Barclays Local at The Lordship Lane Surgery
malumbu replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh it gets better, the QR code leads me to this: https://events.uk.barclays/local/ But on a search using my post code the nearest place is Mitcham at over 7 miles rather than Lordship lane at less than a mile. The gent told me to go to my local branch, but with the queues I'm not going to Peckham. I tried Westmister a couple of weeks ago where I used to bank a few times a year pre Covid, but they had moved a couple of working days before. Note to myself - get a life -
Barclays Local at The Lordship Lane Surgery

Now I am not the one to whinge on this site (apart from the irrational thread on the Lounge which we know is a bit of a laff) but couldn't find anything on line - lots on the closed branch. So I went down - receptionists at the surgery very helpful. Up to the third floor, a gent popped out to tell me that I needed an appointment - how I said when you don't have any details on line. I suppose after 22 year of using Google, and before that Altvista and Lycos, I'm not very good at usin the WWW (world wide web for anyone under 40). They gave me a card but it has no contact details although there is a QR code. I'll share more later. And may complain to Barclays if I can be assed, -
Professional advice on humane trapping and releasing https://www.clearfirstpestcontrol.co.uk/news/how-to-humanely-capture-mice-and-rats/ "You should release it away from your home, but in a safe environment. Try to find a wooded area at least a mile away from your property and release it with a bit of food. That way you can be sure you’ve dealt with your pest in the most humane way possible." Peta's advice on living in harmony with mice and rats (US site) https://www.peta.org/issues/wildlife/living-harmony-wildlife/house-mice/ Captured mice and rats can be kept calm by placing a towel over the trap. Release them within 100 yards of where they were trapped. (Rodents can also be humanely euthanized by a veterinarian or at a local animal shelter.) Releasing a mouse or rat into a strange area will almost surely result in the animal’s death because relocated animals don’t know where to find adequate food, water, or shelter and often become weak and succumb to predation or foreign parasites or disease against which they lack a natural immunity. I like the bit of euthanising! I've had to do that to a grey squirrel... It's the Ramones method unless you own a shotgun.

Humane traps. Used them for years on and off. Release them a couple of miles away. Please don't use other means, leave pest control for the squirrels

The Express will fall in love with H and M. The Mail will have a campaign to welcome asylum seekers and crowd fund speedier assessment of applications The Torygraph will acknowledge the odd down side about Brexit The Guardian will have articles about people toughening up rather than the whole world being against them Clarkson writing in the sun will talk about his love of vegetarians, liberals and hippies. The FA will petition FIFA to have human rights as a deciding factor in awarding World Cups Influencers in the Gulf will lose any mass appeal and people will return to traditional sources of information My crazy conspiracy theory friends and neighbours will acknowledge that the world is a sphere, Americans did land on the moon and Covid was for real And the world would be abetter place

Par boil then fry with olive oil, caraway seeds and honey. Go on, you know you want to!

Smug cyclists. Oh sorry that is the ED part of the forum. Happy Xmas all

Pleased that so many boroughs have adopted 20 mph, shame it isn't universal on all metropolitan roads (excepting trunk or whatever they are called). There are better things that you can do to improve bus times. Interestingly since the reopening of Rye lane car less double line parking, that used to infuriate me due to the impact on buses.

Relatively trivial compared to builders dumping, piles of tyres, whole black bags of domestic waste etc. Happens round here but go out into the country lanes beyond Bromley..... Doesn't make it right if course. But your post echoes those elsewhere with yet another tirade about cyclists. As for me? What about those people who sleep on beds. Get a new mattress and what do they do with their old one? Dump it on the street. Typical of those selfish bed users!

He loves publicity whether good and bad and has a high profile and therefore will get a response. I'm not interested in the whole royal circus and therefore haven't taken notice although I did see from shopping that the Clarkson backlash was front page in the Star (I was shopping and just looked, honnest). If it is hate crime then the authorities should get involved. Personally a recent former PM said provocative things that were borderline racist and never got taken to task for this. Don't start me on Trump. Sadly we live in this new world where many across the world thrive on this sort of thing. Can't turn the clock back but feel the world is much more divided than say ten years ago.

