What would be ironic would be a ?250,000 flat with 10 million quids worth of antique furniture where the owner was broke and he / she didn't know it was worth squillions. That would be ironic. Yes I know nothing better to do with my time too.

I see your point. but bla bla bla bla bla lalalalalalalalalalalalal would be a more concise rounded retort. More fun too.
  3. SIMPLE reason!!!!! ON Google. Search for anything remotely to do with east dulwich or not and you end up with a link to this forum. Like ( plough diy ) it works for ( dulwich sushi ) too. 4th row down at worst and you get eastdulwich forum link. NOTE you don't get west dulwich of dulwich village returned in the searches. Does the site have some kind of deal with Google.? ;)

I see like Wonkeys Chinese in Soho or that Indian on Queensway. Been once will never go again! So I'll still be avoiding the dog like the plague. Magnolia seems to be too fast on the service other extreme, but it doesn?t make the pints taste any better. Which is a real pity !
  6. Would it be possible to have the most recent post first rather than last ?
  7. The Crown and greyhound in Dulwich Village. (THE DOG) Dreadful service!! The staff never have a clue who?s next in line for a pint and they?re always busy out the back fannying about with a box or just skiving! This IMO makes the Pints taste awfullllllll.
  8. Cor a right sad bunch of comments on here! Envy and desire all mixed up you sad foolish1?s. Who gives a damn! The market will find its price in terms of affordability need and that?s how it?s been since the beginning of time. What is this East Dulwich Socialist central! I am truly saddened by the visible lack of shame this kind of thread does nothing but drag us all down. Shame on you all! Busy Busy bodies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Achieving absolutly NOTHING!

Unfortunately there seems to a belief > from some that families over-ride all other groups > in terms of what happens to an area - they don't. I agree 100% especially about the half-wits Efforts to appease the locals end up messing with our legal rights! If anyone wants a real family area they could move out to Bromley or Tunbridge. Fulham was once a Family area; time moves on and areas change with changes in demand and supply. What is happening now is that because of the Internet and email it is increasingly easy to object to a planning application. This is causing more and more planning proposals to end up at the local Committee where the half-wits are rampant. The Planners are increasingly forced to stand aside as emotion takes hold and rights are sidelined which takes time and money, which impacts us all. Well all except the planning specialists and the half-wits who end up circling like vultures around the most minor details of straightforward planning applications.

The right mix should be a balance of letting the market demand direct and restriction on real requirements. The intensity of housing in London is LOW. Planning has become a political issue as per my previous post many so-called professionals are benefiting from the confusion and polaitical gesturing, which has become part of the planning system. How can it be right that individuals spend tens of thousands of pounds on professional and legal fees? For a loft or extension which would cost the same to build? Where often the planning allowance would permit such development? The SYSTEM is costing us all financially and restricting our benefiting from satisfactory housing for the majority to the benefit of the few. I?m no Socialist I?m a ?Realist? and from what I can see of the development and the planning system in the UK and London is very much geared to serve the planners architects and those who have more rights than they deserve! Since the 60?s and 70?s political effluence has be at the heart of sub standard housing it would appear that the Labour council investment over those years was geared to keeping many living in poor quality cheap housing in order to keep them voting for Labour and NOW Today we are seeing the same Political effluence directed towards every minor extension and conversion. IT IS a disgrace! Whilst the NIMBY few crow on about XYZ (minor development next-door) the Political gesturing goes about messing with the already set planning allowances blurring the rights and requirements of the rest of us. We should all be Disgusted and angry. We may not realise but the lack of quality housing is a major factor in low living standards, which result in general stress levels and anger in our daily lives. Giving rights to determine planning to a FEW neighbours and political wan bees is NOT good for any of us!

