nothing about the refurb sings tho', does it - from an aesthetic, design perspective I'm not suggesting it's worthy of investing in a la Blackfriars, but given the time and the way they have moved up the sides, it could be a BIT more expansive and elegant

Noisy person in open plan office - how best to tackle

Pauline Fowler does have a very irritating voice tho Other people with irritating voices in an office situation (not all volume related) Tony Blair Brian Blessed The guy from Chelsea who works 5 desks down from me The woman from NY who works 2 desks down from me I?m not sure class has any relevance to the annoyance. -
"Also having normal gates, as opposed to the tap sensors right by the chokepoint door where people would suddenly stop and do their business whilst three flows of crossing traffic attempt to defy the laws of physics about different objects occupying the same space, " an example of how words can really nail a situation - bravo sir

It has been mooted, that as the organisers take a well-earned break from organisational duties, regular participants and attendees of this fine, established local event might wish to mark the occassion by retracing the route in a slightly more relaxed fashion in 2013 In short, a pub crawl starting at the Plough, ending at the Clockhouse (and if some people wish to embrace the off-road Barry pubs such as The Great Exhibition and The Actress, then so be it) previous dates have been 2008: 7 June 2009: 13 June 2010: 24 July 2011: 23 July 2012: 21 July So I propose either 13th July 2013 (Lambeth Country Fair is on the 20th, see) Anyone else in?

I was speaking to HmB at the weekend and suggested I might put a date in the diary for a Barry Wander - basically a mini pub crawl to mark the occassion but without any of the organising, running or effort Start at the Plough, down Barry Rd, probably veer to TGE and Actress? and then back to Barry Rd at the Clockhouse

yeah the attractions of SNP, nationalism and the rest of it sit uneasy with me, but so do the counter-arguments amounting to "Scotland wouldn't cope" I'm sure same was said about Ireland in all the years before independance (and it's current economic woes hardly make it unique)

Stolen handbag in The Bishop Saturday 8th June

" Anyway after looking at the CCTV I will keep an eye out for extras for Grease." someone PM'd me on here to say the male thief has stolen my hairstyle as well. Very droll -
It?s a bit odd how a thread which is about people abusing disabled parking bays has been re-interpreted as an attack on diabled people We are through the looking glass people If someone is picking someone else up on using a disabled bay then clearly it?s because they know that those bays are for the benefit of disabled people ONLY. If you are disabled or caring for a diabled person, no good driving to Sainsbo?s only to find the bay?s used by people abusing the system. But surely if the person you are caring for is at home and you are going to pick up some medicine or whatever, you as an able bodied person don?t need and shouldn?t be using a disabled bay ? no-one is being put out by you walking an extra few yards in this case

Nicholas Ideally ? well, ideally, there would be no crime.. but y?know... ? so ideally I would like people to be able to post warnings on here but without - A bunch of people saying ?what has happened to the area???. A subset of people in an area posting about incidents does not equal a rise in that incident overall. As more and more people register on the forum, we will see more of these reports ? it doesn?t mean the area itself is under seige - asking what road/pub? As if that is how it works ? you are just as likely to be affected in road X as road Y dependeing on who is doing the naughty robby stuff (I know that hasn?t happend in this case, but it?s a regular thing) As to you?re point ? if you don't warn people about crimes that have happened to you, aren't you giviing the impression that things are better than they are? ? Possibly ? but does that mean that you need to know about every crime, as it occures to be in the full picture? I don?t ? I try and live my life as you would expect to live it in any major city ? thieving scumbags are about and will try and target easy prey, so I TRY and stay alert. I know I don't always tho.... As for the couple in the picture, I doubt we will see those individuals again ? they will have moved onto a new patch. But the main point about staying alert remains valid. -
Bishop must be close - 11.50? And ClockHouse is ?11 I'm not suggesting those are cheap or fair prices but nor are they out on their own (DraftHouse Poke burger and fries beats the others hands down IMO as well)

likewise I hope I haven't come across as unhelpful to you - all the emotions this evokes can be pretty raw What it suggests to me is that most people don't think about crime and how it's treated until it happens to them. Most of us generally assume that crimes is at level X and there are X+10% police resources available to deal with it etc. But it really isn't the case Threads that try to warn people only serve to give the impression that things are worse than they are to some people. But given the amount of threads on here over the years warning people to be careful, it's amazing to see just how many people (for example) wander back from the station glued to their phone, oblivious to who or what is around them. It's only when something happens directly do we leap from innocence straight to "the whole place is going to the dogs!!!" ;-) I'm pretty sure I did see the CCTV pic from the Actress on the night tho... Sorry if I have given impression of treating it lightly - it's more from a perspective what is best way of dealing with it. It's petty theft, it has been around forever, especially in London, there will never be enough resources to deal with it (correctly so - it would be prohibitively expensive!) but we can use commonsense. -

