So tempted to wade into this one but I am resisting! Well done me
  2. Boris probably suggested the Bakerloo extension thing in order to quell suggestions that he is neglecting South London. When the fuss about the South London Line dies down they will quietly conclude (once again) that extending the Bakerloo south is not viable. Sly, nasty, underhand Tories... bring back Ken!
  3. It all looks pretty simple to me. The East London Line extension goes from South London to East London. The South London line connects South London to Central London. Therefore to suggest that one is a replacement for the other is absurd. Note that the East London line is the only tube line not to pass through Central London. I wonder what the good people of North London would say if someone proposed replacing one of their tube lines (say, the Northern) with an overland train that went to East London? Of course, nobody would dare suggest something so ridiculous. But when it comes to South London they think they can get away with it. This despite the fact that we are notoriously badly served by public transport as it is!
  4. Some people have been known to attack people as well cassius, so should they be on leads as well?
  5. Someone posted on here that they were attacked with a scaffolding pole on their bike in this area, on their way home from work. So do be careful. You're best sticking to the main roads I think.
  6. True Blood is amazing! "God hates fangs"... love it
  7. You could wear a strap-on under your dress and flash it at them as you go by. That should shut them up.
  8. ?1 - Bugaboo ?5 - Cath Kidston ?10 - Orla Kiely ?50 - founder of Boden catalogue
  9. In other words, "it won't bring in extra revenue so there's no point." Doesn't TfL's remit go beyond bringing in money? Isn't it about - dare I suggest it? - providing a properly joined-up transport network that encourages more people to use it?
  10. Right, I'm going to start a petition to turn it into a tannery. Who's with me?
  11. Shame it's not there any more, I do like a bit of crumpet
  12. Got caught in a queue at Peckham Rye this morning but the staff were fast, polite and efficient and cleared it quickly. I notice the station environment has improved dramatically too.
  13. Eater81 why don't you start a thread about religion in the lounge? Funny thing is I agree with your post about talking snakes etc. but this is a thread about parking! Talking about civil liberties and allocation of school places may be relevant but debating whether or not God exists belongs somewhere else methinks. Especially as school-run parents creating problems seems to affect schools of all kinds - irrespective of parents' beliefs and income bracket.
  14. I like the Daily Mail approach of listing all persons involved (to be whispered with raised eyebrows in style of Hyacinth Bucket of Keeping Up Appearances): "The Russian tycoon, his transsexual lover, her socialist parents and their illegal immigrant au pair"
  15. Oh my God, I am going to get a reputation for being sensible!
  16. Why should a teacher have to give up their free time to do this? (Or worse, do it when they are being paid to educate children instead?) I am amazed at this "blame the school" attitude when it seems pretty clear that: 1) They have asked parents not to do this 2) They cannot police them! This weird arse-wiping nanny state attitude is worrying. It's bad enough when parents expect schools to raise their children for them. Now it seems we are expecting them to be responsible for parents' behaviour as well!
  17. Are you suggesting that because the traffic bothers you people's liberty to choose where their children are educated should be taken away? That's taking it a bit far! This reminds me of the dogs-in-parks & children-in-pubs issues so often debated on this forum. As with both of these, a lazy, antisocial minority give the law-abiding majority a bad name. The answer lies not in taking away people's freedoms, tarring everyone with the same brush. It's simple - enforce the law strongly and uncompromisingly against those who selfishly break it. In other words, yes - let's have some traffic wardens around here. I have often seen lazy parents stopping in totally unsuitable places creating obstructions and traffic problems outside this school and others (notably Francesca Cabrini). They need to learn the hard way not to be so selfish and inconsiderate. A ticket should do the trick nicely.
  18. Have the anti-chain gang not considered the fact that a Sainsbury's here might actually bring MORE footfall to the area - thus helping the independents that have set up here? The other end of Lordship Lane has two supermarkets - and several newsagents. It seems there's enough custom to sustain them all.
  19. Might I suggest in the interests of equality that we have male totty as well? They can be judged on categories such as quality of manscaping, pectorals and empathy skills. Contestants would be required to wear tiny little shorts and bunny ears.
  20. I think you need one of these Azul http://dir.salon.com/story/mwt/feature/2005/10/11/real_dolls/index.html
  21. Impatient driver overtaking at speed without looking probably, happens all the time. Though I know we shouldn't speculate.
  22. "Salad leaves us green with envy" Snuggled in between a local hardware store and an undertakers might not be the obvious place for a vegetarian restaurant on Lordship Lane but we were more than happy to chance our arm on a wet Tuesday night. A warm welcome ushered away any thoughts of a depressing experience and we were soon ooh-ing and aah-ing over the menu. Beansprouts in a chili tang and Bluegrass Pancakes whisked away any thoughts of the usual veggie fare, and we were soon looking forward to our main courses. Bean curd failed to live up to its rhyming slang and tasted delicious in a Shitake mushroom sauce, whilst my partner's Roast Tuber Roast was rich and warm. Puddings were delicious too and shooed away any thoughts that veggies can't have fun too. We shared a yoghurt and honey layer cake which was absolutely. Our groaning stomachs decided against coffee. I predict a bright start for this neighbourhood newcomer. **** ?? :0)) ??? Where is this place? It sounds like heaven!
  23. I love a nice pair of plums;-)
  24. Do we know whether double-deckers would be able to negotiate the sharp uphill bend next to Cabrini school ?
  25. I'm afraid you are coming across as rather snobbish and insulting to Colfe's and Dunstan's, which are both great schools. Do you have any "EVIDENCE" for your opinions? Hearsay and personal experience, that is all you have. And a misplaced belief that the league tables are the be-all and end-all. Likewise myself, so we are even there! I am entitled to my opinion, as are you. In life we tend to base opinions on a combination of experience and the experience of others close to us, which I am doing. As are you. As I said, the school I attended thrashes Alleyn's in the league tables pretty much every year. But I don't think that necessarily makes it a great school! In fact, I thought it was quite poor in many ways. One of the prejudices Dunstan's and Colfe's face is the fact that they are located in urban, grittier areas - which no doubt puts snobs like you off. I don't care, I think they are all the better for it!