That is exactly why I am Angry and Frustrated! I don?t believe anyone should be living in cramped conditions. If the existing planning was implemented correctly then we would not have such long waiting lists. Antijen what are you going on about ?????
  12. I don't think I'm blinkered I can see lots of large houses inhabited by just one person and plenty more with just two! I'll never shave my beard! I am a realist there is a shortage of good quality homes for people to live in! Who gives a Damn about car parking! Next you?ll be putting Pigs and Sheep over People whoops sorry we already do that? Pigs and Sheep live in beautiful countryside with nice new housing regulated by the RSPCA. Whilst we humans live in unsuitable small noisy housing where we are more worried about spoiling the already rotten view by restricting loft conversions and extensions. WHY? Because foolish selfish shortsighted individuals moan and groan about planning issues which they have no business getting involved in! AND because many professionals benefit from the confusion a political gesturing which keeps many incompetent so called proffesional specialists employed. RATHER than use common sense and build renovate and improve what we have we waste time money and effort keeping the few happy whilst the many suffer!
  13. The intensity of housing in London is far lower than in many other European cities mostly due to poor historical planning the tens of thousand Victorian terrace houses, which we all enjoy, are incredible inefficient use of land. Paris as an example benefits from The Haussmann Renovations commissioned by Napoleon III carried out by Haussmann between 1852 and 1870. Haussmann created a layout and more intense use of land whilst still making an incredibly beautiful city though it lacks the open spaces and gardens we enjoy in London. I find it amusing that Londoners complain of overcrowding, its complete nonsense! If new developments on Brown field sites were set out in the Haussmann courtyard style we would have a far better use of land that together with underground parking below such U shaped layouts would be a better way forward. Unfortunately no Body or Developer will go this route because the planning system is not favourable or requiring this type of development. Meanwhile we need to make the best of what we have. Which is why the government has changed the planning allowances (not far enough or well enough in may opinions). The number of 4 and 5 bed houses occupied by just one or two people where conversion would allow three to nine people to live would go a long way to increasing sustainable use of the houses we already have. Bins and parking are the least of our worries, good quality suitable housing are of far more importance. Especially when we in London (even after this brown field development) will still enjoy excellent open spaces and gardens, which would not be affected by such development.
  14. I was just looking at the forum for flat conversions and this thread came up. With the parking what most of us forget is that the council own the parking spaces out on the road the only way to guarantee a parking space is to have off street parking. I?m very attached to my car too. I thought some of the comments regarding conversions were rather Na?ve. As I mentioned the Council do have a limit on size, which is set to save family homes only houses which are bigger are allowed conversion.
  15. The Government (and the general population i.e. You and I) are behind Brown field redevelopment, which includes conversion of houses into flats. If one thinks about it it does make a lot of sense one house converted into 2 2 bed or 1 2 bed and 2 1 beds etc is a far better use of available space than its use as one house. The immediate and expected future demand is for more units not bigger units Families are getting smaller not bigger, and the need for three bed properties is getting lower. Loss of Parking is not a factor as the government is happy for a move away from cars to public transport bicycles etc All Councils have a size standard, which is set to retain family homes; houses less than a certain size are refused conversion. The Government has also increased the requirement for sound proofing which means that any houses converted into flats today are far for better in terms of sound transfer than the old conversions of the 60?s and 70?s which most of use are familiar with. Overall conversion of Large houses into flats make a lot of sense for the above reasons together with the environmental reasons (new build rather than conversion creates huge amounts of Co2 due to concrete for foundations etc etc) conversion is far more environmentally friendly. NIMBY?ism and a lack of understanding is causing delays in the planning system which is causing all of us by delaying the process and so adding to the overall cost of housing. Being in a conservation area makes little difference as the same rules tend to apply it?s probably in all our interests that the process is allowed to proceed as rapidly a possible so the general population sees the benefits of higher quality sustainable homes. This is the downside of living in one of the world?s most popular Cities, which has a growing population.
  16. Not surprised if it fell through at that price! You can get a house in Dulwich Village for that with a proper garden and views from the windows too. Mind there are people who will buy any old rubbish if it's been on telly!
