  1. There is an Oxfam Bookshop on Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill. You can get Nectar points as well!
  2. Mrs TP is spot on. Mountains, molehills and so on.
  3. It's been a favourite spot for dumping stuff for years. The back lane behind the shops is apparently not the council's responsibility so although in extremis they have cleared it now and again they are not keen. The problem seems to be not so much the shops - the bike shop for example put out their cardboard rubbish but are meticulous in getting it swiftly removed. Oddly (or not), fly-tipping seems to have got worse since the fairly recent appearance of a painted message on the wall reading "No Fly Tipping".
  4. Anyone in the Melbourne Grove area experiencing problems with Virgin broadband?
  5. I asked about donating some (new) books a year or two ago and was told that the policy was that they would take only books which they already had in their system.
  6. Thought it was a great improvement all round. The four terminals in the lobby are really easy and quick to use, and the main ground floor room seems bigger and lighter. There is one desk for enquiries though so users, as before, can still speak to a real person.
  7. Yup, G4S are the go-to people, following their Olympic triumph.
  8. The man you want is Greg at the indoor market, 1 Zenoria Rd, telephone 07966176169. He's not there every day so give him a call.

Yes we can mostly. We stack leaves and branches in the corner in a feeble attempt to discourage the fox. We still have an old green recycling bag and have had this emptied once or twice with no problems, by hanging it on the gate This is our whole recycling process laid bare.
  10. To clarify: We don't need a garden waste collection as we have a compost bin in the back garden. We only have a very small amount of waste food. We keep the small brown bin (larger than a kitchen caddy) at the back until the evening before the collection is due. Although we have a regular foxy visitor he/she has not managed to raid the bin as it is well barricaded. Just feel that choosing a small bin for aesthetic reasons is being penalised!
  11. We recycle only a small amount of waste food and use one of the small bins. It is difficult to know where to put this bin in the front garden on collection day because it gets hidden by the blue or green bins when they are emptied. We have been leafleted by the council about putting bins out on the pavement and told that binmen will remove and return bins to front garden. As a result our small bin very often is not emptied. Yesterday I placed it prominently, and unfortunately in full sun, on top of the large green bin hoping that it would catch the eye of the binmen. Today it is still sitting unemptied, again in full sun, but what can we do? Told the council on line this morning. The smell from mackerel skins is horrendous so hope they come soon.
  12. Wonder if anyone else is troubled by safety issues at the corner of Heber Road and Lordship Lane leading down to the lights? School children run, scoot, cycle, down here within feet of heavy traffic. The camber of the pavement tilts towards the gutter adding to the sense of wall of death. Would it be posssible to extend the railings further up the hill? And who could be approached about this?
  13. The Science Museum has a wonderful (free) exhibition running at the moment. Universe of Sound where you can step inside a virtual Philharmonia Orchestra, conduct and play with the new interactive digital installation based on Holst's The Planets. Went with an eight-year-old who studies piano and clarinet. He loved it especially getting a chance to meet a real cellist and have a long confab with him. There was also a typanist talking to some other children. Going back myself with husband (71)for another visit. The gallery is situated on the first floor quite out of the way, past the Ferguson tractor. It was not at all busy although the rest of the Museum had the usual half-term crowd.
  14. TFL are dealing with this but it seems moving at a pretty glacial pace.
  15. We have been taking a grandchild to Dulwich Leisure Centre for swimming lessons for the past year. The reception staff have always been very pleasant and helpful. Our experience is that the swimming instructors seem to have a good relationship with the children and make the lessons happy and successful. The family changing room can get crowded. If we have a complaint it is some other customers' habit of bagging the cubicles by leaving clothing there, instead of using the lockers.
  16. A useful site where you can sign up to receive a free monthly report detailing what has sold in your area, with prices, is Ourproperty.co.uk
  17. And while we're on the subject, is it too late to call it a station, or even a railway station? Or am I just showing my age?
  18. Disgraceful. Perhaps you should complain to NHS Choices. It is outrageous that they dare publish anything which does not accord with your views.
  19. Dulwich Helpline? 02082992623.
  20. Tried the new chippy tonight and the haddock was great - really fresh. Chips I thought a work in progress; not as good as Olleys. The seating area won't be open until March though.
  21. I think the coffee van is only there at weekends?
