As others have said, the Daily Mail is a nasty vindictive little rag that has certain targets it regularly spews bile at, the BBC being one. I note the Mail is strangely quiet about the new London mayor's axing of important transport projects that would help less affluent Londoners (e.g. Peckham tram, congestion charge extension etc.) Let alone the useless cronies he appoints with alarming regularity - also at taxpayers' expense.
  2. Oh I do apologise (why so stroppy?) I was just pointing out that Co-Op have just sold 24 of their Somerfields stores to several large superrmarket chains. They have yet to confirm which ones are going to whom. I also think it is incredibly naive to believe the emails these companies send out when asked about new store openings (of course they're going to say "we have no plans" etc. etc. That's how it works until announcements are made.)
  3. Place your bets please. Waitrose 100-1 M&S Simply Food 50 to 1 Sainsbury's 8 to 1 Staying a Co-op - odds on favourite (sadly)
  4. Apparently Sains has bought 24 Somerfields stores from the Co-op. Might Lordship Lane be one of them - despite the close proximity of the dog Kennel Hill store? Oooh, the suspense. I can't bear it!
  5. Ha! I will introduce myself next time I see you urinating into the shrubbery, or complaining about "all these ****** immigrants" in the bar..
  6. Has the potential to be a lovely pub, somewhat spoiled by obnoxious grumpy old men regulars hogging the bar and the odd chav getting drunk and causing disturbances.
  7. I should point out that the trial began yesterday. So that's hardly 'advance notice', is it?
  8. As a regular bus user I find it slightly alarming that I only discovered this trial existed by reading it on this forum. I doubt the trial will be a roaring success if nobody knows about it...
  9. Oh my God I bet it will be so exciting! What will they be reporting on? WORLD EXCLUSIVE - FRIED CHICKEN OUTLET TO BECOME BABY CLOTHES SHOP. Perhaps the clown could have its own column? At least that would be interesting
  10. It's not as if we don't have enough European/steak places locally either (Franklin's, Le Chardon, Le Moulin, the Palmerston etc.)
  11. I thought the WI was a bit trendy these days?
  12. See my comment on the other thread - veggie options would be great
  13. Can we have some decent vegetarian options? East Dulwich is strangely lacking in vegetarian restaurants; I believe Turkish food is normally great for this (like the Tas chain in London, which has loads of great veggie options)
  14. West Wickham! Classy
  15. Don't worry, you're not missing anything
  16. Yes but Bromley is also full of revolting perma-tanned nouveaux riche Essex types who live in pebble-dashed 30s semis (with the garden concreted over for the BMW 4x4) and dream of pulling a footballer or a soap star in Jazzmins or Delano's. So we are lucky really.
  17. One of the ones in Bromley is on Burnt Ash Lane - hardly a posh area!
  18. Which part of ED is this?
  19. How about top "my East Dulwich husband's having a mid-life crisis" cars? I would start with that sporty Alfa Romeo estate - the one that falls apart after a few years.
  20. Please tell me it's going to be a veggie-friendly Vietnamese!!!!!!! Happy Chinese New Year everyone
  21. LegalEagle, I would advise you not to bother with Alpha. Go to the excellent Darwin exhibition at the Natural History Museum instead. One of the most intelligent, fascinating and informative exhibitions I've ever been to. Makes me happy to be alive - and clearly demonstrates that there is no evidence whatsoever for intelligent design/creationism.
  22. How about a local branch of BIG GIRL, Peckham's clothing emporium for the larger lady?
  23. Did anyone mention The Verve? Turgid, droning, self-important nonsense. Agree about The Cure - their best stuff was that early run of pop singles. Lovecats annd Inbetween Days - flashes of deranged pop genius in my opinion. Nothing has sounded anything like them since.
