  1. I'd second the Turkish place next to Chener Books...I'd rather go there than Sommerfield
  2. Conceived to Abba - Take a chance on me Born to Rod Stewart - Do ya think I'm sexy
  3. On the subject of adverts that get me really cross... - The one with people claiming to be PCs, especially the new ones with young children...no you're not, you're a human being which is far preferrable. - Lloyd Grossman trying out his bolognese sauce in Bologna. The people are clearly all actors who smile falsely and never even offer an opinion on his sauce. I have to leave the room when they come on to stop myself arguing with the TV.
  4. Workmen/builders who start the day with their noisiest task. And I swear if they've got a noisy task to do, they come in extra early to start it.
  5. What sort of chips come with the steak? Are they chunky or French-style frites? My French OH is dying to find somewhere to get his steak frites fix.
  6. I agree with Louisa...the flowers are there for everyone to enjoy, not a few to take home. A couple here and there isn't a problem but from my window I saw a couple of girls walk off with a large bunch each.
  7. Jeremy describes it well. Our service isn't perfect but it certainly sounds a lot better than the one you're used to.
  8. My card details were used fraudulently towards the end of last year. I use neither the supermarket in question nor the garage. So it can happen anywhere. The main thing is to take common sense steps when using your card and check your account regularly so you can catch it asap if it happens to you.
  9. Yep that was good, Moos. Feeling rather sorry for myself after being one of those who landed painfully on their arse this morning...so that gave me a good chuckle. :-)
  10. Well I turned 30 last year. I still feel pretty junior at work, I'm living with someone but not married and no children. I don't have any amazing skill or hobby. No stories of interesting world travels. Weigh far more than I'd like to. Not particularly fit. But on turning 30 I feel a renewed confidence in myself...I don't have to worry about being cool, fashionable, thin etc, etc. I can just enjoy myself and not worry what everyone else thinks. Personally I think getting older is great as it seems you finally start to feel comfortable in your own skin. :-)
  11. I've always though the same. But reading that reminded me to check my online banking. Saw a payment for ?14.20 that I didn't recognise. Gave them a ring and there's thousands in the process of being authorised...well it's not being authorised any more! It's on my credit card so it's their problem anyway...but thanks for the reminder!
  12. A cyclist hitting a pedestrian hurts...I know I've had the bruises. But it is only bruises or if unlucky, a broken bone. That's a lot less than a car hitting a cyclist.
  13. Very true. I used to very occasionally use little stretches of pavement when cycling before my bike got nicked. For example, cycling over Kew Bridge...nice wide pavement where you can not endanger pedestirans, near death experience by road. For the most part I do think cyclists should stick to roads, it does annoy me being nearly knocked down by inconsiderate cyclists. But introducing fines would mean common sense couldn't be used when it really is just common sense and courtesy.

Maybe you could enforce traffic rules on prams, then you'd get junction practice and everything...
  15. So if you aren't a very good cyclist, you shouldn't be on a bike. So how to you practise to become a good cyclist? There are some places where pavements are hardly used and cycling on them makes life easier and safer for cyclists and motorists. But in others, like Lordship Lane, cyclists on pavements are dangerous. Surely the best thing is a little bit of common sense.
  16. Kew is east of Heathrow too...so if they fly over us, they fly over Kew too but even lower. There was a lovely 5am flight on Sunday morning that roused me. But actually, I'd been thinking it had been quieter recently?
  17. Just managed to get my hands on a Wii Fit. :))
  18. Really, really, really, you don't want permits. They actually reduce the amount or available parking. And stretch of kerb that might be long enough for a small car but not long enough for a regulation gets a yellow line. Then any tiny mistake and you get fines and worse. I once left my little car legitimately on such a yellow line in a quiet residential street one evening, forgot about it the next day, had my car towed and the whole incident ended up costing me ?500. Really, really, you don't want permits. But katybenno, you do have my sympathy. I can imagine it's really annoying. But it will go away eventually.
  19. I've got mt sister and her boyfriend coming to stay this weekend. We're out and about during the day. But in the name of the credit crunch, we're planning to stay in. So I was thinking of buying a new Wii game to keep us amused...what would people recommend? (I've already got Mario Kart, Sports and Play and can't get hold of Wii Fit)
  20. The roadworks have been fairly epic and inconvenient throughout their journey down Lordship Lane. However, the difference now is that they have closed a major junction for 6 weeks (from the signs I've seen) and redirected all the traffic down a resendential street. It hasn't affected me but I do feel sorry for the residents of Melbourne Grove. But they do need to be done so I think it's a case of grinning and bearing it for the greater good.
