Does the Old Kent Road Refuse and Recycling Centre accept mattresses?
malumbu replied to ondined's topic in The Lounge
There is a dumping ground for old mattresses and used tyres by Camberwell Old Cemetery. Langton Road. Always amazes me as Lewisham pick up mattresses from outside your house so it must be you Southwark residents! The tyres are from dodgy businesses. Never understood why people fly-tip. -
9,300 people a year are injured by fireworks each year in the US and arond 4 people die. As a kid I think we had similar statistics at a time when you could pretend to be 14 and buy them loose from the corner shop. It's a shame that the prettier quieter firworks are less common - OK hardly spectacular but nice when we were kids. But on the up side the drastic decrease in firework injuries particuarly as the garden displays became less common. A mate used some display fireworks in his small garden a few years ago. What comes up comes down and bloody lucky not to clout someone in the street. Funnily enough I made my own illegal fireworks around 30 years ago. Helped working in a lab. I am not really sure the point of my posting.

99% of Daily Express Readers believe that we should quite the EU now. Not sure about the maths though as only around 3 people read the Express, so one may have the slightest of doubts. Obivously not an open doubter or the Mail would have names him/her. I had to Google mavais-foi. Perhaps that should have been the OED (or was it Collins) word of the year rather than Brexit.

This explains it fairly simply. I imagine that it is only essential to earth a gas meter if it is in a box outside. http://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/guides-and-advice/around-the-home/earthing-and-bonding/

One of the songs to play at my funeral. Genuinely. Except that this is 'Jacky's' white Horses -theme tune to the TV series of the same name.

Going back to the original question. I've said earlier the economic shock when the price of oil went through the roof in the mid 70s that screwed my father's hard earned pension and had a massive effect on family finances let alone the disintegrating economy of the late 70. I feel this is a repeat be it a separate and self-inflicted cause. I vary between denial and anger. We are a more divided nation than ever and much of this is to do with the apparent hatred of us 'lefy do-gooders' across much of the country. Well we may be do-gooders but hearts and intentions in the right place and we want (or wanted) a united country. There are plenty who know far more about economics and politics than me - rather than loath them for this (as I suspect many outside our informed community would) I learn from it. I may think some of you are MCW but I still listen where you have knowledge and substance. Love and peace, the Chief MCW. © Life is Sweet/Jane Horricks

Interesting debate on Nicky Campbell when they got people to call from both sides. I usually say no thank you straight away. But at times I will debate - God sent them to my house so I could convert them, or my best one is to wish a plague on all humans so the planet could recover. However, if Mr and Mrs Hall are alive, Martin Hall's parents, a plague on you for fightening a 8 year old shitless in 1969/70 with your tales of the end of the world and quoting me literally from the bible. Now that was evil

Or perhaps you were being mischievious. If so fell for it hook line and sinker.

Wow. So no industrial decline from the 50s onwards? Motorcycle industry was dead before joining the then EEC and cars we made (and have driven many of them) pathetic. Read a history book. There have been good times and bad. Even at our height the Germans and US were knocking at our door with, quite often, superior production and technology. And that is not even going into the way we used trade barriers, embargos, tarifs and colonisation. Definitely the most Little England comment I've seen for a long time. Can anyone beat that?

More importantly they have proper full height urinals in the Blythe, a prerequisite for a good pub and subject of another thread of mine. When I fitte it I tested it without the tap in place and got a jet of water in my face when the toilet was flushed. Funny! I'd better upload a photo.

Sadly many of us have been burgled. It tends to be random and I hope that not a lot was taken. Do get advice from the police about home security and ask for that smart water as we have been given up the road from you by the Met.

I'm with Heseltine. Never imagined that I would say that. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/oct/23/lord-and-lady-heseltine-gardening-squirrels-thenford-brexit Havind said that one got trapped in a bird feeder once and I was unable to dispatch it.

As someone who has a professional interest in this sort of thing it would be good to hear from those who have bought, thinking of buying, or decided not to buy a SUV vehicle. This is not an opportunity to slag off Chelsea tractor drivers. We can all do this. But those who chose (or not as is the case) to buy one due to practicality or whatever. I wont offer any criticim and it would be great if others act similarly. Including not commenting on use, occupancy, school runs or whatever. My flag of truce is up. I'll explain more later but there is no hidden agenda here (beyond a better understanding of purchasing decisions). There is already data and researcg out there. Also any objective views are welcome from interested observers. Leave talk of bikes, car clubs, publc transport, congestion and obsesity to another thread.

