  1. It's theft, unless you have the permission from the land owner. I don't need a sign to know that.
  2. Good to see something more definite rather than just sitting back and waiting for Tories to fail. They've been moving civil servants out of the SE for getting on for 50 years - in particular processing applications, benefit etc. Just feels a bit of a popularist announcement. More of a struggle for those closer to ministers - previous governments of both colours have promised to do this, some failed dramatically, a good review up to the last Labour government https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN02588/SN02588.pdf Ultimately I expect decisions will be pragmatic - who has to be close to Westminister/Whitehall, (some staff have been moved out to Croydon which didn't count as London in earlier programmes) and particularly with the shrinking of the central London estate, which was happening before Covid, how much function can be done away from SW1.
  3. I've never liked dried vine fruits (raisins, sultanas, currants), I can stomach small amounts if in food and not too obvious, larger amounts would make me wretch. Other foods I hated as a kid I've long since come round to such a custard and dessicated coconut. So many Xmas events where mince pies get dolled out. Why is there rarely an alternative? And Xmas pie/pud. Move on three months and it is damned hot cross buns. Is there any hope for me?!

    Air fryer

Cutting to the chase it is cheaper to use the air frier, as was the established view. Glad we bought ours.
  5. No, I want you to explain in your post, then I may read the attachment. It could be spam. Better still put what it is about in the subject box. You may even get people engaging rather than me asking you to say why we need to sign
  6. Just tried cycle.travel, and also TfL and none of the routes match mine! The latter takes you to Vauxhall Bridge, and the quietest route via South Lambeth road going to the west of Brixton. Cycle.travel very convoluted and includes Crystal Palace Road which is horridly congested during the school runs. But I think this is very much what works best for you.
  7. We had a few resident wood pigeons, which were a bit of a pest, eating grass seed that I sowed and crapping in the bird bath. Sadly feral pigeons took their place, so in retrospect I now value them, and miss them even if I did need to clear the bird bath out frequently. Current order of pests, feral pigeons, with squirels and green squawky things in equal second place, When food runs short the order will change.
  8. Where you from? Dartmoor on the run Why do you speak that way? We're from Catford (ain't we eh?)
  9. To argue with myself was Johnson any better in some of the terms that he, very knowingly, used to describe some non-white/non-Christian communities, and dare I say the late Duke of Edinburgh
  10. Clearly it was wrong. Society rightly moves on, we no longer use the word coloured, or collect gollywogs. In the 1970s most in wouldn't know that this was offensive. We know now. There are better ways to ask about heritage, rather than where are you from. Better subjects to debate PC etc Cat.
  11. Thought I'd posted the biggest road safety issue on Rye Lane is delivery riders on e bikes (virtually all illegal) and e scooters, due to the speed and lack of training. The Lime Bike rider took the biscuit this morning - several cyclists riding in the top part of Rye Lane. Young chap was riding fast, all over the shop (I sussed out he was probably on his phone), At one point no handed as he took a call, then weaving out of the way of a bus. He turned into traffic on Peckham Road, still on his phone. Clearly very good awareness of what was in front of him (not behind), but pretty hazardous. This is not a rant against Lime bikes or cyclists, just an example of extreme behaviour that other road users, including pedestrians, need to be aware of.

