  1. Was it a smoked glass windowed RR (drug dealer) or clear glass (yummy mummy). Yes I am stereotyping but there is a reason we stereotype as these are often based in some way on fact. It's a shitty thing to do and as you say some celestial being will ensure they suffer in return. I've had incidents when people have at least kindly left a note - although one anecdote was "I am only leaving a note because people are watching and I am not leaving my number". There is a collection of drug dealer cars near me - would this have left damage on the RR? I've got some good links to 'official sources of information' (legal I hasten to add) but black range rover is a bit broad. I reported someone smashing into a parked car in Wales in a pub car park once, and was stunned as nobody else wsa bothered. The pub said "oh that is so and so he's been banned". Got the number though. Shame that there was not a witness. Before anyone accuses me of double standards community forum are good for this sort of thing, rather than people just whinging. We had a kid's bike stolen ourside the house once, and someone advised me to put notices on lamp posts in teh are. And it worked, bike had been thrown into a garden by naughty teenagers. Have you thought of putting some notices up at the spot? You can also put one up about karma aimed at the driver. Good luck
  2. Right not write music sorry. And the vido proceeds onto other good headbanging. Huhhuhuhuh
  3. No young people no. As an old punk no. Not Queen. No no. That is almost as bad as Pink Floyd. Ths is proper hand banging. Head banging to the write music.
  4. I met a nice man in Blue Mountain cafe today in Sydenham. Traffic is a bit bad there but I didn't see any stupid women, or men to that point, either crossing the road or cycling on the pavement. Pehaps I should have stayed longer as sadly I don't have anything to report on this thread. In fact I'm not sure why I am posting at all.

    Brexit View

Intresting article Uncle - pros and cons of leaving CAP to EU and domestic markets, including 'However, British farmers would also be hit by increased competition if the country dropped tariffs on food, with most relying on financial support from the Government', and 'Rabobank also warned that Britons were likely to pay more for fresh fruit, vegetables and olive oil after the country leaves the EU, even if it drops tariffs'. All sounds very risky to me, as some of the more progressive farming fraternity point out on the Archers (the best source of info on Brexit). Is it really worth the risk? Do we want to return to the 1930s where it was cheaper to import spuds, that left us in a perlious position when we had our second world war. Whist the Indie and Torygraph generally have views from different extremes, both articles were interesting and informative. Hardly a tit for tat. Having an interesting discussion last week that it would be better for the agricultural produce where Souther Euopean climates and soils to be produced there, rather than Southern Europeans coming over here to pick produce, letting us concentrate on what our climate is best at (interestingly a lot of soft fruit grows well in our climes). That doesn't mean that there would not still be a requirement for overseas labour, and interesting to see Eastern Europeans staffing our fishing boats - not sure if this was selective filming by the BBC but it amused me at the time if the indiginous residents of Hull and Grimbsby don't want to fish as well as work on the land. What a mess, and it will get messier.
  6. red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Joy Division Disorder? First heard this when I saw them in May 1980. Their last ever gig. I was there. Nuff said.
  7. No Sue. On the same thead, but not in the same sentence. I am sure that you have enjoyed Pompmagne. Nobody ever enjoyed Concorde or anything similar, even at Agbigail's party.
  8. This thread is like a spot on your face. You know it is there, you know you don't like it, but you can't help occasionally looking at it, and worse still picking it. And you know you shouldn't. And then you hate yourself for doing that. I was going to post these lines before, but I thought that would be nasty (or even trolling, although I don't like to think of myself as such). So I started a nice light hearted thread instead, poking fun at myself as well. My words this time aren't at all light hearted. Step back people and look at yourself. Surely you are better than this selective rant about the minority of humanity. Think nice thoughts instead. About when people were helpful and courteous. When someone smiled at you in the street or when someone gave their seat up on public transport. Think happy talk, and Captain Sensible. Good nice and bless.
  9. Most impressed with the quality of threads and posts since I set this thread up. Well done all. And please do see my other threads, the one asking for advice on gents shorts is a particularly impressive one. So the council is planning to erect a new bus stop on a new route and have three options. An upper class area, a middle class area, and a working class area. They need to canvas local opinion so go door knocking. They start in the upper class area, no wait a minute, they don't have buses in upper class areas. So they go to the working class area, knock on the door and get a bloody nose. So finally to the middle class area where the householder is very charming. And then complains afterwards to their other half and writes a letter of complaint (fast foward from when the illustrative story was first told to me, and replace letter with e-mail, tweet or community chat room). Anyway people in glass houses etc as I have been guilty of the latter.
  10. What's craft English Cider? You get apples, press them, leave them, and drink the product. I drank Bulmers trad in the 80s which was as close as you get to farmhouse cider produced on a commercial scale at that time. It was cheap and strong, due in part to the low end market and cheap production. Now Bulmers traditional is a high end high price highly marketed product that tastes synthetic (to me) due to the processing and perhaps additives. Oh and it is effectively a different company. Unless of course you are talking about the wonderful Bulmers Pomagne, that was us plucky Brits taking on those garlic eating frogs, who had the temerity to take us to court as the product was so wonderful and was better than champagne. Actually it wasn't a tacky 70s product that we drunk around the scout camp fire but goes back to the time of the first world war (just found that out) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomagne
  11. Of course English sparkling wine is now superior, ah I remember Concorde not included the embedded link as this dominates the post That was horrid wine made from imported grape juice - more seriously http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/20/english-sparkling-wine-beats-champagne-in-paris-blind-tasting/ In fact I expect we will only be drinking our own stuff, oz, NZ and South African in a couple of years time..... None of this continental rubbish!
  12. They are noisy because they are evil diesel multiple units - chug chug Hurry up and electrify the line
  13. Go out of my way to buy cava or any other cheap bubbly when I need to celebrate. Prosecco seemed to suddenly turn up at the turn of the last decade. Personally I prefer a bottle of light Mexican style beer with a lime in the top (I think we called this lager and lime when I was a kid) or other fruit flavoured lager or cider (just like lager and black when we were kids). Is prosecco simply a fad?
  14. Be careful around Shadwell, it can be rough when they (the Dogs) are playing at home at the Kennel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I.D._(1995_film)

