  1. that first time seeing Knightlore - how the? what the? holy crap tribalism is still rife btw - xbox v ps is bad enough but when PC hraphic card whores get in on the action.. sheesh
  2. I was once invaded by a player in dark souls who ran up to me and bowed (not uncommon) But before we started he gestured me to follow him so I did (no talking in dark souls allowed) . We walked for a good bit to a dark forest where he had made a circle of lit stones. He took off his weapons and shirt and it was clear he fancied and old fashioned boxing game. So I did same Now that is multiplayer larks
  3. Ico had a hd fresh lick of paint (along with its spiritual successor shadow of the colossus) on ps3 Very nice they are too But I never lived the "hit black shapes with sticks" element I'm with otta on cod. Playing them is like being in a city of london bar, on a Friday night. Truly awful online community as well. The sort of game that turns me into a mail reading parent who hates computer games
  4. ". The Spectrum version of Warlock of Firetop mountain was a disappointment. " I played that but gave up on it when it seemed like an infinite number of enemies kept coming through a door - I'm pretty sure it was a bug
  5. The big speccy classics get mentioned a lot and I played pretty much all of them. But one game you don't hear so much about, but which I completed and spent waaaay too much time on was the truly awful http://www.retrogamesshop.com/product_info.php?language=en&info=p2048_transylvanian-tower--richard-shepherd-software--sinclair-zx-spectrum.html&
  6. And I meant it with love, not scorn really If I was a spurs fan I would be excited about this appointment too. But would I be confident? A great job at Southampton to be sure (although he inherited a pretty good squad), and there have been boardroom shenanigans to navigate there as well but, but. Levy + a not majorly experienced manager at top level? Could turn out to be another Brendan Rodgers* or could turn out to be yet-another-spurs-manager * I harbour some doubts as to wether Brendan Rodgers will be so well regarded this time next year
  7. RD said "To be fair the thread has been a bit dead for a while" but it's not just the football thread is it? the whole forum generally is pretty quiet Even trying to judge levls of interest in Barry Barry this year - nothin'
  8. y'knowworrimean when you went into that building (and adjacent buildings have/had similar layouts, but are different types of business) but you walked in and were met with some stairs immediately, you then had a few steps of "mezzanine" and then there more steps down to a huge cavernous space which may or may not have contained people It wasn't a very convivial space through no fault of the owners - but it looks like FM will be flattening it all out which wil lbe a big improvement no?
  9. I suspect they are taking so long because they are doing major internal building changes and getting rid of those horrible up and down stairs
  10. I love it when Jah talks about optimism over new spurs manager Which is handy as I get to read it every few months
  11. Whoever is doing the telling Carlos, I suspect they mean the pizza place opening a few doors up to the deli ( Franca manca)
  12. Last week Carlos told us it was going to be a dominoes
  13. "Running a business and taking risk is by no means easy. The proft made is the financial reward (the wage of the owner is the profit in a typical corporate structure). If you think anyone would start a business and risk their own money for no financial reward, I find that hard to understand. " can't disagree and wouldn't want to But there are costs of doing business as well - wages is one of them. You can choose to pay as little as possible of course, but of everyone did that, business wouldn't have any customers
  14. You MIGHT run a business because you can make a good living, like what you do and take pride in employing other people "That would be like taking your wage and saying since you make money you could give more away without any context. " Isn't that exactly what income tax is?
  15. " However, job losses and business closures do occur every time the minimum wage increases. " you could replace the last 6 words with "all the time, regardless of anything" bad business loves to blame anything for their troubles - bad pubs blame smoking ban for going bust when many other pubs have thrived. Saying something is the cause doesn't make it so
  16. "Like most businesses care about ideal." well this is it Otta - historically, most of thr 20th century had some link between business and social goals. that has been eroding for the past few decades and is reaching a tipping point And it's not just a bunch of lefty liberals wringing their hands over this - in last few days we have had head of IMF and the Bank of England talking about the disconnect http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/may/27/carnney-lagarde-city-primeval-will-survive http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/may/27/capitalism-critique-bank-of-england-carney
  17. Given the "flexibility" of staff on these wage levels (plus zero hours contracts), isn't it just tempting for many businesses to say they can't pay LWW. Just as Amazon says it pays all the tax it's legally required to? All legal of course, but not exactly ideal
  18. I did read your posts carefully tho, and it still wasn't clear what your position was. To me anyway. And that could be my fault. But it's not for lack of reading your messages
  19. I sort of agree about "singling out the picture house isn't fair" thing btw - but then again teh thread IS about the picture house and their staff have recently gone on strike on the matter, so it's germaine to the discussion. But on the wider topic we can assume we are also talking about other companies I guess
  20. gosh LM, you think I'm attacking you? How so?
  21. LM - you said earlier today that if business had to pay a living wage that virtually ALL London business would close Minutes later you said - "Most people in London earn more than the LLW" contradictory But anyway - number of people living in London below living wage = about 16-20 % of population http://www.livingwage.org.uk/blog/1-5-paid-less-living-wage-says-kpmg That is not a small number - and I doubt most of them are the casual workers looking for supplemental income. No poicy ever is going to magic those peolpe into better skilled/paid jobs, much less replace them should they actually find those jobs
  22. If I'm an individual trying to put a roof over my head, what job in London should I get, for less than ?8.80 that constitutes "fair"?
  23. " SJ Likes that too by the way, so take his advise with a pinch of salt " Joiiiiinnn meeeeeee
  24. i cannot WAIT for my daughter to get started!
