  1. It appears from the above that those who don't use services that are under threat aren't bothered about them being under threat. Whereas those who do use them don't want them to be cut. Who'd have thought it? Perhaps those people who are being blase about it might consider for a moment how they would feel if a train service they relied on was suddenly withdrawn. Just a thought.
  2. Gotta be honest, some of the houses in Nunhead are lovely but much of it is quite grim. East Dulwich it isn't.
  3. Is it possible that you don't know everyone who lives or works in East Dulwich, Rosie H?
  4. The reason is that Forest Hill is a known hangout for clowns
  5. I think a big factor in choosing an agent is whether they have a number of similar properties to yours or not on their books. If they do, it tends to count in your favour as people who are viewing the others will probably come to see yours too. Also I think pricing your property aggressively highly (quite common round here) is a big risk. If it sticks around too long it will put people off - and people who are too scared to put in a cheeky offer won't even bother to see it.
  6. I always thought a good property would sell itself but I now realise how important a good estate agent is. Recently sold our lovely garden flat in ED for just below asking price, which we thought was pretty good going. However this was only once we'd put it on with a good agent who set up lots of viewings.
  7. Gotta be honest, I live locally and on the few occasions I've ventured in I have been totally put off by the 'regulars' - a bunch of rancid, sneering old men. Don't really care how long you've been going to a pub, it doesn't give you the right to behave as if you own it. I'm looking forward to the refit, it might bring in a new crowd.
  8. Excuse my mistake, it's a long time since I've tasted it...
  9. And your point is....?
  10. Would you eat human flesh Horsebox? Full of protein. Tastes like beef (apparently). You could give them a 'decent life' first. Yummmy ;-)
  11. Shame you're not fussed about the meat industry Dave. But that's your right. Just as it's anyone's right to choose what they do and don't eat. You did say : The hypocritical ones (possibly) are the vegetarians who eat dairy products I don't understand this. I think it's possible to eat any combination of foods you like, meat or vegetarian, without being hypocritical! Unless you are making a very specific claim for your diet. I don't expect meat-eaters to constantly justify themselves, so why should I be expected to do that as a veggie? My point is I find it strange that so many meat eaters get twitchy and angry & start spitting bile and misinformation when a veggie is about... seems to me they feel just a tiny bit defensive and guilty!
  12. Ah bless Dave R, my irony is obviously lost on you! Also amused at the suggestion that if you choose to eat less/no meat but still eat eggs and cheese you are a hypocrite (why?) whereas having one animal as a beloved pet while eating another makes perfect sense (think about it!) I do love the bizarre contortions you meat-eaters will twist yourselves into to justify your diet. They are fascinating. To be honest I have much more respect for people who say "Yeah the meat industry does make me feel a bit uncomfortable but I just really like the taste of it."
  13. Good luck with the "support your local Dulwich butcher day" Suggest you might want to make some voluntary contributions to the NHS as you will probably be using them a lot when all the health problems kick in (increased risk of heart disease, obesity etc.) Also I do hope nobody in favour of this thread owns any pets as that would be quite hypocritical. A bit like those sanctimonious vegetarians who eat dairy products.

  15. Hahaha, am way too scared to do that (post a link)! Hmmm will think about it though, watch this space...
  16. Thanks for your replies, great to get your views and suggestions. To be honest I was actually worried we were a bit UNDERpriced. Comparing our flat to others at similar prices I can honestly say I think it's pretty keenly priced. There are some of comparable size & location around ?40k more! Have asked friends and work colleagues and they agree. Including the sort of people who definitely don't pull punches. When I see a property that's overpriced it instantly puts my back up so we deliberately avoided this. No hidden nasties either... the agent tells us that the people who've viewed it have had only positive things to say. Which makes us all the more confused as to why there have been so few viewings and no offers.
  17. Hello and firstly apologies if I should be attaching this to an existing thread. Just wondering if anyone knows anyone buying/selling locally at the moment and how it's going. I'm a bit perplexed because my lovely flat seems to be attracting scant interest. I know I'm biased (!) but I am genuinely surprised at the lack of viewings. So I'm trying to work out whether: a) My estate agent is **** b) The market is **** c) I just need to be more patient Any views on the subject or anecdotal evidence much appreciated! Thanks
  18. I would advise starting with something easy like a Mr Man book, then progressing to something without pictures... Hold on, do you mean 'Reading' the place? Sorry.
  19. Near the florist's and the toyshop. What is it?
  20. The transport is intentionally bad in order to keep out undesirables
  21. I had some lovely sprouts the other day. I do apologise.
  22. Sorry to be off-topic but I absolutely love your name, Helena Handbasket. Was it inspired by the eminent Richard Littledick?
  23. Sad that whenever something like this happens, the blame game gets played
  24. Vegetarian restaurant please. It seems insane that a place like East Dulwich doesn't have one.
  25. Where's our bloody Waitrose? If we don't get one soon I will scream and scream and scream!
