  1. .... made worse by the fact that there is acute need for investment in 'real' transport infrastructure, not least in SE London.
  2. It was funded from the rail services budget, despite the fact that many argued that it was actually a tourist attraction and not a viable piece of transport infrastructure. Current figures bear out this claim - indicating that there are zero regular commuters using the 'dangleway' (and actually very few tourists). This sums it up: http://853blog.com/2014/12/16/emirates-air-line-cable-car-now-has-no-regular-commuters/ Boris is doing the same with the Garden Bridge - funding another vanity project by raiding the transport budget. It's pretty out of order in my view, but he seems to be able to do these things with impunity.
  3. The whole 'Boris' bus thing is a total folly. They have cost a fortune and their 'USP' - the 'hop on, hop off' back door is closed nearly all of the time. In almost every other respect they perform less favorably to the standard double decker. Boris just can't help raiding the transport budget to fund his little vanity projects (e.g. the Emirates 'Dangleway' the Garden Bridge etc.). I really wish he would be held to account.
  4. oooh, nice pic.
  5. Dulwich Park has suffered from the Thames Water works in my opinion. Many of the views are now interrupted by the new undulations. Peckham Rye is great. Definitely my favourite.
  6. Couldn't agree more, it's an amazing space and is really well cared for.
  7. I think it's lovely that everyone is feeling so gay today.
  8. I joined up as soon as possible, as there was no way I wasn't going to end up being a member when it's 5 minutes from my front door and it was never going to be any cheaper. I can see how some of more silly 'statusy' stuff around getting your name on the wall etc could be considered a bit cringey, but that aside, it was a no brainer to take the 'early bird deal'. Anyway, it's a great cinema, loads of leg room, which as a lanky fooker, is great for me.
  9. Great Thread :-)
  10. 'Eastenders turned me Gay' - I can see it on the front of Now magazine.
  11. A quick Google search gives the following definition... "The avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against". Which could probably be simplified to "not being a bully". Sounds OK.
  12. I would say 'political correctness' is a very positive thing. Of course it depends on what you mean by the term though. For a lot of the 'PC gone mad' brigade, it seems to have been confused with extreme(largely imagined) Health and Safety restrictions.
  13. The fortunes of even the best/worst school can turn around massively over 5 years.
  14. I don't watch the soaps, what do you mean by 'gay story lines'? Do you mean that there are too many gay characters.... Are you worried about realism? What's the watershed got to do with it?
  15. Thanks fonread - I've not heard of the rake before.

  17. It is great to have a local cinema. Really chuffed.
  18. I used to run Bellenden Road, up the surrey canal path through Bermondsey Spa to the river at Shad Thames, over Tower Bridge, St Catherine's docks and onto the Regents Canal. You could follow the canal path as long as you like, up to Regents park, or loop back at Victoria Park.
  19. The point is that Peckham is going to change, is already changing, along with all of inner London. I think the results will be better if there are concerned citizens (even if they're not entirely representative of all the community) trying to steer the changes, than if it's just left entirely to commercial developers. At least with Peckham Vision there is an organisation that is trying to influence the changes and (as best they can), to reflect and balance some of the interests of local people.
  20. I never thought Louisa was aggressive as such. I did think that the posts were pretty tedious and repetitive though. That said, I'm sorry she felt the need to leave the forum.

I've met some pretty dull squatters, anarchists and crusties in my time.
  22. Areas change.. Brixton was once a pretty upmarket neighbourhood, then it wasn't, now it's kind of mixed and becoming more affluent. I don't like the idea of protesting about people moving into your neighbourhood, because they're different to you.

Otherwise they look really bad.
