  1. I agree and disagree quids, I think Wolves and Blackburn were lucky (and Blackburn remarkably complacent) but gutted because I hate the idea of facing Blues next year instead of either of them. Ancelotti for manager now?
  2. I have observed same. Main roads (LL etc) are not for small children (i.e. those graduating from a pc) on bikes whether on pavement or road, nor are the pavements for scooters, mini-bikes with training wheels or skateboards. Even wreckless heely moves should be kept to the side streets. This unfortunate and selfish practice has more to do with parents using bikes etc. to keep their children interested on boring trips to the shops - well tough, they should be made to realise at as early an age as possible that such trips ARE boring and that they would much rather be home eating lego. For children learning to cycle I suggest the Bikeability scheme. When they have passed the modern equivalent of the old cycling proficiency test they can take their chances on the roads like adults do.
  3. Judging by his reported comments re WHU (used to indicate his readiness to manage another team in Premier League/Championship) Ancelotti knew what was coming and is preparing to stay in England. Warnock for Chelsea please. (one of those strictly-come-dancing comedy appointments)
  4. Okay let's talk... I agree a simple acknowledgement is desirable but feel that kind of politeness is due from all - and in my experience those lacking it most are the pushchair drivers themselves. Quite apart from talking on their mobiles or window shopping or talking to friends/partners whilst they career down LL, oblivious to those taking avoiding action to stop their shins being whacked, they seem to congregate (usually where the pavement narrows) and talk to other pc drivers with their vehicles parked at angles that deny pedestrians a clear passage. Requests to move aside, however politley expressed, are often met with stares that suggest you just asked if you could molest their offspring. Worse still are those with pushchairs that double as playbrounds and have detachable scooters and skateboards which the sprogs zip around on whether on LL or in supermarkets and the only politeness I have ever observed from pc drivers is the 'sorry' AFTER I have been whacked in the shins or had my feet trodden on or scooted over, as though that made it okay. I would rather not be whacked at all than receive a hundred apologies and would hope these people looked where they were going instead of pushing ahead on blissful ignorance of other pavement users believing the pavements are for them alone. So yes BE POLITE, but also look where you are going!
  5. a battle? i think you may need to have your sensitivity setting lowered
  6. I think it might help him to have to fight for his place, SL look difficult to dig out but I think Tremlett is the right choice.
  7. Great come back by Sri Lanka against the Lions (Dilshan,Tharanga) suggests the upcoming test could be a tough one. Perhaps Morgan will finally get a game after missing out on the Ashes but who to drop? Bell? Pietersen? ETA: Mistake by Morgan shouldn't count against him despite SL victory.
  8. Is Ancelotti serious or is it a come-get-me for QPR?

End of Not since Taytos changed the recipe - now Nash's Red Lemonade or Club Orange - that's a different matter (according to OH) - personally I should just like to say "Tizer, Tizer, pop, pop, pop!"

I don't think you can have lived in many other areas of London if you think LL is rude. Try the same walk down Walworth rd and you'll realise that not only is it a lot more polite here - it is sometimes infuriatingly so.

    Rapture

Just been reliably informed that the Rapture DID happen and that we were indeed all 'caught up' and it was last week not this and it was called Eurovision. Who knew?

    Rapture

I can't believe it. Days of build up, people preparing to meet their maker... and not one rupture joke.
  14. Congratulations AFC Wimbledon - the real Dons back in the league at last!

I think it depends on the quality of the wine.

    Rapture

There was a young man from East Dulwich...
  17. @Fazer - have you tried Il Mirto in Melbourne grove? I have heard good things for this Sardinian pizza/pasta place but can't speak from experience. Maybe worth a punt?
  18. Though a Coventrian myself I never got to Edgbaston but saw Wks v Worcs in the 94 Nat West final at Lords when Lara got a hatfull and Worcs won.
  19. With the footy season closing it's time to wander down to the Oval and watch Surrey v Glamorgan in the LV (luncheon vouchers!?) County Championship. Going on Fri (day 4 of 4 day game - optimistic). Not expecting a big queue at the bar. Does anyone actually follow county cricket like they do a fb team? Have seen Surrey Browns 20/20 games but this'll be 1st county game in ages. Edited to give Oval proper dignified title - Kia Oval.

    Rapture

So THAT'S why Samoa jumped the International Date Line - they wanted to be the first to the Rapture buffet. greedy.
  21. Yes Huge which is why i said it was 'close' - any extreme comparison for whatever reason - it's the use of the extreme not the subject matter - makes it funny and predictable ((damn that probably contravenes at least anothwer two of hunc's laws)) and flirts with hunca's unnameable law as that is how it usually arises - and yes the original WAS meant to be humourous

    The Daily Mail

I do realise that and that it was largely due to pressure over this case but how many new trials for how many new pieces of evidence? As for 'evidence showing you unquestionably did it' surely that won't be decided until the retrial? And did the original prosecution not believe they had similarly strong evidence? If they didn't why did they go to trial at all? If this evidence falls apart in court will these men continue to be brought to court until they are convicted because we all believe they are guilty? That's a dodgy road to travel. If new evidence (which may prove to be wrong/inaccurate/fabricated) was brought against the surviving members of the Guildford Four or Birmingham Six should they be arrested and retried too because someone thinks the evidence is strong enough? What's pragmatic about that?

In liht of tonight's re-airing of Dirk Gently I should also confess to a shelf full of the collected Douglas Adams, including the Dirk Gently Omnibus and The Salmon of Doubt.

Does no one else feel that - much as I want the murderers caught and punished - this is about justifying the scrapping of an invaluable 800year old rule and that this example will be trotted out in future every time a citizen's rights are crushed and he/she is constantly re-arrested/tried for the same crime as part of the state's ongoing harassment of individuals it disagrees with? Or that the police will get sloppier and lazier knowing that if they miss something they can catch it next time around? Or that a great many more people are likely to suffer than benefit as cases like the Lawrence case are rare. I hope they are convicted but I feel this is Cameron trying for his 'Osama' moment and will only serve to kill the idea of a future govt. resurrecting Double Jeopardy.

    books

No G.G.M. (think I got rid of them around the same time as Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Catch 22), got too many Wodehouse (Mr Mulliner and Blandings rather than Jeeves and Wooster) and Ackroyd books though, a slough of Russell Hoban's (adult rather than kids) novels and have a guilty pleasure in Boris Akunin's 'Erast Fandorin' books - ideal holiday reading.
