  1. Ah, glad you have admitted that this is a business, first thing that came to mind. I wont be subscribing. Happy to provide free advice on where to eat! Should this not be in the classified section?
  2. I've got a few awkward things to fix, so visited Penge Men in Sheds website, to hear of the Beckenham Repair cafe. The concept of the latter is to repair and reuse rather than throw away. I went today, It was buzzing and I was most impressed. I'm not sure if there are nearer facilities. I'll post on the Whats on part of the forum the next time the Repair Cafe is open. Have others any experience in these community projects? Are there closer ones than Penge and Beckenham?
  3. That was rather an unfriendly post. And an unnecessary personal comment. I have as much interest in tracking cars as tracking cyclists. I can't see either of the two major parties doing this, and even for Reform it would be a step too far, and alienate many of their core vote. The only tracking devices I want are to discourage theft and hopefully return stolen goods. I have never said we should not drive, rather less, smarter, safer and more environmentally responsible driving. Surely we cannot disagree on this. And I am waiting to here the other side of the fence's experience of dangerous drivers. To point out I neither use this term, or 'cycle lobby', these are divisive terms that only polarise discussion and at time lead to some toxic/personal comments. As you asked today's experience was mainly speeding drivers - side roads in Beckenham and Cator Road in Beckenham. Some exceeding 50mph - Cator Road is wide and a race track. Now if they backed off the accelerator when passing me I wouldn't mind so much, but statistically you are far more likely to have a collision with another road user, including pedestrians, driving like that.
  4. Our side of the fence? You seem to be supporting the manufactured culture wars. This thread is getting dreadfully near an anti bike one. There is lots of talk of using technology to track bikes. So why are you not proposing that similar is done for cars. The modern vehicle is fitted with data capturing equipment. And then we could have no drivers misbehaving themselves. And I will repeat my request to your 'side of the fence' - your experience of dangerous driving. Me? Well it would be a huge number of close passes - drivers who do not give enough space when passing cyclists. Bur notable occurrences - road rage (being threatened and in one case driven at) - five or so Hit and run - once - left for dead after being knocked into a parked car by a speeding car Knocked off by a hire box van who didn't see me. knocked off by a car on Underhill pulling out without looking Car that did a u turn almost colliding with me - shouting fortunately got them to look Very close bus pass off the OKR and bus cuts left in front of me Peckaham And personal stats on collisions with pedestrians - a big round zero. Near misses from pedestrians stepping out without looking - dozens Near misses with delivery riders - too many, usually overtaking me at speed on the inside
  5. You and others keep going on and on about cyclists speeding in parks. So when somebody reports cars speeding in parks you cannot acknowledge that (a) it is an issue (b) it is dangerous. Instead you do your Farage/Clarkson/Johnson approach of ignoring the point and off down another direction. Yet another unhelpful dig. As a cyclist you will have come across numerous incidents of dangerous and inconsiderate drivers. Rather than denying this I'd be interested in your experiences of bad driving.
  6. See above. Do you have any views on bad drivers? If not perhaps don't comment. Clearly I can't stop you posting irrelevant comments.
  7. Wow, that is the most confusing post I've seen on this site. I'm sure I would agree if I understood it. Perhaps you or others would like to translate.
  8. Silly comment, unnecessary and not contributing to proper debate.
  9. Oh come on, you and others go on and on and on about cyclists. This is just providing a little balance. A large car blocking a street does far more to inconvenience others than any bike will.
  10. I'm still posting on this thread until it turns into an anti Southwark/cyclist/LTN/CPZ/ULEZ/school street thread. Two drivers today, large Volvo SUV did a u turn by Frogley/Nuffield, then hovered by a parking space that was too small, then blocked the road for everyone. Then a short time later another driver blocked Bawdale Road, parking with their hazards on, outside a garage, then proceeded to reverse several hundred metres still blocking the road. Not dangerous but just inconsiderate, first was probably on the school run and exemplifies how silly SUVs are in tight urban roads , It's clearly not every driver, but thanks for giving me opportunity to get it off my chest. Hope the car identified in the post above has been reported to the Met Police. I did similar for a DHL van that was not taxed that drove at me on purpose; whilst DHL were good in receiving my complaint (as well as reported to the police) they would not tell me the outcome. It was a contractor not employed directly by DHL.
  11. TTFO is a facetious comment aimed at doctors, who in their arrogance used to write inappropriate stuff about patients. NFN was another one - Normal for Norfolk. It didn't translate appropriately on this thread - apols for that. TJ actually kept me waiting yesterday, quite rare, but perhaps my issue wasn't as serious as I thought. The mind boggles. But waits for appointments seem to have improved in the slimline rationalised version.
