  1. Sunak's desperate attempt to get the motorist's vote had no great impact in the election, I expect that many diehard petrolheads had already switched to Reform Until Sunak every government since Blair had been committed to reducing dependency on the car, increasing active travel and improving the environment. To varying degrees of success.
  2. That because I work in transport. As I work in transport I know quite a lot about it. Not everything. But a lot. And I know people who can also tell me what is going on. And I have this massive resource of information at my finger tips. Called the internet. So I try to base my views on real information rather than perception. Rather than what somebody told me down the pub, or on X, or on Nextdoor.com, or someone interviewed in the street by the BBC, or the Daily Mail, or UnHerd.com, or a Jeremy Vine programme. I can't comment on LBC and only once spent five minutes on GB news. And I don't automatically believe everything in the Guardian, Radio 4 comedy, Have I Got News for You or Led by Donkeys even if the politics often aligns with mine It's just lazy to go straight to the stereo types about national and local government, and insulting to label most public and civil servants viewing them as biased, incompetent or ignorant (and the 'I know better'). And with the opportunity to ask questions through the official channels why so many instantaneously resort to social media rather than trying probing themselves.
  3. Cameras are placed where people may ignore rules eg cutting into the bus lanes to avoid stationary traffic. I see it fairly often. It is right to use cameras to enforce roads where drivers do not behave themselves. If you do not transgress, you do not pay. Simple. Speed cameras are a matter for the police, and tend to be at incident hot spots. It's sad that some of the speed cameras are not installed until there has been a death or serious injury. Southwark is no different to most London Boroughs, even Tory ones. Some go much further. The thread started with someone who was disappointed to get a penalty notice as they were unaware and didn't see the signage. I have sympathy having my own fair share of penalty notices - only one or two this millennium. It's gone the way of most of threads, a small hard core who repeat the same view, Southwark are crooks, and, often, cyclists are a menace.
  4. Rather than have a go at Southwark, contact them, they will employ at least one arborist who will know far more than most people on this site. Here's one: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shaun-murphy-morris-03b7b665/?originalSubdomain=uk
  5. I hope you had it marked on the bike register. Many stolen bikes end up on Gumtree (mine did) so check listings. https://www.gumtree.com/for-sale/sports-leisure-travel/bicycles/uk/srpsearch+condor if the listings is a copy and paste from the bike company website that is almost definitely stolen, or details are scant. When they talk about how long they had the bike, the sort of journeys, what they have done to maintain and improve it etc they will be genuine. I've got no advice on how to do a sting and get it back,
  6. You've said that Southwark is setting traps to catch drivers on school streets. I've presented data that shows that in recent years relatively few penalty notices are issued in Southwark in school streets. Am I right or wrong? Perhaps others can decide.
  7. You can submit a Freedom of Information request, It is quite easy. You insist on posting on your interpretation rather than seek information, or rely on selective publications that support your views.
  8. Dunno ask Southwark. It is easy to do a FOI request. I don't understand why you keep posting here rather than go through official channels. Tedious.
  9. Send a FOI request into Southwark to get their stats on such offences, I expect that they are relatively small. In fact a journo has and Southwark was one from the bottom of the list of London Boroughs being dwarfed by even some Tory boroughs I think that this shows it is best to do your research rather than the knee jerk they are all out to get me. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-11709425/London-motorists-stung-400-000-fines-driving-near-schools.html 2021 I(when I assume many were only recently introduced 622 A year later - word had got round 275
  10. Perhaps the various threads covering the same stuff can be amalgamated. This is becoming like groundhog day.
  11. F'kin hell, even for the Torygraph that is one nasty journo. They are obviously kowtowing to Trump, competing to be the ,51st state with Canada and Greenland.
  12. Gosh trees producing fruit, whatever next. You don't want to park under an elderflower when in fruit, if the fruit does get you the birds poo is purple.
  13. Cheers Ian, I was looking for these. Fascinating subject! Sorry forgot to add school streets to your compendium of Labour rip offs.
  14. Pretty repetitive on the transport section. I like a good discussion and this does raise wider issues. I miss banks more than post office branches which tend to be part of other stores. A few other threads on the Lounge, come on over. Or 🐕 💩
  15. Pollarded. Standard thing to do.
  16. You have posted this view on so many threads. Perhaps they should be amalgamated under the title Southwark money grabbing local authority, and at times TfL. That would cover bus lanes, CPZs, LTNs and the ULEZ in one. 😉 (not my view I had ten to add, as the discussion includes Lambeth at times maybe change the title to Labour boroughs)
  17. There are national standards for road signage, I'd expect you'd need to raise with your MP or Transport Secretary. Have a look through the attached https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2016/362/contents/made
  18. Contact Southwark and ask them to lower the signs including the cycle route. If nobody offers to do this I will.
  19. Jenrick saw an opportunity to take advantage. If he has implied that all Pakistani men behave like this then that is wrong, unnecessary, and stirs up community friction. I was commenting on a news channel GB news, not a group of people. What is wrong with that? I could comment about the the Guardian, but I would not label all people who read the Guardian as the same, and there are some who use media sources of contrasting positions to get a more balanced view. I wouldn't include GB news in that sense.
  20. I'd move out to the countryside. Only worry there is the fly tipping. https://viz.fandom.com/wiki/The_Parkie This bloke wouldn't stand for it. Can't find the cartoon where he 'dispatches' the hound
  21. We'll go on then rather than just talk about it on this forum. Up to you if you don't want to try all your councillors.
  22. I am quoting what a Tory SPAD said about Jenrick. I've not analysed Jenrick's exact words but it sounds like he is going down the GB News route which if true is rather sad. This was picked up by the media so you can follow this up - an article below, the Mail and Telegraph may have alternative takes. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/05/badenoch-defends-jenricks-remarks-about-people-from-alien-cultures I could stereotype and generalise about many cultures, races, nationalities and religions but I try not to. I'd rather hear in more detail from a Pakistani community leader and the like rather than a white privileged politician. https://mcb.org.uk/the-muslim-council-of-britain-calls-for-jenrick-to-be-sacked/
  23. They like the warmth of roads and pavements, they are quite common on car parks and school playgrounds.
  24. You have three councillors, by the time you have read and responded to this post you could have emailed them all, rather than pointing your finger at one. You could ask to meet them, invite them to your local society etc etc.
  25. Catch 22, if they said sorry you will need to pay more tax as the country is broke and we need to rebuild the economy, they may not have got in. And if they had raised taxes for those working they would have been roasted for not following their pledges.
