This thread seems to be very much I told you so, with Cat occasionally giving a very different view. I'd be more interested in what the way forward is now we have left. Obviously I would welcome a closer arrangement with the EU and happy to have Europeans to do both low paid work (hospitality, agriculture) where there is a case as well as skilled workers where there is a shortage. The skilling up of the population isn't going to happen overnight.

Wilko Johnson's obituary - he helped to shape the music scene in the 70s and 80s, and was a regular visitor to the Ivy House (formerly Newlands Tavern) with his then band Dr Feelgood. For younger readers he was in Game of Thrones. Lucky enough to see him in the Blockheads, his own band and playing with Norman Watt Roy from the Blockheads. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/nov/23/wilko-johnson-obituary

Forest green Vs Alvechurch FA Cup on the Beeb, Alvechurch just equalised
-
Well pleased I missed last night's match. And thanks to Sue and Nyge for a great gig last night at the Ivy. Saw USA vs Portugal in Manaus 8 years ago. Great match with the American fans boisterous and the locals supporting Portugal, wdo equalised in injury time. The organisation was chaotic, and tickets for locals aimed at those living in favela but bought by rich European Brazilians, farcical. Accommodation grossly inflated and squalid. Earlier experience at cologne World Cup 2006, German organisation brilliant, match rubbish nut Dortmund wonderful stadium.

Rye Lane buses again: Consultation open on one way option
malumbu replied to IainJ's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Very useful info but no need for the dig at cyclists - as per the lime bike and LTN threads too. Not helpful this manufactured car Vs bike war. Usec Rye Lane as my commute until recently. My issues were vehicles parked on double yellows, which would block the buses, and endanger cyclists, pedestrians just walking into the road without looking, the phasing of the lights, and the condition of the cycle route on the pedestrianised section. Took the former up with Southwark and shared a very comprehensive FOI response on here about enforcement. Got nowhere with TFL and Southwark on damage to cycle path due to buses. But it was time to move on. Ambivalent to the pedestrianising the road, pleased that there are far fewer vehicles parked in recent times. -
Breath deeply. Relax. I've had a nice night out at the Ivy/Goose Better still I've not watched the football. See my incredibly unpopular thread on the political bit of the forum.

New Street Furniture Dulwich Village
malumbu replied to smooch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It brightens the area, shame the killjoys out there can't see that. There are definitely far worse football kits, that would be a fun thread. I'm starting off retro with Coventry's chocolate kit. https://football7080.com/2020/07/coventry-city-and-the-chocolate-brown-kit/ You can buy cushions and duvet covers in the exact same style, so what was considered naff 40 years ago is now the height of style -
Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
malumbu replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
Love the bromance - but surely I am not the only one who goes, oh no, not another long post by Rocks, either repeating previous stuff or going to yet another level. Well I suppose there are worse pastimes. Anyway, being, more constructive, thought I'd do a little research. Well a couple of minutes on Google. Lime have appointed their own parking wardens, and will 'fine' users as you have asked for (do take this as it is, rather than use it as another blunt tool to dis the concept: https://ebiketips.road.cc/content/news/lime-parking-wardens-introduced-in-london-to-ensure-responsible-parking-of-e-scooters And with Move Electric have a campaign to encourage responsible parking: www.moveelectric.com/e-bikes/lime-and-humanforest-launch-campaigns-promote-good-e-bike-parking You could also go to their Trustpilot review - not great either as some don't rate the VFM, and a few are peed off for being fined for unsocial parking. Perhaps some of you would like to hire one, and then you can let rip on Trustpilot, Obviously some in SE22 must love them as they are quite popular. It would help if they had a mobile phone holder so you could keep two hands on the bars. Riding whilst holding a mobile phone on a hire bike or e scooter is compulsory. Note isn't it good when we comment on links rather than just posting them. Enjpoy. -
As a savvy consumer with much knowledge about buildings I d love to say I have never had any problems. But I've had plenty go wrong I've had a few battles directly, through trade associations and ultimately County Court, with some success, but would rather not have the hassle. Do contact trading standards, I have a contact so can ask on your behalf if you PM me.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
malumbu replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a thread about problems with a builder, councillor. Are you a conduit with trading standards. I expect since local authority finances were decimated during the unjustified programme of austerity it is difficult to speak to TS directly. In a former life I used to do this a lot. Feel free to contact the resident directly on the thread. -
Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
malumbu replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
Sorry Ricks, life is too short to read your long posts. Can you summarise them. That would help your case. I'll summarise mine. E scooters and e bikes offer a number of benefits such as environment, convenience/personal mobility. There are down sides such a road safety/ how to accommodate on our crowded roads Most posting on this thread dislike the concept and over emphasise the negative impacts. (I've never hired a scooter or e bike, but occasionally a push bike on holiday). -