    Copenhagen

Christiania was certainly there two years ago. Do the cemetery Also get a train up to Kronberg Castle (aka Elsinore/Hamlet). Royal palaces and stuff. Tivoli gardens. As ever a reasonable source: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g189541-Activities-Copenhagen_Zealand.html
  16. Horniman has loads but perleese don't use it as a creche. Others will know what I mean (and others may also be be guilty). Assuming that you are a bloke the dad and kids stuff is fun. Not saying that mum and kids stuff isn't but for some reason on crafts dads sometimes get a bit competitive which livens things up. Purely fun I hasten to add. Probably a bit young for the nature trail.
  17. Hmm. How long is a piece of string. I'd expect a basic cooker to last 20 years (I think our last one was about 35!). If things last for under 5 years then I get all stroppy. You are in between the two but I go with Trev above and give it a go. There is loads of good advice on the net and sure that someone will advise a good indie repair person. I spose about ?50 for the labour and ?20 for the part? Got our Bosch dishwasher repaired under free second year warranty - so fortunately did not have to have a battle with the retailer about fit for purpose. It was in deed two parts that failed prematurely - and fixed in about 20 mins. TF I didn't have to pay Bosch prices for the call out. Let us know how you get on. May be DIYable but not for me to advise if not in your comfort zone.
  18. Eg I saw somebody pass wind in the street. How dreadful. Yes I agree. Isn't modern life dreadful. I have to stop myself from making sarcky (aka witty) comments. But time for a serious debate as the great Mrs Merton Merton (RIP) would say. Has Malumbu got a point? Or should he just get back in his box. It would be nice to have serious/thoughful comments please - I'll be the first to say that I am setting myself up here. Thanking you.
  19. Modern life I'm afaid. Get used to it.
  20. 66 posts on a thread best placed in the Daily Mail. And an offensive title. I could have a rant about dangerous pedestrians, cyclists and drivers but I can't be bothered. And thanks to the cyclist who didn't give me grief when I tried to dodge traffic by St James Park. Very foolish of me. And it the tables had been reversed and I was on the bike then I wouldn't have been so tolerent. There's a lesson. Last post definitely shows why this should be left to the Daily Mail. Politicians who want to discourage cars. Sadly not enough in my opinion - and charging by the mile (as will have to come one day) is the most equitable way of paying for our roads. More importantly there are far more important threads on this site, such as gents in shorts, and fruit picking. I await your views dear readers!
  21. Oh and the other thing, is the loss of good cellar men/women and managers, because ale isn't where they make the money. Even when I was behind the bar, soft drinks brought in serveral times the profit than the beer.
  22. A broader question. Why do I expect that both the Half Moon and Dog will not be an improvement? Am I just a grumpy old man? I'm not overly fond of Fullers, but was not impressed by the HM's quality of beers. Do I have a bias before I go in? Is this a reaction to me not liking the whole gastroisation/boutique hotel stuff or what I see as attracting 'shallow' clinetele or is it just that discerning punters don't bring the money in? Am I just being pompous?! (don't answer that one) Had lunch in a Fullers pub in Harrow, and the food was just as I expected. It really wasn't worth making a fuss. I don't dislike all Fullers places, and recognise that their Pie and alehouses in central London can deservedly charge a premium. On the opposite I used to be snooty about Wetherspoons, but now think that I can get 3 pints for a fiver, and have say a 70% success rate and that is fine. Similarly I don't expect anything from their food so can't be dissappointed. Sam Smiths, lovely lovely boozers but not the finest ale (but so cheap) but even there I am coming around to their beer and bought a meal in the Rising Sun in Smithfields for well under a tenner and was astonished how good it was coming across as home made and properly cooked. My usual view on pub food, no matter how up market is, is go to a restaurant if you want good food. Sorry to go off track but am I being objective??
  23. Phew, fortunately I was picking in 79 before the snatch squads came in. Most of us were signing on.... and cash in hand. Allegedly
  24. As a kid we used to go fruit picking. Lousy pay, and only worked because us kiddiwinks would accept this. The I discovered peas, on a more industrial, where although it was peace (peas) work, I could earn something more akin to today's minimum wage. Bought me a few nights out, books and other preparations for going to university. Thinking back some had probably done this all their working lives (casual farm labouring). I expect that mechanization replaced much of this need but still wonder why there is so little labour sourced locally. It wasn't that bad a job and ideal for a 17 year old before going to higher education. I suppose this is like asking my late mother if she went hop picking before the war. Oh no, we weren't that poor.
  25. Oddly enough I don't like the current hipster fashion of showing 3 inches of ankle, and never liked those 3/4 shorts on blokes (seem OK on ladies, but not sure if this is an objective view). Remember going to womad 24 years ago and the fashion was for lycra shorts - often bright and longer than my cycling shorts. Urgghhhh.