My friend asked me for a double entendre, so I game her/him one

    Jokes

Guy goes to the doctors. Doctor doctor, I feel like a pais of curtains. Doctor: "Pull yourself together man" Guy goes into the doctors. Doctor doctor, I've got dreadful flatulance. Doctor grabs a long pole with a hook on the end. Guy "Oh my word what are you going to do to me" Doctor "It stinks in here I'm opening a window" (high level)
  14. Coming to this correspondence cold and with no assumptions of any conspiracy this is transport professionals and a councillor looking to resolve some issues. This will happen in most areas of work, but without people trying to disect your every word. These appear as genuine people trying to improve the built environment and public health.
  15. I rode from SE London to Victoria Street for decades. I was very conservative in that I kept the same route for many years before I was persuaded otherwise 1. Court Lane (now appreciating the easier junction at the end), onto the Village, Red Post Hill, Hene Hill Road, Loughborough Junction, Brixton Road, Kennington (now complete with cycle paths), Black Prince Road (admiring the pub in the Kingsman, and noting how this road has now got much more trendier at the North End), right onto the embankment, over Lambeth Bridge, hey presto. - Brixton Road muh better and nice cycle routes, a bit of a hill (Herne/Denmark hill), congestion at Lambeth Bridge and poorly phased (and mainly unecesary) ligts Lambeth Bridge South Side. 2. An earlier route took me over Vauxhall Bridge, lots of cycling infrastructure, slow crossing the river with numerous traffic lights. Sometimes a bit of a traffic jam of bikes. Don't recommend. 3. Up Greendale, down Champion Hill into Camberwell, cut through at or near Burgess Park, come out back end of the Elephant. Lots of cycling infrastructure. Hills. 4. My preferred route. Peckham - Rye Lane, Canal path by the swimming pool, coming out on Peckham Hill Street, Old Kent Road, Elephant, a clunky right takes you past the Imperial War Museum, Left towards Lambeth Bridge and over Quickest and flatest route. Bit clunky by Elephant but you get used to it. Old Kent Road traffic, mainly bus lanes. Can be very busy by Peckham Rye. I'll send you a route map if you want to know more.
  16. I find this link useful to work out my class
  17. But it remains Cat that is wrong on so many fronts to hold the World Cup in Qatar. Obviously money talks, the Country is phenomenally rich, they have to do something with their money, and the West is utterly dependant on Qatar due to the massive gas reserves. It may be as wrong to have sporting relationships with many other countries due to human rights abuses. But the World Cup must be the largest and most lucrative sporting event in the world (superbowl???). Not sure why this was not challenged from the minute it was awarded to them. Meanwhile as per original post, I'd love your suggestions of alternative activities.
  18. Thanks Cat. I still consider things on a country by country basis. Qatar is very much beyond same sex relationships, migrant workers, climate change, women's rights, and the need to be actually playing the sport and have the organisation and infrastructure in place rather building from scratch. And the weather. Not sure if most of the countries in the attached list fall foul of all of these.
  19. A little belated but tonight I'll be watching a verbal scrap on EDF. Rocks, if you are listening, this is how you have a proper argument. Just like the school playground Tomorrow I'll be searching for countries that outlaw homosexuality, so I can be better informed. Many I expect tolerate it despite their laws - I recall this was the situation in India, before they legalised same sex relationships in 2018. Interesting point on whether England should play cricket in such countries, and those with the death penalty. Spose you have to draw a line somewhere and he/she without sin should cast the first stone (eg allegations of torture against Western democracies, abuses during the Irish troubles etc).
  20. Anyone got a cat that will take on a squirrel?
  21. Have a squirrel (or squirrels) in the loft, bought a cage and baited it. What to do if/when I catch one. They are vermin and by law have to be disposed of. I've killed one rat in my life, but not anything else classed as a sentient being. What do do, what to do. I'll be going for the green squawky things and feral pigeons next.....
  22. Readers will decide whether I set the trap for you Rocks but your post did tickle me. I forgot to add the further view that you often repeat is that any research in support of LTNs is by researchers with an agenda. I don't recognise all this pro-LTN and pro-cyclist lobby you keep on about. I've never actively campaigned for LTNs and it is decades since I was on any cycling protests (I was probably campaigning to release Nelson Mandella, stop the Poll Tax and anti-Gulf War 1 around that time. I'm definitely in support of active travel, and reducing emissions/reliance on cars, but do this through my MP, rather than lie down in the road. The gigs in the 80s and 90s when campaigners took over roads and held parties sounded fun, but not heard of those for years and not gluing myself to any Whitehall buildings. I should really stop posting on this site, others articulate my views much better, but I expect something ludicrous will come up that I feel the need to challenge.
  23. BTW surprised that ULEZ and the extension hasn't been raised, with the usual comments about money grabbing Khan, the cycling lobby, persecuting motorists etc. It's good that this will help improve bus services in the outer boroughs. A loud raspberry to the Transport Secretary for suggesting only those without cars use buses. Along the lines of Thatcher that only the poor and unsuccessful use buses. I'm reading to much into this😊
  24. I was simply surprised that you hadn't posted and dissed this earlier. You are slipping rocks. You know my views on air quality. Surely it would be more profitable to campaign to reduce the number of vehicles rather than repeat and repeat your views on the so called cycling lobby, 'corrupt and incompetent Southwark', 'flawed' research, and the leafy streets.
  25. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-63729618 London LTNs: Pollution and traffic down in surrounding areas, research shows Funny how nobody posting on this thread saw this on the local news or posted the link. Ultimately as I have said numerous times, motorists need to change their habits and when they need to use their vehicles do it more smartly - including higher occupancy and smoother driving. The motor vehicle is the main source of roadside pollution. Many most affected by the LTN do not drive, but millions do and most don't or wont change their habits without a large stick. Central government has to do more. (And I expect for many sending their kids some distance to school and/or driving them, again air pollutun and the impact on others does not come into the equation) Rocks I expect a long and detailed critique on why the research is flawed.
