  1. 9/11 I was in Greece. Walking back from the beach I wondered why there were so many people crowded around the tv in the tavernas but presumed it must be footbal or soemthing. Called home later on with flight details and got a shrot synopsis before my phonecard ran out. It was another couple of days before the English papers arrived and we got a full report.
  2. Ladymuck...what exactly were they going to fine you for? You might have been acting suspiciously but I can't see that you actually did anything wrong.
  3. I've had occasion where I asked for money and none came out. That was immediately recredited to my account. But another time (more relevant to the OP) a machine snatched back some of the notes as I took it out. In that case the full amount was still debited from my account. However I filled out a form and they matched it with the cashing up of the machine and then credited it back to me. So try getting in contact with the bank. Their cash machine may be ?100 up at the end of today.
  4. Oh I hope I haven't got anyone in trouble! I was just after understanding the ticket rules. But that's very helpful if I can buy tickets back to ED...it's a lot quicker at London Bridge if you've got your tickets already bought. Thanks for the information. :-)
  5. Hi Barry, yes I was trying to buy this ticket from ED.
  6. Barry, Another ticket question. On Saturday I was going to St Pancras catch the Eurostar and coming back Sunday. I was able to buy a single to get up there and hoped to be able to buy a single to get back the next day but that wasn't possible. I have been able to do this sort of thing before at London Bridge when catching a train out into Kent. Is it because London Bridge is a main ticket office or is the problem that the journey back from St Pancras meant using the tube first? I hope that makes sense... But generally another satisfied customer...East Dulwich station is noticeably improving!
  7. How long have you had your Oyster card? I've had one wear out. It would work at stations but stopped working on buses. When I took it to a ticket office apparently it was giving a very weak signal and the guy changed it for a new one.
  8. Ah-ha. The mystery of the direct trains. In the morning there's direct trains at around 7.15, 7.45 and 8.15. And there's 3 direct trains back in the evening...the first one leaves Wimbledon around 6.10. If you're going at any other time, just change trains at Tulse Hill. Just make sure you don't get on a train going the long way round the loop to Wimbledon.
  9. How much is the monthly season ticket to London Bridge?
  10. Hi Anna, I've just started doing some grow your own so here are my answers... > Have you ever thought about growing food at home? Yes, finally bought some tomato plants a couple of weeks back. May try other things in the future if this is successful > What would get you started to grow your own? N/A > What's holding you back? I always worried that I'd just kill them as I do with most normal plants...mainly by forgetting to water them. As they're outside, it'd be even easier to forget. The other issue is location. We do have some outdoor space but walls around it mean it only gets about half the days sun. > Why would or wouldn't it work for you to grow some > food at home? See previous answer > What's your experience if you are growing food at > home? What got you started? Just started. Finally decided to give it a go. Looking forward to seeing some results in a few months. > What general implications do you feel growing food > holds/would hold for you? I'm hoping to have a good supply of tomatos that should taste better than the mass produced supermarket ones. > If you have young kids, would you try and explain > food to them by growing some (or have already done > so)? No kids so N/A Good luck with your project
  11. The quote from one of the fathers on the front of this mornings Metro brought a tear to my eye. It's a horrific case. But I'm against capital punishment. As said before, you can't kill someone to prove that killing is wrong and there's always a chance of executing someone innocent. In addition, the attitude of murderers has been reported as so inhumane that I don't believe the threat of execution would have deterred them in the slightest.

  14. Hmmm...I guess if he heads down there with some ID he should be fine then.
  15. I've received my polling card but my other half hasn't. I know he's registered to vote at our address. He is French but I'm sure he's entitled to vote for this. Should he just head to the polling station with me?

Just sent off for my Muse presale code. The reply says the presale starts at 9am on Friday.
  17. Feeling 'crushed and devalued' on the train after the one I tried to catch was cancelled.
  18. Emily, why don't you pop in and ask where your clothes have gone...

  20. Reading through, I was looking forward to saying Jo Brand and Virginia Wade...but jollybaby got there first. At least I can add those twins to my list!
  21. There's all sorts of things that used to go on...but they're quite strictly tested for drink and drugs these days.
  22. It might be useful to know that there's a screen down by platforms 14, 15 and 16. So I head straight down there and check out the correct platform down there. But quite often the screen at the end of the platforms already show where the train is going to next.
  23. Rather more my fashion faux-pas than a fashion weakness, mine has to be my favourite Billabong hoodie. I don't care how often my family and boyfriend round on me telling me I'm too old, I'm "supposed" to be a woman, I've never been even slightly street with my Home Counties accent, it's terrible for my shape, it's ugly etc, etc, etc. It's mine and it's so soft on the inside...
