  1. Otta - you're engaging in this conversation si I'm using you as a reference point but I'm not trying to make it about you The opinion you posted is one that has a lot of currency at the moment - Loads of people are expressing the same opinion. And I disagree with it True, in isolation YOUR opinion isn't going to change anything (none of us have that magic power) but when an idea is common currency then yes it does encourage people
  2. I'm also interested in any suggestions on how to "engage" with UKIP voters to dissuade them from doing so?
  3. I was on the phone and couldn't copy paste the whole thing - I wans't trying to misrepresent you at all Nor do I think your full paragraph changes anything - it says to people who are tempted to vote UKIP they are doing a good thing ultimatly The SNP comparison is bogus, because it was actually about a constitutional change and the GOOD part was the high level of engagement and turn out across Scotland (you do remember I posted about being on the No side don't you?)
  4. "because what UKIP do is divide," is that what they do? every individual or party "divides" people But it's pretty easy to stay on THIS side of a UKIP line isn't it? If I suddenly stated an intention to vote UKIP, would people say "wtf has happened to him?" or would people say "fair enough really. The party he has supported for the last 25 years has let him down and he didn't feel he had an alternative"
  5. Annasfield thats twice you've said what it won't be - if you know more, why not share it?
  6. " then more and more people would end up going to UKIP," if anyone changes their vote to a repugnant party because they feel patronised then it says way more about them than it does the commenter
  7. Was there a party NOT supporting that war quids? Otta. You are in quite the charming mood lately. "Part of me feels pleased about UKIP winning a seat in parliament" Sound familiar? No way to I think you are in anyway a ukip supporter. But I think that sentence displayed encouragement to UKIP voters. Do you think it doesn't? Loz. I'm sure the source will be enough for you to dismiss it but just in case http://leftfootforward.org/2014/05/15-reasons-women-shouldnt-vote-for-ukip/
  8. Here is what I think would make a lot of people NOT vote UKIP Non-UKIP voters making it obvious that UKIP don't have a fair point. As it is, the media saturate us with UKIP presence in all programmes (in a way other minority parties don't get) and lots of people who have felt they Have been unable to be publicly bigoted for years suddenly feel liberated and encouraged. So you encourage them if you want. Free speech? I'm not stopping them speaking - I'm just saying what they say is wrong. If I was a woman I would be petrified of UKIP having any access to power for example.
  9. I doubt ANYTHING Isay would make the slightest difference to someone who can look at ukip and vote for them I'm not electioneering. I'm calling what I see. IF I'm listening to a cab driver rant about immigrants or women shouldn't have the vote, nothing I say will change his mind. Absolutely nothing. But I can and will call him thick. And worse. But hey.. You defend them if you want
  10. God forbid people should take responsibility for their actions
  11. More leftie nonsense (the economist) on immigration http://www.economist.com/blogs/blighty/2014/10/labour-and-immigration
  12. Leftie nutter (Matthew Paris) in student rage (the times) absolutely nailing it https://mobile.twitter.com/stephentall/status/520686724146790400/photo/1
  13. The Snapper
  14. I didn't realise the keane book was ghosted by Roddy Doyle. Interesting
  15. That said, even my intolerant self is hoping this is apocryphal "Quote of the day from Clacton on Resident "Yes I voted UKIP the Tory MP has done nothing for years"
  16. But I don't care if people of almost any persuasion are thick. I genuinely don't It's when they start voting in numbers for a ludicrous party with scary policies disguised as "honest" I start to get agitated. I don't care about the main parties getting roughed up. But there are a dozen less unpleasant parties to vote for. By actively voting for this party it's a combination of thick and dangerous
  17. You didn't say struggling = thick But I did say if you are struggling AND vote for a party with little by way of written manifesto and a stench of xenophobia over them, then yeah you're a bit thick. Especially as other protest votes are available If you are not struggling and vote for them you are also either thick, or racist. And possibly both Why is it a mistake to think UKIP voters thick and or racist? What's clever about it? Where is there a shred of intelligence in voting for them? Exactly what is it in their manifesto that rings true? "WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK!!! Enough not stepping on toes!!!!!!""
  18. Not sure I agree. Have a look at results in May. I suspect many struggling areas won't have a bar of UKIP. Struggling doesn't make people thick.
  19. Are people on here starting to equate working class with UKIP voters? Because that's not right surely?
  20. but it is all massively entertaining
  21. Btw ? I?m not trying to pick on you Otta. It?s just you expressed an opinion I hear so regularly and I always wonder why people don?t join the dots If a politician has to be elected to do anything at all, he has to get a critical mass of people behind him. This means finding enough centre ground. This means compromises. This means the people in That Tribe feel their leader isn?t listening to THEM and has gone too far the other way. It?s a really vicious circle and I don?t know the answer to it I do know the answer isn?t UKIP mind... as I?ve said many times, OTHER protest parties are available (none of them get the coverage UKIP do tho..)
  22. "This isn't a go at Miliband, because I'm sure the others would have put exactly the same spin on it (and I think Ed's a good guy), but for me it's exactly what is wrong. The politicians think they know best what is best for us all, so they spin everything as a positive. " That reads like you blame the politician to me?
  23. "I know that would be suicide a" if that's the case why blame the politician - why not blame the people who would judge him/her for it?
  24. It's a free rag these days so stuff like this is sadly inevitable
  25. BecAuse it was the closest thing to a Chris Morris thread. I didn't want to start a new one just for the news link I posted
