  1. What blight against Rocca ? Their offerings are poor quality. I do wish we had an equivalent to viet hoe cafe Shorditch in east dulwich, is broadway Market Vietnamese there all week?
  2. Very interesting... But fazer71 has got a point I thought rocca was really awful. So still not suggestions of anywhere to get a decent lunch around dulwich "east and village or near?" Maybe it's a hopeless request or maybe average to poor quality is what is accepted by locals?
  3. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I believe this school is costing ?30M to build and > open with the land provided free by Southwark > Council. That isn't a small amount of money or > land opportunity cost to me. IT is all part of the ongoing (I think since the mid 1950?s) State educational experiment; everything from the number of pupils in a class/school to syllabus changes every year/term. ?30,000,000 (30 million) is only the value of around 80 houses in a short Peckham street in the grand scheme not very much money at all. Or For the 750 pupils it equates to just ?1,000 for each pupil for each year over a conservative 40year life for the school. The biggest costs are the staff and running costs etc Should local councils be building of funding schools like Eaton Harrow or Dulwich College no, but they shouldn?t be shoehorning schools onto small sites either. Shouldn?t local authorities be looking at grander projects and look towards a grand plan. If they have then great. But it doesn?t look that way here. Edit as just read the thread " incident on east dulwich road (abuse from kids) " Harris academy girls mentioned. I?m having second thoughts about these kids even have windows at school. ;). What is going on with kids today.
  4. One thing is for sure if H+S say it's safe to have 1200 they will sardine them in right up to the full capacity. A bit like Sainsbury?s battling to build 20,000 sqm store only to expand it to 30,000 sqm a couple of years later. All the rules numbers and promises are there to be exceeded and broken. FACT The only reason this was given planning is because it saves in the short term the local authority money, money which they can spend on nice offices and a few extra council staff to shuffle paper around the nice new offices and achieve very little. This is a glowing example of local authority shortsightedness self serving (after all they won?t need to manage or maintain it). The sad thing is that doing this on the cheap means the kids will not have the facilities they could and should have. There is no though for 100 years from now just how can we pay the least and make it work for the next 10, These professionals think (we can knock it down and build something else and keep ourselves busy until our retirement). think about it Eaton Harrow Dulwich Colledge etc etc All been around for well over 100 years because they were build to last forever with plent of land. State schools knocked down and rebuild every 30 ? 50 years.

Don?t you think all pavements and roads should be brought up to modern standards and the quality of the works should be to a high standard? There is no reason for us to live with broken roads and rotten pavements it?s part of our environment and for the benefit of all of us it should be clean solid and pleasant. Personally I don?t fancy putting up with 3rd world surroundings. The only important bit it that we should pay the correct amount and the pavements should renewed in materials which can last say 60-100 years after all the Victorian pavements lasted at least that long and the road surfaces should last at least 40 years. I?ve nothing but respect for Mr Barber.
  6. I vote for underground sports fields dig the rye concrete it like a basement/car park, then cover it back over with the same turf etc. Not good for football but ok for track and field sports etc they could be bussed out to the near continent for team sports. I guess the general thinking was for dart throwing snooker playing weight lifting acrobats with abilities in dance as a sideline.
  7. IMHumbleO Every road in the borough should be resurfaced the whole borough is long overdue these works. My concern would be the quality of the contractors work. It appears the depth of tarmac on some roads was laid so thin it is amazing that it has lasted as long as it has only thanks to some very mild winters. I do hope that the works are fully inspected by the council and we get what we are paying for. Does the council have the equipment and the desire to check the quality of the work? We all know how corrupt the council tender process is for issuing these contracts and there are only a few companies who are competent in this area it?s pretty much guaranteed work what a pity we don?t get a guarantee on the quality of the works. My guess is we all pay double what we should we should, at least deserve a propper job, but it looks like we get a rotten deal. Let?s see how long these surfaces last. Just until the next election is my guess.
  8. The Academy ?Coop? LMAO. 900 Battery Children cooped up in the Harris Academy. Dulwich College has playing fields in abundance and the poor sporty kids of South London have the Harris Academy. Southwark?s brilliant Planning system. If they had any sense they would compulsory purchase industrial land around Burgess Park reclaim the land for sports fields and build an academy there. No one would miss the industrial units. But NO let?s squeeze it in next to Peckham rye? The site of the Harris academy should have been retirement flats freeing up some of the boroughs large housing stock which is occupied by OAPs holding back family housing. The Southwark PLAN Like many local council plans is a JOKE! Short sighted and as always falls way short of benefiting the boroughs residents in a humane way. THE BATTER EDUCATION SYSTEM IS HERE! No virtual tour required.
