What is the evidence for this? Does the road have its own consciousness? And do you not know how to spell 'desperately'?
  2. So it might be a Waitrose...? *SCREAMS with excitement*
  3. >> I dont think Herne Hill, Loughborough Junction or Tulse Hill are more affluent suburbs. I think that SW London is generally more affluent than SE, and their train/tube offering is superior on the whole despite the new much-needed Overground extension. I guess Boris has more mates in Wandsworth, and that can go a long way...
  4. Does this mean we will have ours cut then? Once again SE London losing out to more affluent suburbs?
  5. Peckham Rye feels a lot safer to me than Brixton. And you have the choice of East Dulwich on one side (designer baby buggy land), Rye Lane on the other (big high-street basics & ethnic foods) and Bellenden on your doorstep (cool little independent shops). Transport links are great. But as people have said, Peckham Rye is going to feel a bit sleepy for anyone coming from Brixton.

    Organic food

.but obviously those conditions for raising livestock are not unique to farms that have gone to the trouble of being certified organic. Agree Dave but isn't it good to have a standard anyway?

    Organic food

To all who share Voyageur's views, take a look at this: http://www.soilassociation.org/whatisorganic/organicanimals I take it when most people hear the word 'organic' they think of food with less pesticides/chemicals/additives etc. The fact that organic livestock are raised with more space, more natural food, superior outdoor access, more space per animal etc. seems less commonly known!

    Organic food

But you do know that organic means higher welfare standards? e.g. organic eggs mean the chickens have superior space per bird & access to outdoors than free range? Organic standards are the highest welfare standards for livestock.

    Organic food

What are people's thoughts on organic food? Would/do you buy organic? If so, why? If not, why not?
  10. I see no sign whatsoever that ED is about to crash. The latest casualties are the last in a long line of comings and goings. And more to do with rising rents (caused by the ongoing gentrification of the area) than anything else.
  11. I have to say, this argument that says "Where will the poor people get their food if there's no Iceland" is flawed in several ways. Firstly, the price of food as a % of household income has dramatically declined since the 50s, thanks largely to aggressive pricing at the supermarkets. If people are struggling to make ends meet, there are many other areas to consider first (the Sky subscription? Expensive car? Mobile phone? Designer clothes?) I don't wish to generalise by any means but it does amaze me how often people who claim not to be able to afford paying a few pence more for better food can still afford an iPhone 5 etc (I can't!) I think it's more about priorities than necessity to be honest.
  12. Bellenden is great thanks! Be nice to have an M&S within walking distance though... but I will shut up now. Have given my twopennoth :-)
  13. Anyone whould think they had murdered someone. What exactly is the problem with a shop replacing another shop with a slightly different (nicer) design and improved facilities? It will look better and your houses will probably increase in value too. Presumably you were aware that Lordship lane is a busy South-East London shopping street when you moved here? And has been since the Victorian times? We are not in some rural idyll in Berkshire or something. Thriving shops are something many parts of England would give anything for. Some people, I feel, would complain about anything.
  14. I live in a road just outside a CPZ and it's absolute hell. Loads of vans etc. parking in our street and people doing all sorts of sneaky things to hog/block spaces for themselves. Does anyone know how we would go about asking the council to extend the zone into our road?
  15. Sorry to add to the moans but does anyone know why our bit of the Overground will offer such an infrequent service compared to the Croydon/Crystal Palace bit? At times there are less than 4 trains an hour which should be the very minimum at any time I think!
  16. Costa coffee by any chance?
  17. Thanks for this. Find it sad how people don't look after their own neighbourhood. They must live nearby so seems like s***ting on your own doorstep to me.
  18. Someone (or some people) keep dumping rubbish at the corner of our street. This is a total eyesore and really gets on my nerves! I guess some people are just ignorant and selfish. Does anyone have any idaes as to how I can put a stop to it (other than installing CCTV or patrolling the area 24 hours a day)?
  19. So what is it going to be then? Stop teasing us. Give us a clue, at the very least.
  20. What a nasty, negative and unnecessary post Yellowfence! It's also ignorant. Anyone remember the previous incarnation of the (hugely successful) Palmerston? The Lord Palmerston was a hideous net-curtained hovel full of chain-smoking shell-suited men. Good luck to Chris and Antonia, the majority want you to succeed and rest assured if it's good, people will come.
  21. Come along children, play nicely please.
  22. Where do we go if we want to show our support FOR an M&S in ED?
  23. Peckham Rye and Dalston Junction you mean, Mr Ben. Shoreditch High street is SO 90s
