  1. Agree with Edcam - note to lousiec Victoria line doesn't go to goodge street but it does go to warren street which is next one up, so maybe depends where in goodge street poppet27 needs. if you don't mind lots of changes i think fastest might be bus to peckham, overground to elephant, bakerloo to waterloo then northern line!

  3. Competition now closed Kid Kruger's bolt cutters. Did the trick. Attracted quite a crowd though.

Had two keys, the second one was left on a bunch when I rented a holiday flat in Edinburgh in 2007 - am trying to find phone number of landlady on off-chance she still has key. Lock should be easy to crack - Herne hill Cycles say it's a type that has been discontinued because it can be opened easily, probably by biro method (google it). The whole thing is both frustrating and spooky - the bike key was on my key ring and somehow fell off. All the other keys are fine though. Call Derren Brown!

The problem would be plugging it in - bike is right inside station. I think Callow have a battery operated one - if nobody takes up my offer I'm going to ask Callow if they will still charge if they turn up and station manager stops them.

  7. Here's a photo of my bike. It's the D-Locked one on the right. If anyone thinks they can free it I'd be happy to take them down there and back and pay them ?30! DM me if interested.
  8. Duplicate post deleted.
  9. To Kid Kruger - I've tried to PM you but your storage space is full. Can you PM me your email address, I want to send you a picture of the lock. thanks

  11. Thanks Callie, I have asked for advice in bike shops and also resident bike expert forumite Mlteenie who suggested I see if anyone on the forum is handy with an angle grinder.
  12. Don't think bolt cutters will do it - there's a hardware store right next to the station and they said they didn't have any that would do the job.
  13. Hi, My bike is locked up at Herne Hill station but I've gone and lost the key. Has anyone got any tips for opening a D-lock? There is one method on youtube with a pen but I've tried that. If anyone has any other ideas, or thinks they can do it with the pen, or is handy with a battery operated angle grinder please PM me! See my post below for cash prize challenge!
  14. that picture by Edhistory must have been taken during hours when its ok to drive/park briefly in bus lanes otherwise the silver parked car is about to get ticketed too, but Dulwichbloke still has a point.
  15. If you can't find your manhole that's probably because you share one with next door and it's in their back garden. We thought ours was under our patio and took up most of our paving slabs before we realised this! Having said that, search the forum for pest control man Colin - he should be able to help without CCTV.
  16. How are cars spotted in the bus lanes - if its by those little white cars with cameras on poles often parked around Cheese Block then surely Lordship Lane is being specifically targeted. I think one of the problems might be that because you can park on Lordship Lane at some times of the day ? pretty rare for a major London artery - cars pull into the bus lane to park, realise they can't at that time, pull out but have already been caught on camera. Incidentally, i'm not that hot on stats, but 978 tickets a year is less than three a day, so hardly that draconian considering how many cars drive in the lordship lane bus lanes each day.
  17. Stand as close to the front door of the house where you think the phone is and trigger the alarm. Though if you do hear it I'm not sure what you should do next? Text them asking to return it? Knock? Call police? That's your, pardon the pun, call.
  18. Write to complain if you want but it won't achieve much. I had a problem with a 176 a while back. A full 176 heading to ED pulled up at Camberwell Green and was clearly not going to let anybody on. An empty one behind it sailed straight past the stop. As it was stuck in traffic at the Coldharbour Lane lights I caught up with it and tapped on the door. The driver ignored me and as I could not see any id number which they usually have I walked round to his side and gestured that I was going to take a picture of him. He had a wooly hat on and pulled it down over his face. I went and tapped on the front window to get his attention and he suddenly swerved around me and drove off. At least he'd pulled his woolly hat up by then. Wrote to operating company, got fobbed off with reply saying drivers are highly trained, shouldn't have done this, will look into it, blah, never heard back again.

Or if it's a cab get in the cab with the card yourself... ...surely once you know it's a scam you should play along with it and then when the courier comes you've got an address ? maybe even a name? ? where the card is being delivered to to give to the police?
  20. Dont rely on google street view to check signage, it can be pretty out of date - you can see paddling pools out in our street so definitely not recent! Better to return to scene of alleged crime to check out - on your bike!
  21. I've found something belonging to them - please PM me.
  22. I think I win with my piccadilly/176 option! It really depends, of course, how close the final destination is to an overground station. If walkable from a station then sure, use a suggested train route, but if you are going to end up getting a bus down Lordship Lane etc you might as well get on at Leicester Square and enjoy the varied sights. (one caveat - I never use this route myself from Heathrow as I usually travel light and rarely do longhaul flights. If I had no luggage and plenty of energy I'd get piccadilly then district to Victoria then overground to herne hill and 37...) lots of choice there.
  23. Not the fastest but the easiest and cheapest would be Piccadilly line to Leicester Square then you come out of station right next to 176 bus stop. Otherwise heathrow link to Paddington, bakerloo to elephant & castle then 40 or 176 - but a lot more walking between changes that way.

It's not driving in that's the potential problem, it's driving out. Turning right from Goodrich and Heber onto LL is always a nightmare because of parked cars on southbound lane partially obscuring view.