  12. Good heavens Earl and are being trolled on a thread that we know nothing about, that seems to have been dormant for years. You are going to some length to troll us. And no I don't think it is funny, and if I was to do same I'd do something rather rude. Which I wont. Another thread I am leaving, even if this is the first post that I have made here.
  13. The number of successful appeals is very small, but shows that the system works in that occasionally PCNs could be issued incorrectly/there were special circumstances. My two appeals in the distant past were not successful and whilst I felt a bit like Rockets at the time I now realise it was futile as I did not have a valid reason. So this whole thread about you being upset about a justified bus lane fine won't change a thing. Another thread that to me feels pointless so I am now no longer posting on this one too. Very liberating
  14. There is so much wrong with the debate on this and most of the other transport threads. Firstly sweeping and personal statements like the one above. Those who have a different view apparently do not follow the Highway Code. Never have I, or I expect others similarly minded, made similar accusations that those posting complaining about cyclists, LTNs etc drive irresponsibly and dangerously and agree with such behaviour. And in the great scheme of things the above post was fairly mild. Secondly other personal jibes as just seen on the Dulwich Square thread Thirdly the childish nah nah nah "well you would say that" retorts Which brings me onto the whole pantomime approach. This is similar to what is playing out on our media by politicians and public figures such as Johnson, Farage and Clarkson. Avoid the question and turn on the other party. Farage did it on Question-time - looks to the audience, raises his eyes in disgust/contempt when Campbell challenges him on Brexit; Clarkson in the Victoria Derbyshire news interview when asked probing questions retorts about woke BBC and useless civil servants looking to other protestors who no doubt share these views bypassing the question. That's the approach a number of you adopt on these threads when we post an alternative view, often backed up with substance. I'll leave it there. I doubt if I will change things. I'll get on with some proper campaigning. Farewell.
  15. Very distorted and unnecessary comment. I was talking about freak events. Offensive. You would be better off on nextdoor.com
  16. None of the cyclists posting here think this way (not following the Highway Code). Not sure why you think like this. This attitude is not helpful for a grown up conversation.
  17. This is what I said. A freak death following a scuffle outside a pub. They don't then ban pubs. Or someone trips over a paving stone and cracks their head open. They don't ban walking. The original member of ELO who died when a hay bale fell off a trailer. They don't ban farming. Because occasionally s.... happens. So sadly occasionally someone is hurt or seriously injured when they get hit by a bike, the vast majority because they stepped into the road without looking. But only one example of when I bike was likely going over 20mph. Very sad, but a rare event.
  18. You should join Southwark Cyclists for one of their Saturday healthy rides. You profess to being a cyclist. It would help get rid of these dreadful stereotypes that you keep portraying and perhaps open your mind a little.
  19. Nice and appreciate the large font so that I don't need to use my reading glasses
  20. Of course I did. There are always freak deaths, a scuffle outside a pub and someone falls awkwardly. On the whole ...... Young children find it difficult to judge speed, hence one case for 20mph zones. As I keep saying, but it falls on deaf ears, you would struggle to find many cyclists going over 20mph in the area. Perhaps you should invest in a speed gun and do your own sample. You could then report back something new.
  21. Think you must need a popular front for Dulwich. Or a Dulwich popular front. I get confused between the two
  22. I don't know you wait hours for an anti LTN thread and then three turn up at once. I blame society once people stopped wearing hats.
  23. It's been explained many times, but you are very closed mind. Force of impact depends on mass and velocity. As bikes with rider weigh around 5 percent of a car then a collision with a human will do a lot less damage. This will not eliminate collisions, and ultimately would increase bike on bike, but the severity would be less. So there is a limited debate on speed control and bikes where the argument can be summed up as a speed limit would be disproportionate to the harm, impractical, unlikely to have a significant impact and expensive. It would not get through the tests on new legislation. Frankly it would be an embarrassment. But this whole thread is polarised as a small number of you are angry about LTNs, ULEZ extension, CPZs, school streets and even bus lane and want to put the blame, in part, on cyclists as whole, cycling groups, road safety campaigners, health benefits of active travel and those wanting to address climate change and poor air quality. And use a tiny number of cases when very few riders will regularly exceed 20 mph let alone 20 kmh on our roads. Surreal. Edited to add, that was responding to Rockets post
  24. So they have action as well as words. Well done to them. Rather than just bleating on, on this forum. They are open about their affiliations. Members can boot them out if they don't like it
  25. Why are you defending people driving their kids to school? Why do you jump on every pro driver argument? It's not a debate when you immediately take the opposite view. The fact is when the private schools break up the week before state schools the South Circular is much quieter.
