PAYD insurance - do you know what it is? Do you have it?
malumbu replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
You pay water rates. There is an approximate assessment of your usage. You have a water meter fitted and pay for what you use. This is a similar concept. What's not to like? Please tell me one way or the other. Otherwise I will have to do a poorly designed and annoying survey monkey survey. See my other thread that nobody has responded to. -
Some useful, hopefully objective, background on this whole debacle http://www.globalgovernmentforum.com/uk-government-under-pressure-to-set-out-brexit-vision/ Sounds like confusion reigned in the debate yesterday with TM rejecting points based immigration and DD needing to be corrected.

Hopefully the title of this thread should have whetted you appetite. Around 1% of drivers have pay as you drive insurance, where telematics (black box) monitor your driving techniques and safer driving is rewarded by lower premiums. Always think that this is aimed at novice drivers, but perhaps it should be attractive to more more of us. Views would be great.

In a sober moment I dom't think there is an issue in asking him why he is so xy and z, and saying that it is sad the impact that he has had. A man of no doubt some intelligence and good education who has stoked up a hatred and a divided society. Perhaps ask him what he thinks of Oswold Mosley. Dennis Pennis could do it just brilliantly.

Ha ha, welcome to the real world, do I sense some snobbey here?

Ah good, a proper Midlands brewery - Mitchells and Butlers. Brew XI and a decent pint of mild. Memories of 1970s adverts with blokes with sideburns, ladies with long hair, smoky background and tankards of beer. http://www.priory-antiques.co.uk/images/uploads/EMBASSY_M_AND_D.jpg http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3851096 I am glad something good has come out of Brexit.

Wow, that?s a bit of a leap from calling someone a wonker, to murdering them. His presence does offend me and he has pedalled hatred, intolerance and total bollox, which is why he should be held to account. But how you do this appropriately and subtly is beyond me. Thanks for your posts though which have given me some nice food for thought. Particularly like the last one. I read 'nut' hin as 'knob him' - now there would be a stunt.

best method/product for filling cracks between floorboards ?
malumbu replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Where is the foor and do you need to fill the gaps in? As it will be a floating floor no doubt houses breath in part through the floor. Will there be any sort of covering? If you do need to fill the gaps, thin slithers of wood as has been already suggested. Anything else will just be messy. -
Could be a talking point. Assumed that he'd make smoking compulsory for all over 12 as it was when my father was a lad.

Freaky that this thread is now under 'Man of Kent' - I hope that this is a pub not a rally call for Farage. Should have added before you get on your high horses that all are entitled to free speech, and quiet entertainment. But big difference between taking your family out for a nice pub lunch, as opposed to having a beer with your party mates in Westminster.

He sometimes frequents it. It's not the Westminster Arms but not so far away. Serious suggestions (a) Ignore him (b) Politely tell him what I think of him © Talk loudy and facetiously about what Brexit means to me (d) offer him uptipped high tar fags and hope these will fastrack his demise. (e) Ask why he is drinking amongst the people he loathes (d) is not a serious option as untipped Capstan Full Strength or Players Navy Cut don't exist any more.

Just deleted my highly amusing but probably not very appreciated answer which included how to use a search engine, and a swope at reader#s questions in the Guardian So to save you Googling it http://clubfinder.badmintonengland.co.uk/bec/ Crossfire may have moved from Harris Girls and the hall was always a bit barren and cold. If you want to go furher South, and in political terms to the right, then Park Langley in Beckenham is one of the best clubs in SE London (it is London even though they seem to be in Kent). http://www.theparklangleyclub.co.uk/ If you are a beginner better to go to a nightschool class.

I saw this great bash at Brixton in the early 90s curated by Jesus and Mary Chain, with Dinosaur Junior and the brilliant My Bloody Valantine. I had no recollection of the fourth band until I sadly read the Cheeseman and friend of Cotswolds royalty self indulgent autobiogaphy. What? I saw Blur? Did I really? Well that didn't make any impression. Go forward a year and at the newly reopened Shepherds Bush Empire I saw St Etienne. Heard late that Oasis got a big break by touring with them. I didn't remember that, but on research found that it was Pulp with them that night. And similarly no recollection (although loved them a short time later). There can be separate threads on gigs that I forgot to go to, or famous support bands that I got in too late to see (Altered Images - not that famous- with Siouxie and the Banshees). I've slept through some bands as well due to too much booze, notably the Fall.

