Some people have jobs where they are on the go all day, going from apointment to appointment. No one has the "desire" to eat on the bus, who the hell would choose the bus as an ideal place for a snack? Some people grab a bite between appoontments because they need to eat, end of.

People chucking litter on the floor of the bus, and / or putting their feet on seats is anti social, and should be tackled. But a blanket ban on eating is ridiculous.

I have heard it suggested that the whole fox hunting thing is a bit of a ruse to distract people from all the other stuff the government are up to. And judging by social media it's working today extent.

I was never aiming anything at you in particular. Apologies. -
"Freedome to hunt" is just such a shit phrase to use. Like their human rights are being abused by not letting them chase a fox on horseback, If we all have the freedom to hunt, lets go after him with a spear.

Just to clarify, I think cake / well wishes / putting forward for an MBE are all great ideas. I don't think a party or going in to local businesses trying to blag free meals is such a good idea. If I was the chap in question, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable about that sort of thing. But that's just my opinion. -

Well unless she's left and come back, Ms Brooks must have been there over 30 years by now. -
I know, I read through a lot of it yesterday.

I must admit when our band rehearsed recently in Peckham on a Friday night, I did find myself wishing I had some money and no kids to get home to as I made my way to the bus stop past lots of interesting looking stuff happening.

Yep Mayow is my guess. It's the little fountain thing that gives it away (assuming it's the same one). Wells Park is my favourite in Sydenham.

I just googled "live music suffers at the hands of gentrification" and there are articles about Sydney, SanFrancisco, New Yprk, Austin and many more. Young people will (probably) always find a place for music and fun and art. I just think that these places are going to be looking outwards rather than in to the centres of cities.

Yeah you're totally right, I've never argued that places don't change constantly. A lot of my yoof was around New Cross / Deptford, and those places have changed a lot since then. But, when long standing places disappear and are replaced by dull corporate nightmares, it does get a bit miserable.

When it comes to nightlife with loud music (live or not), this really is happening in cities across the world. It's not just about where people can afford to live, it's also about developers building their souless blocks everywhere, and clubs and venues being closed down.

Goose Green squatters thread (classic) http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,447811,page=1
-
Thats's lovely for the kids. People are allowed to find it horrid though, doesn't make them chail murderers. Personally I have no idea where this tree is. From memory the squatters were actually a bunch of middle class kids playing at being alternitive. Not sure there was any actual housing need involved.

What's the live music scene in Camden like these days? And I don't mean the round house, I mean all the pubs, are they still banging?
-
Not writing it off, but as you say, the energy has moved out to East London. How long before it moves out of London all together because the people that make it happen just can't afford to live here? I don't want to be a doom monger, but development is tearing down anything slightly shabby, and slightly shabby places tend to be where the interesting stuff happens.

I left way back in 1989 and I remember Ms Brookes very well, she was my older sister's class teacher, and taught my class occasionally. Acouple of the other names (Bosman and Pett) are ringing bells, but not sure. -
I'm with Jeremy. There's also the fact you agree a price before you set off in a mini cab, so no watching in horror as the meter ticks up and up.
-
And uncleglen, in the past I've assumed you were partaking in a spot of trolling/flaming, but you really are a deeply unpleasant cunt.
-
Well for what it's worth I think Louisa is spot on. This isn't her talking about East Dulwich, this is London and if you show her thread to any long standing Soho resident I think they'd say it's bang on.

I like quite a few ales, Late Knights do some fab ones. But I don't resort to lager, I bloody love lager, and I'm not too cool to admit it. People should be able to choose the things they like be it beer, food, bands, or whatever without being told that something else is better. Especially when a lot of the muppets waxing lyrical about ales don't come across as entirely believable, but more just drinking it because it's the in thing right now.
