  1. The rest of the family room must bebusy getting jiggy.
  2. Fair enough, but I thought I might get in trouble if I called the thread "it could be worse, the doctor could be catholic" ;-)
  3. I suppose the other side of the coin is when you have a mother who requires a blood transfusion but won't have it due to religion http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-491791/Jehovahs-Witness-mother-dies-refusing-blood-transfusion-giving-birth-twins.html but at least that is their decision even if it must be awful for the doctors who want to save them. PS. Sorry for the Daily Mail link, it was the first one I could find.
  4. We just keep telling each other we'll get it back one day... It is very difficult though, and usually by the time the kids are finally in bed all we want to do is veg in front of the telly.
  5. I just walk away hoping they won't catch up.
  6. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/this-is-a-catholic-country-woman-dies-of-septicaemia-after-being-refused-an-abortion-in-irish-hospital-8315609.html Shocking

Because I genuinely wondered. It's not my bag at all (each to their own and all that), and I just can't imagine listening to that whilst relaxing, but equally couldn't imagine dancing to it. I'm a rock / metal boy at heart, and there are tunes I'd listen to at home, and other tunes that I'd go mad for at a gig or club, but wouldn't put on at home.

anapau, can I ask where you would listen to that ? Whilst you're washing up, whilst driving, whilst clubbing?
  10. What an absolutely horiffic idea!
  11. We must be very lucky in Sydenham (Lewisham Council), as I see loads of street sweepers (or whatever the correct job title is these days) in the mornings, and they always have a friendly hello for you as you pass. Sydenham is very leafy (much more so than ED), but the trees are very well kept in check, and when the pavements get covered in leaves (like Jews walk was the other morning), they are gone by the next day. I guess different councils made their cuts in different ways, but this is an area where I am pleased Lewisham still seem to be spending the money.
  12. Good that the youngsters will play, and congrats Stevie G. Other than that, meh.

    The BBC

Basically, I think we are lucky to have the BBC, and whilst it's not perfect, it's pretty bloody good. I don't think it's out dated or out of touch. Yes the Saville revelations have clearly shown that there was some serious hush hushing back in the 70s and 80s, and anyone found to have known about abuse should be held accountable for it. However, I really hate it when an organisation is held accountable for what that organisation did decades ago. Find the individuals that worked for the organisation back then. It reminds me of the PM apologising for things that happened in the past, such as Bloody Sunday, or Hillsborough. The families involved appreciate it, so that's good, but I do sort of think why is this bloke apologising for stuff that happened when he was a teen, and what does his apology actually mean? (and that is not a dig at David Cameron, fair play to him for standing up and making those apologies) With regards the whole Newsnight thing, an investigation is needed, and should be transparent, and the individuals responsible for certain mistakes should be held accountable. I don't think that means they should be sacked outright though.

    The BBC

BBC Sport Website = Great BBC News website = Pretty darn good BBC Radio 4 = Sanctuary from the kids watching Cbeebies in the living room! Cbeebies (TV Channel and website) = Agggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BBC TV Programming = Very mixed bag, but some quality stuff in there. BBC Comedy is in a good state, things like Thick of it, and Getting On are cool. I'd like to see them do more stuff in partnership with the likes of HBO (Rome). See if they could get some of the writers for the top quality U.S. Dramas like The Wire / Sopranos / Breaking Bad to come and create a really really good British series. Instead we get Luther, fun but a total load of bollocks. Life on Mars / Ashes to Ashes were very good IMO. I hope that after the Jonathan Ross saga a couple of years back, they won't be so quick to offer stupidly large salaries to their top "stars".

    It's a DISGRACE!

That solo is wicked! It's a disgrace that you think it's a disgrace.

    Dubstep

I did a search on youtube and the stuff I heard just sounded like a lot of other stuff I've heard over the years, I'm not sure what sets it apart.

    It's a DISGRACE!

All of these have been mentioned in many places before, but the DISGRACE thing is something that I've noticed more recently.

    Absolutely!
  22. "He's a fairly typical 18 month old boy at the moment, obsessed with trains and trucks and diggers " Is that not because he's been given trains trucks and diggers to play with? In my (admittedly limited) experience, kids of preschool age will play with anything. I have 2 girls, and I am shocked that when the older one's preschool had a "pirates & princesses" party, she was the only female pirate. As long as we give little girls Barbie & princesses, and little boys trucks and action man, we will always have the same divides in adulthood. Hope that doesn't come over as a dig at the OP, it was not meant as one, it's just something that interests me.
  23. Well said!
  24. Is anyone else getting a bit fed up with seeing this word used all over the place? It's often football fans saying that it's a disgrace that a player wasn't picked or some such nonsense, but I see it all over the place to describe things that may not be good, or particularly pleasing, but a disgrace?
  25. Yep, that's pretty much how I see it too.
