  1. Started in Lambeth, pays tax in the UK. Best of the big chains IMO. That said - there are a lot of independents round here that serve far superior brews with more 'soul'.
  2. I'm actually in favour of 20, but I'd like to see a commitment to actually enforcing it - or better, removing the small number of really dangerous individuals who massively flout the current limit, or generally drive with little or no regard for others safety. The problem is that all we get is speed bumps, signs and paint.
  3. This is really a moot point. There will be no enforcement and it will have no impact whatsoever on the dick that comes down my road in his van at around 50.

    Flies

I always new these as 'beer flies', but the same thing.
  5. I took park in Gin-uary. It's a bit like dry January, except it involves drinking plenty of dry gin, rather than nothing. Haven't lost any weight.

  7. On the subject of bubbly, I recommend Ridgeview (based just outside Brighton): http://www.ridgeview.co.uk/ They do a blanc de blancs (Grosvenor?) which is good value.

True - but if it's a special occasion I would much rather a decent white Burgundy than an average bottle of Champagne.
  9. Typical North Londoners. You wouldn't get that kind of thing on the right side of the river.
  10. Talking Burgundy- pretty much any bottle of Meursault will do me for a special occasion.
  11. Placing pasta into water and waiting for 3 minutes is tough. How about 'Pasta Pigro'?
  12. An unintelligible post about POLICE OP BIG WING DAY!!! is silly and fails to convey what the police have actually been doing. That was my point. It would be better to say - "we've been doing some really good work recently in the community - speaking to the parents of badly behaved kids and helping to significantly cut down on levels of anti social behaviour."

Yeah, of course, so why the silly name.
  14. What is the price per square foot for sheds?
  15. Its a shed!
  16. Operation Big Wing Day, does sound a bit silly though. Sounds like it's just, 'talking to the parents of some badly behaved kids' - or 'doing the job of a community policeman'
  17. It's a shed!

  19. Frankly, even if they are hanging around in the stair wells drinking, I can see how residents may not like it. I know it's difficult for kids to find places to go, but the stair well of a block of flats doesn't seem a particularly smart choice.

  21. :-)
  22. Nikki66 - I feel for you and your family, it must be really difficult to come to terms with something like this. Thoughts are with you.
  23. @Otta - yeah, you're right, it is *mainly* just people having a laugh, but then I remember growing up in a small town where looking a bit different would get you a hard time. Never understood why people cared how others choose to look / live - so perhaps I do have a bit of a humour deficit with this kind of thing. Just reminds me of the kind of parochialism to which London (to my young mind) represented an escape.
  24. Eh? Who?
  25. I couldn't care less how somebody chooses to dress. If pushed to have an opinion on it, I probably prefer to see people taking risks with how they look, having fun with clothes and being creative. I know...Inevitably people will say "but they're all the same, they're clones", but for a group of people to be different enough as to be clearly identifiable as such, they clearly aren't. It also assumes that those levelling the criticism aren't a like themselves, when quite clearly, by being 'other', they are. Basically, what I'm trying to say (perhaps not very eloquently), is why disparage people for the way they dress? Especially, if they're doing it in a thoughtful, joyful manner (even perhaps with a little irony)?
