  1. I remember last Hollowe'en me and the missus got in loads of sweets expecting waves of trick-or-treating little uns. Didn't get a single one a-knockin'. Had to eat all the sweets myself. Bugger. :))

I still go for a gurn every now and again (but I am too young for the second summer of love, first-time around rave scene, etc.)

  5. I still scoff down sweets like there's nae morra ... I've just eaten a huge packet of jelly beans and now i feel sick ...

  8. Ultraconsultancy - there's an interesting snippet in this week's Private Eye books section about how much publishers are charging for novella-length (ie about 200 pages) hardbacks. Of course the rouse is that the chains can offer a whopping discount but still take a healthy margin, while indies are lumbered with shifting units full-price.
  9. Nero - I have a scruffy olive green blazer I wear sometimes, though it makes me look like a young university history/philosophy lecturer (I guess that's my ambition though!)

Cufflinks are some old relics my ex-missus's Dad gave me: made of gold and with South African Tiger's Eyey stones.

Being in the meejah I don't have to wear a suit for work except if I;m out to lunch or meeting with someone - but it is nice now and again to dust off the old two-piece.

Indeed, if you'd be so kind sir! Is it the one with the introduction by Anthony Beevor? L&F is another book I've been meaning to read for a while, but ain't got round to yet (see Proust, etc.).
  13. Mr Ben - I was going to be in the 72 tomorrow night anyways and I shall indeed e suited and booted

It was the tailored suit what did it in the 72, Mr Ben ... bog-standard M&S off-the-peg, nae bother. :)) I too see the proliferation of suits in ED but it ain't necessarily a bad thing. Perversely, by thinking that a suit gives off a negative impression of yourself, you are actually reinforcing the very stereotypes (ie you must be a city boy, Tory voter etc.) that you want to cast off. In fact, if you think about it, what could be more individual than just waering a suit because, well, it's a suit, and my clothes don't really need to say anything about me. I sometimes wear a suit and I'm an anarchist. I've even worn one a few times in the 72. I don't really care if someone thinks I'm a Tory.
  15. Takin' you back to Studio 54, it's gotta be Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" It's the the blissed-out, snow-blind vocals and the Giorgio Moroder synths what do it for me ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I6iLzj4bYE
  16. Well, Collins and Dion make me cry :'( [albeit for reasons they probably never intended!>:D< ]

I am inclined to agree. There's nothing more fun than having a boogie - I dance on my own in my living room quite often (blinds closed of course!) and there's nowt wrong wi' it!
  18. Ooh, good thread! There are a few trakcs that make me want to dance, regardless of what state I am in: Poney Part 1 by Vitalic Hustler by Simian Mobile Disco [EDIT - vid for this is a bit saucy]
  19. I've yet to see the eagle, Alan! There's so much cool stuff [EDIT: no pun intended] in there - I mean, they have a stuffed turtle ... how do you stuff a turtle? ED defo needs a taxidermy shop! Post-pub entertainment at its best.
  20. The one thing Islington has that East Dulwich doens't have is Get Stuffed. For those who don't know, Get Stuffed is a taxidermy shop on Essex Road full of wierd and wonderful things. An Islingtonian friend sent me a text today. Get Stuffed now have a polar bear and penguins! I think ED needs a taxidermy shop just to compete. Anyone interested?
  21. Oh yeah, I do like Andrew Bird! :) Got his album, The Mysterious Production of Eggs, somewhere at home. Funny, never seen what he looks like. I thought he might be fatter and more bald ...
  22. Yeah, he's alright. I am normally a bit dubious about some of the more recent singer-songwriter types, but I liked the atmosphere on his Veneer record and he did a good job with Heartbeats, too.
  23. Yeah - f-ing brilliant track. The Knife also wrote the song "Heartbeats", which was covered by Jose Gonzalez and used in that TV advert with the bouncing balls. EDIT: Linky
  24. close - the drag queen is Sweden's most famous. Can't remember her/his name but shouldn't be too hard to find on t'Net. The Knife are actually brother and sister Olof and Karin Drejer. The brother is the one who dances with the tranny. Karin is the one sat down at the end of the vid. She also did vocals on Royksopp's "What Else is There?" - so there's the connection!
  25. One of my favourite videos (and a cracking song to boot) The Kinfe - Pass this on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y33pYz8Pxo
