I eventually got a booking with the Co-op near the address in SE25. It was limited to 20 items and due to be delivered yesterday. When it was several hours late I contacted them, only to be told the order had been cancelled. No communication whatsoever. They didn't have the stock in store to fulfil the order.

Where is it safer to food shop in East Dulwich ?
Alan Medic replied to Alan Medic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As the death rate increases so will peoples awareness of what not to do will also. -
Any recommendations where some basic shopping supplies can be bought locally? Have any shops applied procedures to allow us to keep away from each other? A list of these and what the procedures are, advertised on here, may lead others to follow suit. Perhaps if you do suggest somewhere, you could add what they usually stock.

It is good news. I still think we should be in lockdown, as much of the damage has already been done, which will become apparent in the next two weeks. The supermarkets are now probably the worst place you can go.

Helping other neighbours through the Coronavirus

What is it you doubt about your role? You're keeping your distance. Anyone visiting them would not be doing them a favour. -
Has anyone in ED actually heard about the virus?
Alan Medic replied to worldwiser's topic in The Lounge
Very powerful. Thanks for posting it. -
Finally indeed. Now they need to sort out the supermarkets. Only a lockdown will do that.

Well that was my spare thought. I didn't realise it had to be helpful.

My son in China reckoned panic buying stopped there after a couple of weeks, when the penny dropped that there was no need to do it.

Yes. Tiles though not cards.

The only reason I presume people are panic buying is fear of there not being food in the shops. Yet there is no indication that there is a shortage of food in the country. So why do it? Herd mentality?

Exdulwicher, do you agree with Rachel? I suspect her point that your calculations are based on 1 person might be right.

How to keep yourself going without the internet?
Alan Medic replied to wee quinnie's topic in The Lounge
I was amazed how much I enjoyed doing a jigsaw I was given as a present. I hadn't done one since childhood. I found it addictive. You're likely to find one in charity shops I believe if you want an inexpensive trial run. -
I wanted to send someone, who can't go out for fear of getting the virus, some shopping. I tried Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Iceland. No delivery slots available. Any others I could try? The person lives in SE25.

I played a 'board' game with the Mrs the other day. I would love to what the odds were of what happened when we were determining who went first. The game consists of 106 tiles. 8 sets of numbers 1-13 and 2 'jokers'. These were all placed facedown on the table in random order, and we pick one each to see who has the higher number and thus gets to start. This time however we both picked the same number (as each other, not literally the same number) on 3 successive occasions. Eventually at the 4th attempt, who should start was decided. I think the odds on this happening must be huge, but I don't know how huge. Anyone know? Quids might if he reads this! PS Each time we selected a tile of the same number they were returned to the table, so we were always selecting from a total of 106.

This is important but I don't believe it's common knowledge. I know that two younger people died in France possibly because of this. It's worth being aware of. The head of infectious disease in Cork University hospital has released a statement to doctors. They have 4 young people in serious condition from COVID19. None have underlying conditions. All were taking non/steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. France has issued a similar advisory. Many Bective players take anti-inflammatories for injuries. They are what I mostly prescribe for rugby related injuries. They include difene, neurofen (ibuprofen) and vimovo. There are many others. All players should stop taking these drugs immediately and not take them for the duration of the COVID19 crisis. There is significant evidence that they exacerbate COVID19. Dr. Tim

What I picked up from Bojo yesterday: a) Don't go on a cruise b) Wash my hands c) Some of us will die I wasn't planning on a) or c). I can do b). If the plan is to flatten the 'sombrero', which science suggests is the best way to minimise the impact on the health services, why are other countries closing schools, stopping large events etc, when their aim is the same as that of the UK?