I hope that you have five minutes to complete a quick survey about Malumbu's threads and posts. 1. Are they (a) interesting (b) very interesting 2. Do you (a) read them regularly (b) all the time © you can't sleep in anticipation of the next chapter 3. How could you improve Malumbu's post's even further

Constant home made surveys are driving me mad. How long is a piece of string? (a) Short (b) long I worked with some market research companies years ago. Fascinating. Focus groups, dry runs, so that the final product asked meaningful questions, that were precise, and we could analyse the data. Now a couple of times a month I am asked to fill in an evaluation or 'how do I feel today' diy survey. The latest was why we are not having good converastions. About what? Who with? banter or work???

Assume Thameslink if you get a cab to East Croydon will work

I thought that this one one of those accidents where "I slipped in the shower" Sorry for my puerile comment, particularly as some of the childish banter on this site annoys me. Glad you got it sorted.

They got a ?1000 grant from a local neighbourhood fund.

Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads with Ant and Dec Oh wait a sec, it'd been done. And not bad too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2S5XPeWjNk

It's not all bad. Honest. Dad's Army can still hold it's own. Although strictly that is a 1960s sitcome. Slipping forward a decade I was out boozing for most of the 80s I missed loads of stuff. But on the odd catch-up Too the Manor Born, Hi de Hi, and Allo Allo are still amusing. As of course anything that Ronnie Barker was in (not sure about Del Boy - which does seem very dated). I will defend the indefenisble - Love thy Neighbour - as it was supposed to expose racism. But done so clumsyly it is considered to have the opposite effect. But 'are you being served' just makes me cringe. And Steptoe and Son clearly went on a number of seasons to long. Benny Hill is just embarrassing. Not sure what I think about Kenny Everett. But neither are sitcoms.

Sorry to start a new thread,as I couldn't find one of the relevant old ones. It hasn't gone away, and will only get more relevant as time goes on. But maybe 10 weeks later time for a bit of more sober reflection. It would be interesting if others have a different slant on things, or understanding, to what they thought at the time. Not that we are going to fix it and please don't rant. I've done enough of that. Even ten weeks later I am still stuggling to work out why and who to blame (including a number of our politicians). History will decide. I still see and hear some of the rabid celebrations of outers, aimed as much at the liberal classes. Those of us who want a more equal society. It was supposedly a vote against the free market yet not a lot has happened. We may get even more dependent on rogue states. I am starting to loath all the project fear stuff and see this as an invention of the Brexiters. And from my take nobody talked about economic collapse, rather than a still very likely economic downturn (with additional borrowing, and the possibility of reduced revenue). The government, city, BoE will of course work to mitigate that. But any grasping of short term benefits ("told you so" - inlcuding an article by the Grauniad economics editor) is very premature. I have lost friends but thinking about it, their views and politics were diametrically opposed to mine and they were the little Englanders xenophobes that it easy to stereotype all Brexiters as. The one that does confuse me were the Green splinter group who voted out. I am one of those who are going to have to sort this mess out. I loath the Government narrative which every other line is 'clear message' 'Brexit is Brexit'. I want a General Election. The one argument that I can perhaps understand is the anti-federalism one. Which takes us back to Maastricht and why the fug we didn't have a referendum then (if we needed one at all). I'd still rather the mess that the EU is, due to the wider benefits including being part of the bigger thing, and common beliefs/purpose with the people of Europe. This is what was lacking in the stay campaign. From my ignorance of politics and history I thought the world was full of societies that were not properly functioning. Wasn't the US broke in the 30s but still trundled on? I'm still coming across arguments where which are nothing to do with the EU, and are UK fiscal policy. We could have done things differently as the French in particular manage to do (protectionism, of course building costs would double!). Whilst this is not a rant thread, do indulge me one little one. Perhaps all of those recent migrants that voted out would like to be first in the queue to leave. I am sure that this is a minority but still struggle with "EU allowed you to come to the UK to have a better life and now you have voted to leave.

Is this on a proper grinding tool and set-up - we had someone call once who sharpened chisels using a hand held drill so it was all done by eye.

Asked this question a few weeks ago - a couple more suggestions http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1691783,1692319#msg-1692319

Why are buses travelling more slowly? Blame Ocado....(and others).
malumbu replied to Nigello's topic in The Lounge
Oh and the lack of enforcement eg parking on double yellows. Just see how much disruption this causes to buses every day on Rye Lane. I think this thread is dead now.