Anyone taken a builder to the small claims court?
malumbu replied to alice's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Be realistic about how much time and effort you are prepared to put in. I've gone through this route a few times, both on individuals and companies. I've had successful judgments but only got the money back maybe half the time. Enforcement can be time consuming and expensive eg using private detectives to serve notice, or debt recovery companies. That said any reasonable company or individual will not want a CCJ against them. With so much we buy, it is 'buyer aware', although on line reviews have helped. I think I am a savvy consumer but have been 'had' a few times. Companies may be in trade associations which provide complaint procedures and dispute resolution. My one attempt through the Federation of Master Builders was not successful. That is not to say that it would work with others. Another bit of advice is be polite, and where necessary concilitatory. "I am sure that there is a solution, and that neither of us want this taken further etc" Where the temptation will be to be more confrontational - pay up or else - which I would have been guilty of in the past -
I appear to be discussing this with myself. A shame that this was a great place for broader discussion but now very quiet. I see that Cruella has got her way and can now send asylum seekers to Rwanda for processing. Sounds like a solution from another age.

Heads up zipvan PCN for travel through rotherhithe tunnel
malumbu replied to Tibbytubs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Vans are designed to carry more than cars and hence subject to greater controls on weight. My second 'favourite' paper the Express (is there much point to this rag?) carried an article about the weight limit. The adjudicator concluded that the signage was legal but could be made clearer. There are also other articles about motorists being fined, so if you feel angry about this then this is the paper for you. Like most nowadays I take these things philosophically and have learned long ago to check signage. https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1245636/tfl-transport-for-london-rotherhithe-tunnel-fines-charge-sign -

Give it some time and then share your views rather than jumping to conclusions. If you are worried about germs then don't use public transport, go to entertainment events, work in an office, go to the pub etc etc. -
Ughhhh I'll obviously recycle this joke ☺️

Any traffic offence can be annoying. I've had my fair share. But in talking about rip off TfL you've lost all my sympathy. Got any issues with their signage or policies take it up with them, the Mayor, your MP or councillor. -
All credit to the trawler that saved many lives yesterday and that they are only commenting on how proud they were in doing this. A quick look on line - why do people come to UK rather than stay in the continent? Language Family members already here Horrific conditions for some sleeping rough in Northern France Useful report on statistics https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn01403/ 6 % of immigrants are asylum seekers Add to this asylum applications far larger in France than UK So what does our government do? Make it much harder to apply for asylum outside of the UK leading to desparate people paying to come over in flimsy dinghies? Hopefully there will be a turning point in public opinion resulting in a more humanitarian approach. I hope I've got my facts and views right, interested to hear from others

Off topic but I will support any government that will nationalise water supply. It's probably worse than any other of the privitised sectors.

Talking rabbit goes into a bar and orders a drink and asks about food. We have cheese toaties, ham toasties, and ham and cheese toasties. Lovely replies the rabbit. I'll have a cheese toatie. Next day the rabbit goes in and orders a ham toastie. And the day after a ham and cheese toastie. A few weeks later, the rabbit has not returned. Anyone know what happened to that talking rabbit asks the barman/lady? A local replies that sadly the rabbit has died. Oh that's a shame says the barman, of what? "Mixin m' toasties" Worth a long build up and practicing the punchline

Reminds me of foraging mushrooms in woods, such as Epping Forest. Now done on an industrial scale to supply specialist delis and the like https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/mushroom-picking-london-fines-epping-b1826135.html

Then why not have a thread on Iran. I wont be signing the petition as it is unlikely to make a difference. I'd start with lobbying my MP, getting involved with relevant organisations such as amnesty and those more specific to Iran https://www.amnesty.org/en/petition/end-the-protest-bloodshed-in-iran/

The report suggests that Brexit is responsible for considerable food cost inflation, tell it as it is.

Probably redwings, occasionally see one in the garden and others on this site report flocks in Dulwich Park.

Strange, the programmes I watch still have stair lifts and incontinence pads in the ad break
