Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
sandyman replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
yes, I know, but for people like Spider69 above who want to use the park but can't afford the charges it would potentially offer them early morning options and - particularly in the summer ? plenty of free access in the evenings. Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
sandyman replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can you say if an option of introducing parking fees for, say, working hours of 8pm - 6pm as is normal for CPZ/restricted streets, was ever discussed? This would give those who want to use the park potential cheaper options outside main daytime hours. As far as i can recall not even Hyde Park charges drivers 24 hours a day to park. rch Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is another complicated discussion, but the > short version is that I managed to get the Dulwich > Park car parking charges put on hold when I was a > councillor (lobbying the cabinet member in tandem > with the Dulwich Park Friends) although I was told > that the issue would definitely resurface (as it > has). > > I then went to one of the open public consultation > meetings a year or two ago, whereupon I suggested > that residents who found it too difficult to walk > or take public transport to the park would rather > pay a fixed annual fee for a parking permit and > the councillor said that they might consider this > option in the future. > > By coincidence, I spoke to the park managers just > before the new charges came in and they told me > that they have a permit system in place for people > with health problems to be granted a free parking > permit if a doctor?s letter could confirm the > relevant health issues. > > The criteria states that the person has to be over > 64 years old and have mobility issues, but the > managers told me that they could override the age > criteria and even the mobility issues if the case > was convincing enough. > > It?s frustrating that this information isn?t being > made more openly available, and I would encourage > anyone with health problems to pursue the > ?mobility? permit option, so here?s more > information on the Dulwich Park Friends website, > including a phone number to call (but be aware > that this may take some time due to Covid):- > > https://dulwichparkfriends.org.uk/the-park/locatio > n-travel/ > > I would also suggest that residents could lobby > the new cabinet members to consider for an annual > parking permit to be made available to Southwark > residents, rather than having to pay ?2 for every > visit. -
Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
sandyman replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I thinks what's particularly harsh about Dulwich Park's parking regs is that they apply 24 hours a day. They are worse than parking restrictions in Oxford Circus. What would be fairer would be if they applied from 8.30am to 6.30pm like most restrictions. Then people who couldn't afford to pay could visit the park outside those times - admittedly this wouldn't be much help in the winter but it could be a great help in the summer when people want to get some fresh air. spider69 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Dulwich Park Car Park is the same. Moxon's Next Door has closed for good

Went past last night and it looked open. (edited to add i see it's already been confirmed! i don't have (too much of) a problem with these closures but they do need to be signposted more clearly. I was almost all the way down Calton Ave before there was a T junction sign - and by then I was so close I could see that the road was blocked off anyway. This was last night, hopefully more signs will go up or there will be lots of people trying to do three point turns outside the bookshop. tiddles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I suspect It is the new road closures - Carlton > avenue and court land are now dead ends so massive > rerouting of cars away from the normal direct > routes. Southwark Recycling Centre - is it open?
sandyman replied to dimjim79's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i could see the main info required was in the confirmation email but maybe i was being too much of a stickler for the rules so I clicked on where it said "print permit PDF" and the screenshot of the page that came up is attached. i thought i could probably show them the email on phone and it would be fine, but didn't want to load up the car and arrive and encounter someone who wouldn't let me drop of rubbish without proper printout - the confirmation emails don't actually have names on it. Southwark Recycling Centre - is it open?
sandyman replied to dimjim79's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had a slot booked today at 1pm but when i went to print out the permit this morning it said "page not known". Was going to try my luck without permit but decided that all things considered not worth the risks. Kid Kruger's post suggests I'd have been ok as i had the other proof of id/address. -
We went to pick up something ordered online at argos and they let us jump the queue - but they are very strict you are escorted straight out and not allowed to bunk into sainsburys - very frustrating as there were lots of discounted post-Easter eggs on display!

Opening up local school playing fields for exercise
sandyman replied to Jakido's topic in The Lounge
Ah that's good - I'd seen a few kids in there and assumed they'd bunked over the railings. Far too high and pointy for me! alfie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Alleyns have tweeted to say that their top field > is open for responsible use for daily fresh air -
I just saw two parked outside Franklins! rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Anyone know whether the Lime bikes are going to be > extended to ED? The parking zone currently stops > at Camberwell.

Same problem here. And where are we supposed to put rotting food at the moment when we don't have a brown bin (or brown caddy) Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I paid. Well this is exciting. We paid our ?25 subs last week and are still waiting for a sticker to put on our brown bin. Except that we now no longer have a brown bin...

I usually find that when the volume inexplicably goes down it's because i'm sitting on the remote! Seriously though, if you have a good up-to-date Tv buying a sound bar might be a simple solution - I've only just heard about them myself but I think they are basically speakers for TVs and much cheaper than buying a new TV.

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
sandyman replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry, still confused by this system. We haven't subscribed yet so don't have a sticker, nor do we have a small food caddy despite requesting one in April so last week we had to put our food (no garden waste) in big brown bin. It wasn't taken last Tuesday so we contacted Southwark via their "missed collections" page last Wednesday and were told it would be dealt with in two days. Still haven't heard back, food now rotting in the heat still in big brown bin. What are the chances of it being taken on the next round? Are we just unlucky or are others experiencing similar issues? And as a postscript - if they don't take the food in big brown bins, what will they do with it when they come to remove our bin as we haven't subscribed? -

Yes, that's what I used and it seemed to work for me the one time i used it - they gave me a code in the surgery then i registered and made the appointment at home about a week later. Maybe they registered me for it when i first went in. Not tried it since, but just t complicate matters further, when I later phoned them to ask for a referral for an annual blood test they gave me a completely different link to contact them about that - http://www.mgmp.co.uk/

Try booking an appointment online - i made an appointment a while ago by phone and the earliest date they could give me was two weeks away. A few days before the date i realised I couldn't make it so went online to reschedule and i was actually given an earlier day! You'll have to call the surgery to get a code to register to do it online but once you have it it seems easier and faster.

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
sandyman replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"Food waste, which will remain free for collection, should be put in a new food waste bin that the council will shortly be delivering to you. This will be much smaller than the brown bin and so hopefully should not create too much additional clutter." so people that pay for the garden waste service will now have four bins in their front garden. And they won't even be matching sizes. Lovely. If food and garden waste end up going to same place why have the smaller caddy if you've paid for the bigger one? -
Missing post since sorting office moved to peckham
sandyman replied to nina_maniana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yesterday I received a card for a missed tracked delivery which had to be signed for so I arranged for a redelivery on Saturday when I knew I'd be in. Just got in and it's been delivered today(Friday), it was just put through the letterbox, not signed for. Can't decide whether this is good service or appalling service. It's getting to the stage now where I'm just happy to get deliveries without having to hike to Highshore road. -
Worst local transport journeys
sandyman replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The 12 used to go all the way to Notting Hill Gate. Even though it was a Routemaster then it was still an epic journey. Worst experience I had recently was getting on a 176 at elephant. Driver changed on Walworth road outside Edwards bikes so we were advised to switch to the 40 behind. One stop later at Camberwell Green that also decided to wait while drivers changed and the 176 breezed past... -
185 bus (I have found it to be exceptionally poor)
sandyman replied to EDNate's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Feel free to vent but if you don?t like cycling, driving, crowds, walking from train to underground maybe south London life isn?t for you! But as I said, do vent, I feel your pain! FWIW I?d get a crappy bike, leave it at herne hill, get overground to Victoria and walk. Less than 45 mins, no waiting for snail-like buses, bosh. Or as suggested earlier do some bus hopping - at least it?s cheaper than when u had to pay every time.
