Not looking at any Twittter or X threads, unless I really have to. So not looking at the one above. I've said in the past that it is lazy just to post links without any comment. Musk as I am sure you may have guessed.

Southwark consultation on Peckham gyratory

Good result. As a cyclist how would you suggest that section of road could be improved? I'm waiting with bates breath ... -
You quoted Tommies as objecting to a bike lane as they presumably considered it unsafe. By quoting them you are effectively agreeing with their position at the time. Having cycled past Tommies scores of times I was neither aware that it was considered unsafe, nor did I see any reason for this. If you are going to quote other people and organisations you need to tell us why they are correct. I clearly am not calling you juvenille as I am sure you are aware. Rather a sweeping statement about London being lawless. Sort of thing that Trump and Musk would say about Khan

This isn't twenty years hence, this has been happening since the beginning of the millennium. Brewery and pub chains have been selling off their wet pubs (ie ones that don't do food) and many have closed to be redeveloped as domestic properties. The MMC report that broke up the power of the big breweries had an unexpected outcome in that it has contributed to a decline in the number of pubs. Tastes have changed, we drink less, and where we do drink this is more often at home. There is more choice on the telly, and other on screen activities such as what I am doing now. Con is retiring and I hope the Blythe stays loosely the same. I had a chat with him tonight and will play a song for the bar staff. I'll keep drinking in the Castle, so hope this continues to trade.

Go to the London Transport Museum and check out the old tram, the buses of those days were far more comfortable and efficient. Others argue that the fixed tracks did not provide the flexibility of bus routes, and was causing congestion as motor traffic increased on the roads. Trams were dropped from almost every part of the UK during the 50s. On the continent the road network is often extensive enough to maintain a tram network and/or planned economies ie Eastern Europe often led to extensive public transport networks. Visit Budapest where all modes are nicely coordinated.

More silly jibes. I expect the Rye doesn't seem the same level of private school traffic as Dulwich Common. -

Why is it a waste of money? Many of us will find out journeys safer and more pleasant. Well done LBS -
Nah, impossible! Not with one speed and surely not without a freewheel

Assume he is retiring but when I see him I will tell him that he is letting down so many of us. I doubt if he will change his mind! Hopefully staff will be kept on including those living on the premises He used to run two pubs in East Dulwich

Should cyclists have the same speed restrictions as motor vehicles?
malumbu replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Good heavens, all very repetitive. It would be good to have some new thoughts rather than the usual rhetoric. Just slagging off those who don't agree with your perspective doesn't encourage debate. -
Why did you not like it? the front bar kept some charm. And the back was the first gastro pub in SE23 at a time well before any sort of gentrification. As now witnessed by bistros, beer shops and coffee shops. Albeit always lagging behind LL

Two examples of pubs that have been trashed - the one by the cemetery with the stupid name on Forest Hill Road. Awful place, one of my least favourite pubs in the world. And the Dartmouth in Forest Hill, not stepped in since it became the Meet Licker. Yes another name I hate. Obviously others will disagree.... Two other pubs that were spoiled following the closure of the Young's brewery and breaking up the brewing and pub owning, the Dulwich Woodhouse and the Clock, not sure about the latter since the refurb. I go into three of the above every couple of years ago, trying to have an open mind but surprised that they were even worse than expected. Meanwhile lease is up at the Blythe and we are holding our breath and keeping our fingers crossed... Disagree with some on the EDT, when I first went to the comedy upstairs, downstairs was a little leary. Long time ago Well there is always the Castle 😊

Southwark consultation on Peckham gyratory

Yes, you needed to drive for work. That is not true for many journeys where you can use public transport, walk, cycle and for many now on office jobs, and even some on site, you don't need to travel at all and can meet remotely. This week I have cycled for work to Vauxhall and it is lovely as the private schools are off. No morning congestion around the Harvester. Even quieter next week when the state schools are off. Which always begs the question how many children really have to be driven to school That said I don't see any issues with displacement for this scheme. Do enlighten me why people will need to change their route. -

It looks great and I wish it had been put in place many years ago. A few car parking spaces lost, but there is a fair amount of parking in Peckham but why would you want to drive there? I'll be responding positively. I doubt whether there are rat runs, as most will have long since been blocked off. Colyton Road is a horrid road to drive down, unless you really have to. There is probably some anecdote about lazy dog walkers driving there to go round the Rye, rather than walking but no evidence. As so many seem to hate dogs in the Rye and park may be a good thing to introduce a CPZ on Colyton. -
Try Autotrader and a private purchase. Unless I am mistaken you cannot do a test drive at Car Giant, and the ones you buy on line and they deliver. Never done an auction, others may advise An ex Motorbility car can be a bargain, these have been returned at the end of the lease and I expect hould have been driven sensibly and properly maintained - again others may have views but an ex-colleague swore by them https://www.cmwcars.co.uk/ex-motability/

You will have to explain this one to me, it looks to be improving bus and bike journeys, which is a good thing. Traffic is always backed up the Rye during rush hour/term times, having used this route to commute for two decades by bike. I'd welcome safer bike journeys. I'll have a longer look later. -
Used to do the quiz at the CPT and there were red lights over the road. Building long since redeveloped. Unaware where the business relocated to. Others may know

Says who? There are some hard liners but they will not be running national government, or local authorities. Not sure why you exaggerate their influence. Most in sustainable transport policy will have exactly the same views as I have put forward. You will argue against every measure taken to go down this route, but have no answers.
-
Perhaps the car lobby could actually admit that they want the end to all restrictions and the banning of bikes. It's a bit silly making the accusations about so called cycle activists. I want safer, cleaner roads with less carbon emissions and a healthier population. Increased bike use and less driving is one part of this.

The thread is about the 'nuisance' of Lime bikes on LL. You have broadened it to talk about potential dangers. You don't like Lime bikes and are happy to go down some populist arguments in support of your views There will be a large number of Lime bike journeys without problem. This gives many convenience and cheap mobility. I have no idea of the relative dangers of hire bikes Vs push bikes Vs other forms of transport. All forms of transport carry risk, sadly some collisions leading to serious injuries and fatalities. We don't call to ban modes of transport every time there is a bad collision. You quote an article, but from my understanding this is not a definitive study. Ps just watching the 6 o'clock news and the story of a person sadly dying after a pop up urinal falling on them. Perhaps another cause you can get involved in

So how many people are killed or seriously injured on this cycle lane? No point in posting unsubstantiated claims.
-
You've lost me here, the thread is about nuisance parking of Lime bikes yet you know seem to want them banned because they are apparently dangerous. As the 'dangers' of Lime bikes have been compared in the article, to motorcycles, perhaps you want these banned too. Your next paragraph, mocking some of the arguments that focus should be on cars in terms of improving road safety, hardly encourages adult debate. As for the article, I'd already seen it. Some sensationalising of the situation, what I expect is unproven allegations against the choice of tyres, and no cause of injury ie rider error or other reason. If the former then training for Lime bike users may not be a bad thing. Something we would probably agree on,
