Spot on RahRah. Rocks whatever is posted broadly in support of tackling car culture you post you same long winded arguments and your talk about pro LTN lobbies is just annoying. So to repeat myself. We've had a pro car culture in the UK for 60 years or so. This brought greater mobility for the masses which is a good thing. But for most in our lovely city this is an expensive indulgence, not a necessity. And most of us are able bodied and most of us don't need a car just in case we needed to be rushed to hospital. So with the lack of central government action in terms of fiscal policy, including road user charging, the lack of central government messaging, education including health benefits, nudge, economics, the impact on air quality, climate change, and good citizenship are not delivering change some local authorities are taking bolder (or blunter depending on your perspective) action. Please accept that less motoring, and where cars are kept smarter motoring, is a necessity

I've gone to a place on the Old Kent Road for many years, not a lot of on-line profile (Google ratings are mixed), but I am happy and need to get a new build (I should have done this before Covid...) I'll hopefully pop down in the week to get some prices etc. They built my current PC well over ten years ago, they've cleaned it (electronically and physically) over the years but its on its last legs... Still prefer to sit at a desk rather than tablet/phone/and the laptop I am on at the mo I'll probably spend about £500 keeping my screen and aged keyboard.

Become a member of the club, and you may get tickets in future. Or pay a silly amount of money on a fan to fan resale site. Better would be to support a local team, no problems getting tickets for Millwall, more difficult Palace and great non-league teams Dulwich Hamlet and Peckham Town. As they will know!

I understand that many economists consider that austerity was wrong as opposed to spending /borrowing our way out of that financial crisis, and that Brown should be seen as one of the saviours of the international financial system. But our generally right if centre media portray it differently. A decade of static wages in our public sector, made more acute by rising private sector wages, haa resulted in the current situation Bur again we should be looking at the last 12 years not the 13 before or speculate on the world post 2024. Let's face it the Tories have been awful.

Just to add on physical activities the wider area is good eg kids' football, park runs and the like Have a look at the What's On section of this site to get a good idea including cultural activities, much will be family friendly -

Lots of advice on commuting; I hope you consider cycling both for work, and family. We have great routes into central London, 98 percent of my commuting is by bike and I also used this to ferry young children to child minders. Some of the local schools are very pro bike. Electrically assisted small people carriers are now all the rage in the area. -
Labour hasn't been in power for over 12 years so bit unfair to turn on Labour, Cat. Particularly shocking was Osborne's unecessary programme of austerity, a major factor in the current unrest about public sector salaries.

I'm glad we didn't worry about catchment areas when we moved before having kids. It all managed to work out OK. The whole selecting schools/location just causes so many issues. I love to quote a radio 4 programme, "the middle class worry most about schools yet have the least to worry" I know many here won't agree but I've already had it etched onto my gravestone 😊 -

In deed. Gentrification is a whole thread of its own. I've commented in the past about how rough Lordship Lane used to be. Areas that I decided not to live in, Catford, Brockley, Annerley, Penge, Nunhead are very up and coming. South Norwood still has a way to go! Mainly it's about money, ie affordability of the rented and privately owned sectors. I do think that there is the danger over-development and our area of SE London is constantly full of builders with the accompanying traffic disruption and noise. Worse still foundations being affected as subterranean developments become more common. Back to thread, Forest Hill has benefited from housing aimed at younger people. Honor Oak is unrecognisable from the ragbag of shops 15 years ago and includes the wonderful Vaidas bike shop as well as the pretentious pizzeria. Sadly the tapas place has gone. Downside of HOP is people driving out of borough to park and use the station as it is in Zone 3. Probably a case for the much despised CPZ. That's not for this forum! -
heartblock post Long day at work is my only excuse...I was going to delete but then thought it was quite funny in a crazed sort of way. Sorry everyone. Don't apologise, I found it very entertaining and some light relief from other long winded/obsessive posts that I can no longer be bothered replying too. I've not added anything to the debate but let's face it, we are poles apart. Most of you are angry, some will resist anything seen to be an attack on the right to drive when you like, where you like, how you like, whereas a few of us support curbs on motoring, even the relatively blunt tools. I'm off to bother the BBC and government about sustainable travel and behaviour change but there again I am on the side of the angel's.

As per others Forest Hill and Honor Oak Park worth looking at, you will get more for your money and the Overground transformed public transport links. Pretty close to the Dulwiches, Sydenham Hill, lovely parks etc. Personal downside is that gentrification has gone too far, and demographics very much changed in last ten years or so. Can be applied to many other nearby areas - from the perspective of someone who moved here donkeys years ago when the area was relatively unknown and cheap -
Good thing that they are your royal family as well as ours. And an apt time now neighbours (the Sullivan's, Prisoner, Home and Away etc) has ended Edited: Google has listed 37 Australian soap operas. And of course reality TV too. An ideal home for the Sussex's

Nice post, with rational people like you around I'm happy to stay in Blighty and will postpone my move to North Korea! Cheers ☺️
-
The early Blair government was pro public transport. The 2000 fuel protests changed all that. A fact. Also a fact that since then governments of all sides don't want to upset motorists.
-
What mind altering substances are you taking? Even by the standards of this thread that is a weird post 🤔
-
?? I'm talking about entitled motorists which is a sociatal issue ie for our government. The early Blair government was prepared to do this, but after the unholy alliance of farmers and hauliers, the 2000 fuel protests, no government has prepared to take this on. I can talk hearts and minds, but I could also quote Not the Nine o'clock News, grab them by the goolies, twist them right off... Anyway, some meaty discussion
-
The reason for this is selfish drivers. The response may be disproportionate but it's due to drivers. I don't doubt that you are just as angry at selfish drivers but our starting point is that rather than Southwark Council. As said my view is national government needs to change hearts and minds
-
Just strengthens my views that we need to be a secular republic
-
I expect Southwark and GLA are pretty big on sustainable school travel. Some of the schools too eg Bessemer Grange and Ivydale. Did my bit as a parent to discourage unsociable parking. Some parents are so resistive. Feel it is worse in the private schools but know that parents can be even more entitled.

Post Office has been doing some of this for some time -
Oh dear. Makes you think about moving to North Korea. Property will be cheaper there too. For those who are allowed to own it. A little perspective is called for.
-
But rather than dredge up your views about Southwark what about selfish drivers/parents? There are plenty in SE22 And as the title is poorly descriptive and I don't click on links with no explanation of why I need to, can someone tell me a bit more eg where this is?
-
Perhaps have a thread about selfish parents who park irresponsibly - I can sleep soundly, can we all? If course the current government doesn't want to demonise motorists, as it their God given right to not give a fig about others. Disclaimer this is all my own work and not plagiarised from LCC, the council etc
