  1. The first bit of your post (below), I think is broadly true. Although this could change with the new cinema coming. May be able to sustain a few more bars (or at least the ones already here). Adventure bar was always just bad though. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ED has grown in confidence as a predominantly > family orientated area. 2. I'm actually amazed that Adventure Bar lasted as long as it did.
  3. Louisa - what's this obsession with Space NK? I've only ever heard of it through your posts. Adventure Bar was awful. DuncanW description is spot on. If Tsunami opened there I would be very happy indeed.
  4. M&S Simply food would make more sense for the station development imo. Then Iceland could become the mythical Waitrose.
  5. Thanks for the summary. All sounds fairly reasonable on the face of it.
  6. No argument with that Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Still a good > business model, it brings the punters through the > doors. > > Louisa.
  7. I think most ED residents would be happy to say Nunhead is better if it makes them feel good
  8. Louisa - stick the sweets up your jumper as if pregnant and on 'delivery' you meet the true definition of 'yummy mummy'.
  9. You can conceal a lot more illicit popcorn in a bugaboo than a traditional buggy.
  10. Picturehouse are cheaper than the Odeon in Surrey Quays. Peckhamplex is notably cheaper than anywhere else - that is it selling point and you would probably complain if Picturehouse went after Peckhamplex on price I suspect. As it is, it's competing on different terms which means more choice.
  11. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's surely the principle of the matter? What's the principle involved here?
  12. If you prefer what Peckhamplex does, you can go there instead. It's all good. I suspect I will visit both on different occasions and for different reasons. Still very excited about Picturehouse opening.
  13. You can read what they're offering (admittedly, this is to some extent marketing spiel) here: http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/cinema/East_Dulwich_Picturehouse Basically a diverse range of films and live events. Big comfy seats and a decent cafe/bar.
  14. By the way, before anyone kicks off about 'Guardianistas', the eponymous paper is a big fan of PeckhamPlex http://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2013/jun/11/cine-files-peckhamplex
  15. I don't. We've got a no frills cinema offering cheap tickets in Peckham. I want one which offers a greater range of events, nicer surroundings, a good cafe / bar and I don't mind paying a little more for it frankly. I'm not doing down PeckhamPlex, but it's a different offering - which is good as it gives us more choice locally.

  17. I sympathise with some of the reservations about ?street art?, how it?s been co-opted, sanitised and commercialised (and become arguably, just a bit naff). All that said, it?s better than advertising, or just a plain hoarding. The new cinema can only be a good thing for the area IMO. At the very least, you may feel indifferent, but I don?t get the actual anger that some posters seem to be venting. I wonder how much it really has to do with street art or the cinema at all.
  18. My EDF bingo card is almost full. So far I have 'middle class' 'Guardian' and 'trendies'. I just need 'yummy mummies' to get a full house.
  19. Not sure that street art scene is anything to do with 'hippies'
  20. @VicCraven - thanks for the updates and for sharing your excitement at the new cinema.
  21. Has anyone got a picture of the hoardings they can post?
  22. Very excited. It's going to be great to have a cinema just round the corner.
