    Grim.
  2. Saw that earlier. Hopefully no one will give him a licence, but boxing being boxing you never know. Very sad.

I don't think you'd like it now Foxy, probably best you stay away. It's rather family friendly. I disagree that you have to sit down with a bowl of soup. A cup of good hot soup on a cold day is a glorious thing.
  4. "St Olave?s & St Saviour?s Schools Foundation" Didn't know that. Also I've always thought it was St Saviour's & St Olave's. Oh well.

I think the problem with you specifically Lewis is that people can't see the wood for the trees (see what I did there). You ramble on and on and on and on and on, spouting a load of emotive half truths, and people don't know what to think (other than "I wish this Lewis dude would give it a rest"). I've never wanted to see trees cut sown unnecessarily, but you alone have made me want to grab an axe and head down there myself.

Not that I think DE are acting in a reasonable manneer, but a toy shop that's been there a few years is not the heritage of an area.

I imagine some green eyes from United and Chelsea supporters. Should be interesting to see if he can continue his success in the EPL... Thing is he's coming to a club who will buy whoever he tells them to, at whatever price, so he's pretty much nailed on for success.
  9. Indeed, it's not fair to say "you have no right to complain, and should put up with anything because you live near a pub". Pubs have a responsibility to their neighbours without a doubt. BUT If you live by a pub you should expect some noise that you wouldn't expect if you didn't live by a pub. Either way, if you're bothered by noise from a pub, the first thing to do should be to have a word with the manager.
  10. Haha, good point rah.

I love soup, but if you served fish soup I'd be coming nowhere near you. Tend to agree with foxy that local rents might be a challenge. What about a soup van on Northcross road?
  12. Sounds like it's pricey all round. Does it feel cosy at all? One issue I always had with the Rose (and previous incarnations) was that it felt too open and cold. Bit like The Mag.

Sounds about right. Which explains why they don't hold such a special place in my memory, as I'd have been 10 and more in to computer games by then.
  16. No it doesn't. But it also doesn't mean they should be as quiet as living next door to a family home would be.
  17. My nan moved to Devon from Peckham before I was born. I was born in Dulwich Hospital.
  18. You're right, I don't get out much anymore, and I haven't been up there for years. Sure it used to be open but maybe I'm muddling memories. For all I know I'm thinking of the reservoir near my nan's place in Devon.
  19. I thought it was roughly where Ludlow Thompson / Bossman Wines are now, but it was a long time ago and I'm not sure. Definitely down that way past Northcross Road.
  20. True about toy shops. Growing up I loved going to Zodiac Toys in Peckham (hoping my mum would get me a He-Man, Thundercats or Transformers toy). And a trip to Hamley's was a proper day out! There was one on Lordship Lane (was it Banister toys or something?) but that didn't do it for me.
  21. Thing is, if some teenagers go up there, get pissed and someone drowns in the reservoir. Or indeed a little kid runs off and falls in, Thames Water would immediately be held accountable by the same people that are demanding they open it up. As is stated above, if people had been respectful when it was open (more or less) then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
  22. Why would anyone even remotely care about a load of old bones?
  23. Sorry BR, my bad. Have seen kids doing it and didn't realise they shouldn't be.
  24. They're trying to do the whole "village" thing with Kirkdale in Sydenham. But that pesky chicken shop just won't go away.
  25. Also, nothing to do with having a pop at toffs (surely if there are any toffs it's the estate?). Simply pointing out that areas change. There will always be people that have previously been priced out of areas, or moved away because it no longer felt like the area they knew and loved. If you move to a place because you like what is there, that doesn't give you the right to demand it all stays there. Good businesses on Lordship Lane have gone sue to rent, but they've been replaced by other businesses that people clearly like. It's often a shame, but it's how it is.