  9. I don't know for sure that's why I used the word "possibly". POSSIBLY! In TV interviews on the day of the accident many who were interviewed said drivers had become frustrated at the delays due to the road works and there was some mention of the driver possibly jumping the temporary lights. Only the Police will know. Whatever your view. The general view shown by statistics is that the highways are more dangerous on stretches where roadwork?s are taking place. We all know People are killed every day on the roads. You?re just stating the obvious! My comments on this thread are about what should have been done ie the temporary one-way system and what should be done in the future ie the introduction of HUMANS at such road works during the school rush hour to help kids cross in safety. AND also I hope to. To keep the Politicians FOCUSED on NOW and Safety and NOT dream into the techno future and lollying us of with excuses!
  10. skidmarks Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Err no. You're taking this thread in a stupid direction. If you didn't realise. It's about a little girl who died because a driver possibly frustrated by the road works didn't see her crossing and she didn't see him and she wasn't protected by a crossing or other help, due to road works which were not happening! A very sad loss of a young life.
  11. Your photo of truly stupid people! In the USA (apparently the most right wing country in the world ie no nanny state allowed) this would be called Jay walking and against the law! Fact remains the Government and Local Government in the UK has a duty of care, which means they should wherever possible they should look after the safety of the citizens. As any idiot would realise that road users should be kept safe wherever possible especially Children going to School. I guess you are just being obtuse?
  12. JBARBER Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > With respect to the collission site and temporary > lights not having pedestrian phasing. From the above. I can see NOTHING has been learnt!!!!! ?Type approved temporary pedestrian crossings? Just another layer of complication where common sense should prevail. The lessons to be learnt are 1 The roads works at such junctions should be carried out wherever possible at weekends and or holidays. 2 They should be carried out as quickly as possible. 3 They should NOT be left in place for days / weeks on end whilst the utility Co?s faf about deciding when to bother turning up to carry out the works. 4 If there is absolutely no other choice but to carry out the works during weekdays / school days, there should be a police presence at the contra flow during the school rush hours. In this particular instance as I have said before there was a FAR FAR safer option which was to implement a one way system and so avoid the danger of the contra flow altogether as even with the lights left to run as usual there would have been much less disruption and danger to all road users. The excuse that there is no suitable high cost technical solution ?which could fail!? is such a pathetic cop out. Please keep Southwarks safety teams responsible and focused on the realities of real life and real life solutions. I for one will not be taken for a fool I hate to listen to such utter nonsense especially where human life is at risk. You are correct where you state it?s a national issue, it is absolutely. A Nation where layer upon layer of complication comes before common sense and a Nation where road works stand idle causing inconvenience and danger for all. So please pretty please out of respect for the dead little girl and her family forget about some future technical costly solution, there are simpler more practical lower cost robust solutions, which can be implemented NOW. If you focus on that reality of NOW you will be doing us all a favour!
  13. We all know the only departments which are 1/2 competent at Southwark council are Council Tax (collection). & Parking Enforcement. To the long long list of incompetent ones we can now add the southwark Highway dept safety team. Who spend all day warm in their offices looking at plans to put shed?s and extensions in back gardens. If there was a way Southwark could charge us for safe, clutter free, road work free, easy flowing, speed bump free, roads they would! BUT as they can?t we have to put up with dangerous, slow, filthy roads. SHAME on you SOUTHWARK !!!

So the intention was to leave the contra flow in place until such time as Thames Water had the time to get around to doing their couple of days worth of work ? What UTTER Nonsense !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this why we see roadworks unatended for weeks on end whilst we all wait for thames water british gas or edf to BOTHER to turn up and do their work? I am now even more disgusted in the mangement incompetence of the works which have and are being carried out on peckham rye. WHAT DO THE SOUTHWARK TEAM DO ALLLLLLLL DAY ????????
