Fair enough, you did a good job! Like I say, it's pretty careless language on Corbyn's part. > The most worrying thing about Corbyn I've read is > his intention to print money to finance the state. > That is, frankly, just terrifying. That said, there is an argument that QE could have been directed in different ways to stimulate the 'real economy' more effectively following the crash.
  10. I completely understand your frustration first mate and I wasn't being critical, just stating my perspective on it.
  11. I don't believe in conspiracies. I would be very surprised if this is a deliberate step towards introducing a CPZ (that's not to say that it may not lead in that direction eventually). Councillors of course want to improve the quality of life for their constituents and it's easy to jump to the support of what on the face of it, seems like a positive campaign to calm traffic and increase road safety. The problem is that it's not part of any joined up strategy. It's a campaign started by a small group, with a vested interest in the outcome. Whilst those on MG are going to be focused on what they want for their road, they are unlikely to be thinking about the knock on consequences. This is were I would hope we could rely on the council / Councillors to be looking at the bigger picture. I don't drive down MG (in fact I rarely drive at all in London), but I am worried about how this 'problem' has been identified, the precedent it sets for other streets who may well want the same and the apparent lack of strategic oversight.

And some of those who haven't voted before, or have stopped voting (of which there are a lot). Labour are currently attracting huge numbers of new members, lot's of them young voters.
  13. Yes, well said David_carnell.
  14. That Kinsdale Rd mural looks great.
  15. Agree Bikylilyput. It's really sad that Kid's Company has closed. There are a lot of kids who saw it as a lifeline.
  16. 'The kids' are maybe doing something different than their parents did. Perhaps going to different places too.
  17. Thanks Loz. I think that's a bit of a careless use of word on Corbyn's part, but I think it's pretty clear when read in context that he isn't talking about a planned economy in the sense of a centrally controlled communist state (as some have suggested, rather dramatically). He says in the next sentence that '....the strongest lesson to learn from all of this is the need for greater unionisation in the private sector'. If you read what he has said more recently regarding the economy, I don't think any of it could be portrayed as 'extremism' albiet that one may disagree. It helps no one to paint him as dangerous communist, it's clearly ridiculous. The press did the same with Brown and 'Red Ed' and it just brings down the level of debate IMO. Basically, anyone who believes that there may possibly be a role for state ownership / management of some essential services seems to be considered looney, or dogged. Thinking that there is no one solution for all problems (lightly regulated market), is the exact opposite of dogged- it's believing in examining all possible options and deciding on which is likely to best deliver the outcomes we might want.

Where is that on his website Loz? I'm not suggesting it's not there I just can't find it. That does sound extreme and slightly out of kilter with other thing I've heard him say on the economy, so I would be interested to see it in context.
  19. James you asked me at what point I would consider traffic levels high enough to merit closing a street. I would like to know what your answer to this is? Does Crystal Palace Road or Whately Road qualify yet? Once Melbourne Grove is closed, will the displaced traffic taking to Townley push that road over the threshold too? is there a long term vision, any kind of strategy, or do we just close one Road at a time as we move the 'problem' around.
  20. So you are calling for hundreds of roads to be closed, or just this one Wulfhound?

Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > rahrahrah Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Since when does Corbyn not believe in a market > economy. 22. James- my road is irrelevant. I simply used it to illustrate a point, that if you believe that cars shouldn't be used except for access, then any set of residents could potentially have an argument for putting up barriers. Using terms such as rat runs, and trying to portray the vested interest of residents ascommunity mindedness is not convincing. I don't blame residents for prefering ro live on a quiet, traffic free road, the problem is who wouldn't and where does that stop. The council should be taking a wider view.
  23. Since when does Corbyn not believe in a market economy. What tosh.
  24. That depends on where you consider the centre ground to be.
  25. Have I missed something. IS there a link between FHR surgery and this incident?
