  1. Another vote for screens. They'd be most useful.
  2. Well the TfL pricing lists seem to make sense but I can't work it out. I've been going to Canary Wharf for a day or two each week recently. It's all at peak rate. And the following shows up on my journey history: Out: ED to LB ?2.10 LB to CW ?1.10 Back: CW to LB ?2.30 LB to ED ?1.10 Well I'm completely lost. But it costs less than I thought it would...and doesn't reach the daily cap.
  3. Wow, thanks Barry. You're just too efficient!
  4. It might be helpful to have an Oystercard reader on the platforms...that way people can come up and check the screens before swiping in...and forgetful people like me wouldn't have so far to go back when they forget to swipe in!
  5. Be slightly careful of the internet though. My consultant advised me not to look too much as it's mostly the people who don't get on with it who post online. And he was right. Those of us who've got our lives back are far too busy having fun all month long! (P.S. Curlykaren, I'm happy to tell you more of my experience over PM if you still want to know more)
  6. Another thank you. Just printed it out for me and the other half.
  7. A third for Mirena. Really it's quite brilliant.
  8. A colleague packed hers into a hand luggage sized suitcase. Then she hung it in a steamy bathroom and any creases just dropped out.

    Great Gigs

Thank you giggirl! I've now happily bought some presale tickets.
  10. Definitely add more experienced drivers. I had my parents as named drivers on my insurance for years and it reduced my premiums. Companies I used as a younger driver were Privilege and Elephant. I don't whether they are still good value. Recently my mu tried to add me to her car insurance and was quoted an extra ?195. Given that I'm in my 30s and the car is a only 1.4, this seemed rather high. But according to her insurance company, it's the 3rd named driver that has all the accidents!
  11. Yes you have to scan a credit/debit card as a deposit. I think the idea is that there are plenty of bike stands. You take it out at one stand and cycle to another and dock there. So used like that, theft isn't really a problem. London will undoubtably present more challenges. But I'm in agreement with omnipresent. It would be great if it's a success. It can work really well and be very convenient. And perhaps if it takes off enough, London may become a little more cycle friendly for novices like me.
  12. I've used a similar scheme in Montreal. It worked really well there and meant that we only used the metro once. The weather was warm and it was great to fly around above ground and I think it worked out to be cheaper than the metro anyway. But Montreal is a smaller city and for the most part has a grid system so it's easier to navigate. And the roads are much wider with big wide cycle lanes. I'm a fairly unsure cyclist but there all these things meant it was easy just to take it at my own pace, not getting in the way of other cyclists or being squashed by cars and trucks. And we were tourists so we were staying and travelling fairly centrally where bikes were available. I'm not sure how much use the bikes were to people living further out like us in East Dulwich.
  13. Hi Barry, Thanks for the information about the strikes. At least we can try and plan around them. By the way, the display screen on the London Bridge bound platform seems to have a fault at the moment making it unreadable. If it needs replacing, it would be great if it was set further forward towards the platform. Like many others, I can't see it from certain parts of the platform.
  14. Do press ahead with ringing Oyster. They gave me my money back plus ?2 for my troubles. They also told me to go back to the station where I had added the OEP, for me Canary Wharf. I went up to the machines and pressed my card against it and there was the option to remove the OEP. Somewhere earlier in this thread, someone said they travelled without an OEP to somewhere outside their travelcard zones. Apparently it worked just fine and deducted the correct amount of PAYG. Moral of the story...just don't bother with the OEP.
  15. I was a bit disappointed by Alice in Wonderland to be honest. It just felt like too much had been played with. But maybe I'd gotten myself too excited beforehand for it to live up to my expectations. However, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen were both brilliant. P.S. I think you're allowed to keep the glasses. It was 50p cheaper to get reusing glasses from a previous 3D film watching.
  16. One thing I have discovered...as soon as you add an OEP, your Oystercard behaves like a PAYG. So a cash fare is taken off as you enter. If you have a travelcard loaded and travel within your zones, you need to make sure you touch out at the end of that journey to have that refunded.
  17. Hmmmm, I just did this with dual screens at work. The left screen was turned 90deg left and the right one 90deg right. It took me a good 15 minutes to work how to get both straight again! At least I managed to sort it out without calling IT...

    Ask Admin

Ah, ok. I'd read your previous message as meaning threads that hadn't been touched for over 6 months had been deleted. Ah well, I guess it leaves the opportunity for more up to date information to be posted. And it is good having a speedier forum. Thank you :)

    Ask Admin

Hi Admin, There used to be a thread called East Dulwich Weddings. I was going to point a friend to it for information but I can't find it anymore. I posted on it about a month ago so I've searched through my own messages as well as using the Search facility. But it seems to have disappeared. Has it been deleted?
  20. Hmmm, that's a shame it's not so convenient to use. I liked the idea of having 2 separate Oyster cards. I'm wondering though, if I feign ignorance and travel without an OEP is it just that I might encounter a ticket inspector or will some extra charge be taken from my Oyster PAYG? It sounds like no-one knows yet. I suspect it might take the full cash fare to penalise you. So people who don't know about OEPs will complain and be told about the existance of OEPs. And eventually like that people will come to know about them.
  21. And what happens if you travel outside of your travelcard zones with PAYG but don't have an OEP on your card? I was looking forward to using Oyster PAYG at weekends for journeys outside my usual commute. But needing to get these OEPs seem to cancel out any added convenience.

Agreed that the majority of French are catholic. Just giving a little information on how France is able to legislate on religous dress and symbols in a way that the UK can't. For my own personal opinion, I'm not keen on burkas at all. As woman, it feels repressive. But is it right to ban them? I'm not sure.
  24. Finally watched In The Loop based on the recommendation here. Thanks guys, it was hilarious. Although my other half found it funny, he didn't think a lot happened as such...I told him that was rather rich coming from a Frenchman!
