  1. Meanwhile Fish, Chips and More's takeaway a few doors away opens on Wednesday 7th December.
  2. According to the builders it's going to be a Papa John's. Is this good?
  3. Thanks for the warning! Cheeky so-and-so. Will let our at-risk neighbours know that "Barry" is about.
  4. Do the words " scraggy, long-haired , scruffy" and "peering into windows" perhaps answer your question?
  5. Apparently the police haven't got a sniff of who's responsible.
  6. Got to be.
  7. East Dulwich Safer Neighbourhoods Team are on 07920233912.
  8. Message from our District Line driver, while stuck between South Ken and Sloane Square this afternoon: We shall be held in a queue until we receive permission to move forward. The driver of the train at Victoria has been stung by a wasp.
  9. Another advertising triumph for the CB, courtesy of John Walsh!
  10. Found at 2.15 today a set of housekeys. Reply by PM if you think they are yours.
  11. Peckhamrye - "even Fuller's"!!? London Pride = Nectar!
  12. Agree with Nancysmum. We know Ray to chat to and he is outraged to learn that he has been the object of these posts. He denies being involved. While therefore we have no knowledge of what happened in this distressing case, we too feel that we should not rush to judgement before all the facts are known.
  13. Having just had a chat with today's visitor, who I found still in the road, it seems that he is with Miller Pattison, who I now discover are a legitimate company advising those residents who are eligible of their right to government assistance with home improvements such as insulation. So all is above board. I just wish they could just be a bit more upfront about it all when they appear!
  14. Further to previous posts on this subject, we have been cold-called twice this week by fluorescent-jacketed young men with an identical spiel. They began by saying that they were on the final stages of a survey of houses on the road and went on to speak of benefit entitlements to do with loft insulation. Both were wearing identity badges of some sort, although neither mentioned the name of their company or sponsor. I should have asked, but didn't. Having once again explained that we had no need of his help, I told the second one that I doubted that he'd have any luck in our road as it had already been covered. However, he carried merrily on. Although not it seems any sort of criminal enterprise, this outfit does look dodgy. The reluctance to spell out from the beginning what they were really after, plus the fluorescent jackets on a very sunny afternoon, - which were presumably meant to indicate some form of official or semi-offic1al role - should I suppose be in themselves a warning to the unwary. But they have a damned cheek, and the more often they are told this, it seems to me, the better.
  15. Dear Station Manager Can you clarify for me the situation for children, who travel free on buses, travelling by train from East Dulwich and Denmark Hill stations?
  16. I do not believe that charities should knock on doors after dark. Firstly it is impertinent. I do not wish to be interrupted in this way in the daytime, let alone in the evening. And like most people I am perfectly capable of deciding which charities to support, which indeed I do, without such visits. Secondly, when there is - always - a certain amount of deception burglary going on, it does not seem to me to be a good idea for charities to go on the knocker after dark (although I know they do have ID and show the charity's name on their garments). Many older people - and I am one - do not appreciate having to experience this and should not have to do so. I realise that charities do make a lot of money by this means - a recent caller from RSPB told be that they make more this way than the chuggers do. But this does not I believe excuse the practice.
  17. Thanks Danny, Good points. Had a visit from the SNT last week and am now better informed.
  18. It's more about the noise really. And that it might - as in the past - become a regular nightly event. As far as I can tell, the rider is not a youngster, and he's probably keeping it to 20 - 30 mph. Just planning what to do if he decides to make a habit of it! Clearly the SNT is the way to go.
  19. Thanks for this, James. I'll contact our SNT
  20. Thanks Jeremy - I've made a note.
  21. I wonder how many of the complainers have children/grandchildren who need to cross busy junctions on the way to and from school. I have a six-year-old grandson who is taken across Lordship Lane at Townley Road twice a day - as are many of his schoolmates. It is a very busy junction with both Heber and Alleyns nearby, and I do not see the need to get wound up about a couple of lollipop men providing this extra layer of security while young, sometimes very young, children are crossing.
  22. I agree with Twirly. Lordship Lane is a delightful mixture of shops as it is. Can't think of another in London like it. East Dulwich must look very attractive to some of the large chains, but please do not listen to their siren songs, Mr Barber. New Year Resolution: In this household we will try to use the independent local shops even more and encourage the Co-op to raise its game.
  23. Sounds good to me. Must get round there. Never tried a sausage role, but it is panto season...
  24. The Independent also has a home-delivery service.