Always leave mine strapped up outside but ask and Con will let you take it through, tell him the tall biker said it would be fine. Do check out and report back and ignore any snidy comments

Gowlett is a decent pub, I am probably too old for it once the DJs start spinning their tunes. A small yard where you can take kids (which are allowed in during the day). Better than many alternatives. Owner also had the Old Nuns Head (or at least did)

I first drunk there 30 years ago. It was one of my favourite pubs irrespective of the then grumpy landlord and lady. I've given it a go on every refurb and like most of the Youngs Estate it is now horrid. And such a lovely location. You are welcome to it! Good pubs get plenty of comments on various sites such as this. Only one sad person appears to have had any views in the last 18 months. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/41/4129/Dulwich_Woodhouse/Sydenham Here's a real pub http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/2991/Blythe_Hill_Tavern/Forest_Hill No food but they allow you to bring a takeaway. What's not too like? And you can combine it with a nice walk too. Interesting to compare whether (DW) it is as bad as the Herne. In terms of building and beer worse, but perhaps for controlling ankle biters better. My daughter first visited the Blythe when she was a few days old. I am sure that she enjoyed it.

I've been posting a mixture of advice, serious views and the odd facetious comment. Unlike a previous chat room I was on I've tried not to get embroilded in the politics. If I take the piss out of the middle classes then I am being (at least in part) self deprecting. I know a couple OF you have trolled me at times but I wouldn't remember the names off the top of my head. I also spot others who seem to be trolling or just plain unpleasant. The only one I would name is Grok, due to some particularly rubbish attempt at humour on my "What to buy for a 50th birthday" thread. Pehaps he or she may take a look at themselves (as I do to when perhaps my posts are mistinterpretted). Right, now I have the moral highground I can sleep nicely and smuggly/self satisfied tonight.

It's a charity for gawd's sake. Cut them some slack. Take a deep breath and move on. Think about Yemen or Syria. In deed this would make a good comedy sketch. Alternativey write to the Grauniad's consumer problems page. They are getting pretty desparate. For those who get all upity about my posts this is said in good humour.

Wander around - a great place Eat well during the day when they do fixed price meals, some places will do formula on the wine (ie a fixed mark up) Buy beer from the state off license and then hide behind a tree (very tight on public drinking) Watch out for weak beer sold in the supermarkets. See a footy match Go around the archipeligo by boat. Go to the viking museum/boat - Vasa. Plenty to do.

The going home for the weekend song thread...come on you groovey foookers

I asked I Ludicrous to play at my wedding party thingy. They had a lame excuse of being out of practice or something. Got to see them at the Hope and Anchor in more recent times. I've posted there footy related tracks elsewhere on this forum. Of course John was a clerk for most of his working life and when we saw them about ten years ago it looked like they had both come from the office. I'll probably see John at a 60th in a few weeks time. Wow, what a rock and roll life I lead. -
In my younger days I used to go to quite a lot of radio shows. Started doing this again a few years ago (the Now Show, News Quiz and on one lucky occasion - obviously telly - Later with Jools Holland). In the last two years I have had zero success for anything (all popular programmes). I similarly had no success for the Euros both in France and Poland and very lousy for the London Olympics. Yet Wimbledon always come up trumps. Is it truly totally random? A poll of contacts who went for Euro 2016 showed that none of us within the M25 were successful. Is this a conspiracy?! Interested to know of others' experiences. Hopefully this is a tame question to ask.

Fascinaing reading, and has got my head out of the sand, briefly. So perhaps most agree we have gone from a relatively stable and reasonably strong position to short, medium and probably long term instability. And it may take a generation to sort out and realise benefits?? When if I am still alive I can sit back in my bath chair and observe. I'm probably stating the obvious. Right, head going back in the sand "nah nah nan I'm not listening, not listening. Please don't respond to this post, leave it for the more informed discussion.

Endsleigh. Used them for about 15 years. In another life Direct Line were quite difficult. They probably all come with 24 hour emergency support - although the Endsleigh one seemed to have become more restrictive. Also used Aon once but they cancelled my contract after a dispute over work not done on a claim. Obviously this is one person's experience.

Sense of humour failure my dear friends. Just pointing out a bit of an over-reaction by the media. Obviously the point had been made before. Brawl refers to loosely equally matched groups where no real harm is done. If you want some a real story when the London clubs came down about a 100 of them would stand in their Pringles/Stay prest/etc then start chanting and get chased, led onto the pitch, and receive a warm round of applause from the away end as they were marched round to join them. It got a bit silly after Man U got relegated in 74 when they suddenly got the reputation of trouble and picked up more fans. Glory hunters were Leeds and Liverpool before that. When they came back in 75 there were pitch invasions every away match when they came back up. Rember one at Derby but it was almost dancing with 18 year olds with long hair, short jumpers and baggies trying to kick each other. Then the Man U fan who fell through the roof at Carrow Road. Of course there was far more unsavoury stuff and generally glad it has gone. Always had to be careful at Upton Park even in modern times.

Google it. http://www.cchargelondon.co.uk/coverage.html It is the boundary so you are OK. Boris got rid of the Western extension. For some reason. Got caught once driving on 24 December - a working day of course! Essentially never drive in central London on work days.
