  1. I think if you park your bike where there are lots of other bikes you should be OK. Obviously you can take some precautions to tilt the odds in your favour but I think it is pretty random unless you have a flashy bike being stolen to order. I've left my ordinary bike in the street outside Kennington station for a week with a crappy D-lock and it was still there when I returned. On the other hand I left it for one night inside Herne Hill station in front of a CCTV camera and the next day the front wheel was gone.
  2. I'm not saying he is legit or not, but when I worked on the bins one of our team would go out in the middle of the night & pull all the bins into the road. We would clock in for him & he spent the day in bed.

  4. Give them a break, it was probably a Goodrich leavers party.
  5. On the news the other day they said it was a drainage scheme to prevent last summer's catastrophic floods in Herne Hill happening again. Cant trust those damn lefties at the BBC can you.
  6. I've already suggested this on EDF. An X176 that picked up at, say Goose Green, and then only stopped to drop at, say, Elephant, Waterloo and Aldwych would be an instant hit. In fact it would probably be instantly overcrowded and then we'd be back to square one! 7. That's an interesting idea. Just imagine how popular an X176 would be if it started at waterloo and ran non-stop to a bus stop on Lordship Lane... 8. She has appeared a lot at the Vauxhall Tavern so maybe she is hoping a lot of her fans live around here.
  9. Agree with Edcam - note to lousiec Victoria line doesn't go to goodge street but it does go to warren street which is next one up, so maybe depends where in goodge street poppet27 needs. if you don't mind lots of changes i think fastest might be bus to peckham, overground to elephant, bakerloo to waterloo then northern line!

  11. Competition now closed Kid Kruger's bolt cutters. Did the trick. Attracted quite a crowd though.

Had two keys, the second one was left on a bunch when I rented a holiday flat in Edinburgh in 2007 - am trying to find phone number of landlady on off-chance she still has key. Lock should be easy to crack - Herne hill Cycles say it's a type that has been discontinued because it can be opened easily, probably by biro method (google it). The whole thing is both frustrating and spooky - the bike key was on my key ring and somehow fell off. All the other keys are fine though. Call Derren Brown!

The problem would be plugging it in - bike is right inside station. I think Callow have a battery operated one - if nobody takes up my offer I'm going to ask Callow if they will still charge if they turn up and station manager stops them.

  15. Here's a photo of my bike. It's the D-Locked one on the right. If anyone thinks they can free it I'd be happy to take them down there and back and pay them ?30! DM me if interested.
  16. Duplicate post deleted.
  17. To Kid Kruger - I've tried to PM you but your storage space is full. Can you PM me your email address, I want to send you a picture of the lock. thanks
  18. 4eyes Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > you can use the jack from a car (placed across the > D, if it were a normally oriented letter) Not heard this option before but might resort to it! Thanks.
  19. Thanks Callie, I have asked for advice in bike shops and also resident bike expert forumite Mlteenie who suggested I see if anyone on the forum is handy with an angle grinder.
  20. Don't think bolt cutters will do it - there's a hardware store right next to the station and they said they didn't have any that would do the job.
  21. Hi, My bike is locked up at Herne Hill station but I've gone and lost the key. Has anyone got any tips for opening a D-lock? There is one method on youtube with a pen but I've tried that. If anyone has any other ideas, or thinks they can do it with the pen, or is handy with a battery operated angle grinder please PM me! See my post below for cash prize challenge!
  22. that picture by Edhistory must have been taken during hours when its ok to drive/park briefly in bus lanes otherwise the silver parked car is about to get ticketed too, but Dulwichbloke still has a point.
  23. If you can't find your manhole that's probably because you share one with next door and it's in their back garden. We thought ours was under our patio and took up most of our paving slabs before we realised this! Having said that, search the forum for pest control man Colin - he should be able to help without CCTV.
  24. How are cars spotted in the bus lanes - if its by those little white cars with cameras on poles often parked around Cheese Block then surely Lordship Lane is being specifically targeted. I think one of the problems might be that because you can park on Lordship Lane at some times of the day ? pretty rare for a major London artery - cars pull into the bus lane to park, realise they can't at that time, pull out but have already been caught on camera. Incidentally, i'm not that hot on stats, but 978 tickets a year is less than three a day, so hardly that draconian considering how many cars drive in the lordship lane bus lanes each day.
  25. Stand as close to the front door of the house where you think the phone is and trigger the alarm. Though if you do hear it I'm not sure what you should do next? Text them asking to return it? Knock? Call police? That's your, pardon the pun, call.