I don't think anyone is suggesting they SHOULD get away with it But on Saturday night, the police would most likely have been dealing with stuff of far more importance (no matter how important to you or me) Ask for the most pinsharp CCTV footage available to man all you like but it doesn't help us get much further down the road As you say it will happen again (we live in London - it's happening in a dozen places as we read this) and again - it's important we stay alert. The more we do that the more it's diminishing returns and that's what stops thieves ultimately -
To add to the constructive criticism (before I go on to the positives ? stick with me!) the music selection lately has been pretty one dimensional ? secretdj takes requests but are never played ? I suspect staff playlist is overriding secretdj The decor ? is as people describe but doesn?t bother me too much. It?s emphasised by the layout and whatever any of us say on here, the pub is completely stuck with the odd architecture. Those steps go up and down for a reason and if it was easily changed then Draft House (or previous owners) would have done something about it It needs something creative to make that space work, not a cookie-cutter theme approach. What that creative solution would be tho, I have no idea! The burgers are pricey but menu wise there are some reasonable options on there as well ? it?s not destination food but it?s decent diner-ish fare. But by pub standard even the burger isn?t that out of the norm. I totally accept Jeremy?s point that once you get over a tenner you lose some people ? but nor is it uncommon. Honest burgers may be better and cheaper but a) 20 mins bus AFTER you wait for a 37 ? whatever some say, that is not a no-brainer b) Have you seen how busy Honest is? I haven?t been able to get in c) It?s small, poky and (in this weather) cold. Plus the range of beers is obviouslly limited The beers ? when DH first opened the range was limited in comparison with other branches but it?s definitely much improved. It has even shifted me from my default-lager-option And they have become a lot cheaper (not cheap ? but cheaper) Overall I?m going there more often, and I?m meeting people there more often. I like the place, and the people behind the bar

Commiserations to anyone who has their stuff knicked (I had my phone swiped in a pub just before Christmas) but I?m wary of this over reliance on CCTV ? especially in busy pubs When my phone was knicked it never occured to me to ask the pub to get involved ? it was my own dumb fault ultimately (I'm not blaming the victim here - but it was me not paying attention, not receiving a kicking with no justification) . And if everyone who has something nicked asked the pub to pull up CCTV, go through procedures etc there wouldn?t be anyone serving drinks! I?m not saying CCTV can?t help ? but with petty theft it?s surely far better and much more effective to just be alert. Every pub/restaurant you go into has some variation on ?management are not responsible for items lost etc etc? signs up, we?ve seen them for years so we should take responsibility. If you want to discourage theft you will do a MUCH better job if you look after your own stuff & keep an eye on your immediate environment Much harder to be a thieving git (and get away with it) if people catch them in the act. Even if I had got the CCTV footage, even if it was pin sharp, it?s basically just another person who looks like a bazillion others. The resources used to track down a phone theft (and likely fail to do so) seems at odds with just us paying attention The police aren't there to track down every crime/theft - there just wouldn't be the numbers. Let;'s say they identified the person who stole my phone and they are already known to them AND they know where they reside (already a number of ifs there). They find enough evidence to proceed with charging (again, unlikely - the phone would with someone else in minutes) and they review the CCTV footage. What they would have seen was the person at my table. That's all. Phone was under a bag and some papers. No obvious handling took place just my accusation that it was THAT person who stole the phone. I strongly doubt a conviction would happen No I'm not saying they SHOULD get away with it, or condoning them as anything other than what they are - thieving gits. But no-one was harmed and given the unlikely outcome of chasing them down, I'd rather learn my lesson and let the police deal with more serious crimes -
a quick google of the phrase: temperature mid teens shows it to be pretty commonplace. When I read the OP I thought "I've heard that LOADS of times"

greendale and that alley/path to sainsbos are the only places in the whole area I feel I am inviting a mugging Everywhere else it still might happen (random being random) but that whole place feels like "lowlands". Similar places exists in most towns and I always avoid them. Even in afternoon sunlight, with a buggie and baby, I feel exposed there Hope your friend recovers ok horseplay
