  1. Surely ?50 is about right? I wonder how often the ?2k people actually attend Church. Is ?2k the going price for lifetime salvation cover these days?
  2. http://www.hewittsfarm.co.uk/# Went a couple of weeks ago, and it was lovely. They were growing shed loads of pumpkins at the time.

Probably at most a fine for the club. They should be made to play all their home champs league matches behind closed doors.
  4. PN33, Getting a place in Penge only means another 15 minutes on the Night 176, it's not the edge of the world! Plus much better links to trendy East London.
  5. And with supervision from qualified teachers, TAs teach lessons.
  6. bornagain, yes I'd be okay with it of they were regularly supervised and observed. In social care / health there are lots if examples of unqualified workers such as OT Assistants working with people in cases that don't require full OT input, once assessed by a qualified worker, and with the work being monitored by qualified workers. I am not saying that anyone with a DBS (new name for CRB, now Disclosure and Barring Service) should be left to teach kids with no one keeping an eye on it regularly.

It's a hell of a lot easier to become a teacher than a doctor! (not dissing teachers, but wouldn't compare their qualification and study to that of a doctor) I don't think it's right for schools to hire unqualified teachers for subjects like science / English / maths, but I think it's perfectly fine to bring in experienced sports coaches for games / PE, and I can imagine bringing people in for languages, and I see no problem with it so long as it's closely monitored and supervised. Equally with that head in Pimlico, I don't think there is so much a problem for an experienced manager with very good people skills to run a school if they have a good knowledgable team around them. That girl was 27 years old and knew nothing about education. There is unqualified, and unqualified.
  8. Yep, I regularly eat my dinner off of Sydenham High Street.
  9. I think in East Dulwich at the moment, anyone could flog a property for over the asking price.

I didn't think Dortmund looked all that to be honest, but Arsenal were not firing on all cylinders.
  11. I personally don't see a problem with schools using unqualified teachers for special!st subjects, and indeed they may be the best people to teach these things. But it requires close supervision, and that is what seems to be missing in this case.

Good point from Gary Lineker "Pity it's Portugal v Sweden in WC play-offs. One of football's biggest stars will miss Brazil2014 . Ronaldo or Ibrahimovic for BBC pundit?" That is a shame one of those two won't be there.
  13. Damn it, I knew I should have gone for a Fulham win last night! (went for a draw)

Never thought I'd say this, but I won't lie, I am quite tempted to read SAF's new book. Should be some tasty stories in there!

We shall see, but they are looking great. Meanwhile Liverpool and Man U showing what confidence and lack thereof can do. Still early days though, Let's wait and see where we are on Jan 2nd...

I've always thought it was stupid to deny DSS applicants. Surely you know you're going to get your rent money paid.
  18. I've not gotten round to exploring yet, but plan on a hike up the mountain at some point. Gameplay time is very limited due to kids though, and by the time they're in bed I often don't even have the energy / motivation left to turn on a game console, I just sit there staring blankly at the telly.
  19. I was looking at that game too, but haven't taken the plunge as yet... Anyone playing GTA5? I've done a couple of hours, and am liking the look of it so far. Waaaay better than 4, which I could just never get a feel for with it's clunky gameplay.
  20. If there are issues about children being punished I reckon a call to Ofsted would gee them in to action.
  21. A call to OFSTED is definitely the way to go. I dislike Ofsted a lot, but unfortunately they are the only ones currently who can act properly on these concerns.
  22. Sydenham is great. That's about as far down towards Lower Sydenham as I'd go as it starts to feel a bit bleak further down there.

He did mention that they've not been tested yet ;-)
  24. I was in the Herne for a family lunch today abd thought the staff were very good. But they need to employ a couple strictly for behind the bar serving drinks.

Yep, although he'll kill me for saying it, Mr Lush was saying they were looking pretty good when I saw him today!
