Loads of horrible songbird-killing, nest robbing, magpies around. Very much on the increase since the demise of gamekeeping.

LegalE-ish wrote:-So restrict all dogs cos you got attacked once? I do believe that if you read the press there have been many other attacks apart from the animal that attacked me. There was a case a few days ago where two Alsatians were fighting and when the owner tried to intervene, they turned on him and killed him. In some countries dogs are not allowed on the streets without a muzzle. So why not here? It certainly does the dog no harm and may save them from being harmed.

How can house prices go down when population is going up?
SteveT replied to CT Wac's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Brendan wrote:- prices have been directly related to how much banks are willing to lend people to buy them. Which have only been taken up by people who can afford to repay the loan, and those who failed became bankruptcy statistics, or sub-prime mortgages. -
Endangered species - does it matter?
SteveT replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Endangered species becoming extinct is most important, as it suggests we are living beyond our means, taking far too many resources from a very finite planet. We are all in the same queue, alongside or behind the rest of the species waiting to go under. We (mankind) would have to radically change our breeding habits to make any significant difference. No politician that I'm aware of would tackle such a burden. -
How can house prices go down when population is going up?
SteveT replied to CT Wac's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mockney Piers wrote:- Yep, weirdly the prices of houses are dropping because the cost of houses is rising, put very simply. Which makes no logical sense. The cost of houses is directly related to how much anyone is willing to pay for them, put very accurately. -
There is almost a sixty percent failure rate in marriages to date, and the experts do not expect that figure to improve in the coming years, especially with the present economic outlook.

On Friendship Kahlil Gibran Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace. When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay." And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught. And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. I know this is all too late, but he is always worth a read. Having embraced 'The Prophet' I wondered if he had anything on friendship.

Try a search on 'poetry corner', there must be something that would do.

Huggers wrote:- The best thing to do if you are scared of dogs is to ignore them, which of course is the hardest thing to do if you are feeling scared. What would you do if you were attacked by an animal that you were trying to avoid, you made no eye contact, you were going in a different direction to, and in a calm manner? How do you ignore the attack then Huggers? The dog had no collar, and no owner anywhere in sight and it has been harrassing you for several minutes, what would you do Huggers? My argument would be to have dog enclosures with-in a park where they are allowed off lead to run to their hearts content, but with a muzzle on. When they leave the dog park and enter the people park they are in a muzzle and on lead. There are far too many of these macho dog owners who do not give a fig about rules and regulations, who get a feeling of power and excitement from intimidating others, all because they have inferiority complexes. This has been the case for many years and nothing has changed to the benefit of the rest of the normal (none dog fighting) population.

Giggirl wrote:- So I'm thinking, should I buy the boots and have a little hike and see how I feel about it? They need to be worn non-stop for two weeks from breakfast to bed-time to ensure they wont cripple you on the hiking days. GG wrote:- I checked out the hiking footwear and it's all really ugly. I really wonder whether this is the right thing for you to undertake, the boots are supposed to be robust enough to protect your feet in rough terrain. I don't think you will find any to match your lipstick. To be honest GG I am sure you would have a far better holiday donning your hiking boots, taking a back pack full of cash, hitching lifts to Blue Water for the risky excitement, and shopping for shoes and accessories till you drop. Leave enough on your credit card for the ticket home.

Nonce is derived from 'getting up to the old nonsense' or so I was told. "Nonce" is prison speak, used for any sexual offender.

12 mile hike per day, thats half a marathon or 5 hours walking. Then swimming, and one lentil for supper. Any self flagellation? Sharing bathrooms and bedrooms is for students and that kind of age group. If you can take your own party to share with so you do it together, might be slightly more appealing, but only slightly. Strictly for the youth or twenty something year olds, in my opinion.

Yeah Ted, it is obvious to every right thinking person that you are a class act all the way, right down to your manicured nails. It seems to me Tulip, you had a hard time mainly because of your youth, and for that I would put up with all kinds of hardship,.... if only.

I would head to Streatham via south circs crossing at the Tulse Hill square-about, into Christchurch rd, about half way up the hill turn left on Hillside rd which cuts out a large busy corner then follow around the corner, down to Streatham High rd, turn left and go through Streatham and take the right fork to Mitcham lane A216. Most of the traffic will go left here Continue until the A217 London rd and turn left, which takes you through Sutton then pick up the M25 signs turn right on M25 and get off at M3 to Camberley. Allow 1.5 hours. It may take less time but traffic etc.

One of my sisters was a biter and he had a go at me, the next time he tried I just pushed my clenched fist into his mouth, which he did not like and never attempted to bite me again, but he carried on biting other unsuspecting victims. He should've been thrashed wi''in an inch of his life, and sent to bed wi' out any tea. That'd teach 'em.

Getting a 4 yr old to eat after illness

Try ice cream, that worked for me after a two week stint in hospital at 4 years. -
One guy I new said that if you make a path in a marriage with a pre-nuptial agreement, then that is the path your marriage will finally take. My advice would be move in together and see how it goes. I was 'shacked up' with my ex-wife for two years before we married, it still ended in disaster for me, but she swanned off with the assets that she hadn't put in. Men do not get either a fair hearing, or fair play when dealing with the divorce courts. Most divorces occur during later life, over fifty years of age. One couple I know have been married for 48 years, successfully raised 3 children, both are convinced they now have nothing in common, and are most unhappy about their position.
-
I have yet to see statistics for people who are 'shacked-up'. Mr Ben wrote:- Or to put it another way - if you marry in England you statistically stand a 45% chance of losing 50% of your net assets. I hate to say Mr Ben but you stand to lose far more than 50% if it breaks down, my cousin lost 90% of his assets and both his children were over 21 and in full employment. My brother fared better he retained 30% of his assets, and I landed 25%.