Pretty irrelevant as this is hire scooters. There are other threads on this site where angry of East Dulwich can gnash their teeth. Micomobility like it or not is hear to stay. -
Personal choice. We are not in a one party police state. Joe Lycett gives £10k to charity. Beckham gets 15 million from a state with a dreadful human rights record. Bono laughs all the way to the bank whilst preaching about poverty. And you make a cheap jibe about a Christmas tree?

I said 'more', not 100 percent, enforcement. If you drive responsibly then what do you have to fear? The 'poor motorist' being picked on' doesn't wash. Successfully challenging the culture of entitlement is needed before we can move on. I'm talking about driving standards. It yours is the typical response from the motoring lobby, shifting blame to cyclists. Cycling standards is a separate issue and can't be used to justify bad driving. I'm glad to have lost my sense of motoring entitlement many years ago
-
I'd love more enforcement of traffic offences. Too many entitled motorists get away with speeding and irresponsible driving. In an ideal world we'd all behave better but we've had decades of pro driver policy. This is nowt to do with the LTN but daft comments about the 'poor motorist'

I expect you need large numbers. Much larger than we see

Posting in the politics bit, as this is very much current affairs I've got little interest when I've discussed my distaste over the holding of this tournament in Qatar. I've got plenty of other football to watch live in the lower divisions and non-league. I'm well aware that pubs are dependent on this type of revenue, surely the members of FIFA from the western, footballing and boozing countries, would have been well aware of this when the stupid decision was made to award the competition to Qatar. Or FIFA could have had the balls to move it to another country when Qatar admitted that they could not hold a summer World Cup. A bit heavy as most know of the issues. Suggestions for other things to do during the tournament. Light hearted/p takes welcome. Like tidying your sock draw or sorting out your inhereted collection of screws.

Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement

I think that this proves my point that many of you simply don't like cyclists. A thread that Iis about inconsiderate Lime bike riders has gone on to a tirade against those on two wheels -
wanted! your thoughts about what women need in a car
malumbu replied to veronicaspanishteach's topic in The Lounge
I want to live in a world where we don't distinguish between genders in normal life activities. The faster we get rid of toxic masculinity and the motor car the better. I've never used that term before, I must be picking things up from younger generations who generally get this! -

Not very helpful to harp on about a cycling lobby. This cyclist vs cars war is fabricated by the popular press, exacerbated by the BBC (recent Panorama) who should have known better. Be honest, most of you posting on this thread dislike cycles and what you perceive to be sanctimonious cyclists on their moral high horses. I doubt whether some are that bothered about disabled rights until it suits your cause. I have, and could post similar on the LTN thread but I've wasted too much time on that already. -
Have a walk along the footpath between the Horniman and the old railway nature reserve and you will see wrens. They are the most numerous of birds but rarely seen in gardens round our way, only ever seen one in the last decade or two in ours.

Reducing car use despite any personal inconvenience surely is a good thing. -
Taking action to reduce car use surely is a good thing. Can you look beyond personal inconvenience and your dislike of the Village?
