser extent, shared similar reference points. Music, TV, film, Literature and art are now endlessly available and from all over the world. There is so much information, entertainment and culture from which you can chose.
  6. it all sounds a little unhealthy to me.
  7. To answer the subject of the post. There are clearly things which genuinely offend us, often quite rightly - but there has definitely been an increase in knee-jerk 'outrage', encouraged by angry mob social media.

  9. originally the plan was to demolish the shopping centre and extend a pedestrianised Walworth Road across the plot to the northern roundabout, which would be transformed into a public square. In this context (a pedestrianised shopping street and public square) the whole thing made sense. Unfortunately the shopping centre now stays and the peninsula will be little more than a windswept smog filled non-place.
  10. It's a ridiculous sum of money. We seem to have learnt nothing from the credit crunch.

  12. Great shots
  13. So after the charges are introduced, what happens to stuff that's fly tipped? If you report things just left on the street will they be picked up for free? I do wonder what will happen?
  14. Meanwhile anyone caught driving at 25mph on Sydenham Hill will feel the full force of the law.

Yes, the petrol bomb thing sounds extremely dubious to me. That said, if you're going to organise a weekend long rave (which was the original intention), there are better places to locate it than in a densely populated, residential area of central london. Really what did the organisers think was going to happen? It was always going to be shut down

Of course it wasn't Amazon who defrauded me, but an individual using their platform. Amazon refunded me, so in fact it was Amazon ultimately who were defrauded. They decide not to pursue these cases, even were they have all the information necessary to catch the perpetrators, which I disapprove of. Amazon are not the most community minded of companies of course.
  17. Peckham can be a bit rough. Surely this isn't a surprise to anyone?

    So....

I hate the rising inflection at the end of sentences - previously the domain of Australians, but now seemingly ubiquitous. Even my 6 year old does it. So annoying.
  19. I was defrauded by Amazon. I called and managed to get everything sorted, but what I found galling is that they had the name and address of the perpetrator and refused to file a report with the police. They said it just want't worth their effort, that they write down such losses.
  20. I've been with an online bank since around 2000 and I can't think of a time when I've set foot inside a bank since. Whilst I'm sure there are many good reasons to visit a physical branch, for the majority of people they do seem a little redundant.
  21. They are turning the northern roundabout into a peninsular: https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/elephant-and-castle