  15. I am terribly upset by the death of this little girl, every time I drive past I just feel so terribly sad and tearful. I am so angry as it appears the unnecessarily slow road works along with a ridiculous contra flow system were a major contributory factor. The contra flow was stupidly dangerous over complicated and slow and frustrating for everyone. It would have been far far simpler to have implemented a one way system going North towards Peckham along the west side of Peckham Rye and then back South along the East side of Peckham Rye. SIMPLE! I find it laughable that many road works are carried out in the name of safety, yet little thought goes into the safety whilst the safety improvements are being carried out. Though that is not the case here as it was gas works. Remember the works at the goose green roundabout? It?s a miracle that no one was killed or seriously injured during that slow tortuous process. Though there can be no justice for the unnecessary loss of this little girls life, making the roads safer in the future the very minimum the following actions would help us all in the future. 1. The contractor should be removed from the council contractor scheme for 12 months and fined for neglect. (Such tough action would in future force them to speed up works at such vital dangerous junctions or rethink their systems). 2. The council department responsible for the permits and road safety should be investigated, as there was a clear failure in their ability to permit a safe contra flow solution. No Question there was a complete common sense failure in this department. Maybe some heads should roll?
  16. Modern women the pace of modern life and the web leave affected men these options to avoid frustration 1. Pay for sex. 2. Become a Homosexual 3. Become a pervert / pedo etc 4. Self indulge 5. Go and have a fight at a football ground in the street or in another country. In our Pernicious British society. Frustration results in perversion and anger. Figures not available but it is obvious just ask around. What has happened to charm beauty elegance and love? Replaced by nuts mag online porn hookers and perversion. Mr Administrator Following your PM this is my last post I?m starting to feel like the Wicker Man on East Dulwich Island. Tata Horsebox Are you trying to make ?Horsebox? another simple term for Bearded Clam? I guess your real name starts with T and rhymes with HAT.

  18. Figures showing. ?The number of knife deaths in areas targeted by an anti-knife crime scheme has risen? Marion Fitzgerald, of the University of Kent. Interviewed on BBC news. GOD HELP US. She hasn?t got a clue! When asked what should be done she couldn?t give a straight answer. WE all know stop and search has NOT increased! Regardless of the figures. I am disgusted that these so called Professors like ?Marion Fitzgerald? ?Clueless individuals who have their heads in books rather than being out on the streets? are taking our money and diverting attention away from the things which need to be done short term, How many parents of dead kids do we have to listen to before the police actually target these knife-carrying kids? Professor Marion Fitzgerald doesn?t give a damn so long as she gets to appear on the BBC and is paid by US to write her books. Clueless self-serving dreamer with no idea what of what would work silly silly Professor. Finger crossed it?ll go away ?? How many stabbing are not being reported.! But these figure don?t mean a thing until kids realise carrying knives is against the law it?ll never go away.

Some amachaaa photographer will inform us it?s the ?genou technique? or similar french covert photographic speciality. Bizarrely the French are happy for their kids to be photographed almost anywhere at anytime without fear of perverted thoughts and perversion overtaking their world.
  20. reetpetite Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ban public? That might be a little difficult. What exactly are you trying to say? Are you trying to say, ?Ban the public?? If so unfortunately that is not possible. Banning silly busybodies, overly protective parents and mysterious old men with cameras also not possible.
  21. TLF could compulsory purchase houses shops whatever they needed to create proper bus stops. Most roads have very very long bus stops anyway ?though they call them bus lanes?. They could wait on these. I don?t see why they can?t have proper systems satnav computer based to make buses run to a schedule timetable. This is about Nigel he is so obviously stressed with the work getting home and dealing with people. TFL need to help Nigel and his mates. Also Why not give NIGEL an Electric bus limited speed of 30mph and cables overhead, which would stop him driving like a loony, would also be green maybe it?s the diesel fumes driving him and other londoners nuts.
  22. Ban all photography in public places! Ban all cameras in public places! Ban all old men in public places! Ban public places. Ban public events. I wonder Whilst ?They walked him home and told him not to go back to the festival.? What crimes were being committed? Maybe the crime of dressing kids like teenagers? Dressing children MJ style ?masks etc? maybe the only solution. I can see a fortune to be made out of such clothing would do a cracking business on LL. The kid mask shops anyone. Would that be ironic?
  23. Those black drivers who work full time make 50k plus. But most of them are not working full time they only do half days/time the other half they play golf or take a few months off and go to Spain or Thailand.
