    Skiing advice

Hi, thanks for that. I do know it is not cheap but I am willing to pay for the lavishing of attention on me! Ideally one-two is better, but it is unlikely I will be able to find another complete beginner to go with. In six days, what kind of standard should I expect to be able to get to?

    Skiing advice

Hello all, If I were to take one-one skiing instruction (in Austria) how many hours a day would you recommend for six days on the trot? I'd've thought that two hours is not enough and that four might be too much. FYI, I've never skied before but am fit and healthy. Thanks.
  3. About three weeks ago I had very bad smelling wind, a poisoned feeling with pains in my joints, including fingers, sinus woes and a general lethargy but no vomiting or cold symptoms. It was very unpleasant but I don't think it fits the norovirus pattern of symptoms. Could it have been something like giardia? I did feel dizzy and had very vivid and hyper-real dreams. Hmm. Anyone else?
  4. Have the Ferdinand brothers 'given back' in any way, if indeed they did play there? Sport is important, but ?375K seems an awful lot of money, especially these days.
  5. Superdrug is the cheapest, offering the jab for ?8, I think.
  6. James, I understand the need to keep unnecessary street furniture (as they say) to a minimum, but as long as the equipment is placed so as not to obstruct pedestrian flow and is kept clear of tagging etc, it doesn't bother me. What does bother me - and you might be able to help - is the inability of the council to remove those plastic-sheathed, yellow planning permission signs that adorn many of our lampposts. If the council puts them up, they should really take them down after the three week period is up. (I remove them once the closing date has passed, when they are often faded and filled with dirty rainwater, like grim, gothic saline bags.)
  7. I agree with Otta. If that part of SE2@ were a post-mythical Shangri-La of a spot, then I'd object. If Southwark Council can get some money from it, fair enough. As long as they're kept working and not left to rot if the deal goes south it's fine by me.
  8. Iceland is great for good value basics - cream, tinned fruit, frozen prawns, spuds, bananas, baked beans, olive oil, milk etc. It's not that busy, the staff are friendly and efficient and the shelves are always well stacked.
  9. Confront them if you are reasonably sure you won't get a smack in the chops, or worse. I do it often and have not had anything more than unimaginative and repetitive back-chat. The last time was on the 40, near to CPR: a woman chucked stuff from the window on the lower deck, so I said to her 'please don't do that'. She could only respond with 'shut up' which she repeated about twenty times! I pointed out that her anger was a sure sign that she knew she'd done wrong and that I was not in the least bit embarrassed about pulling her up over it in public.
  10. FHR is better than before, but the strip is let down by the scruffy looking blue and yellow place next to the barber's and the corner shop that has been left seemingly abandoned for years. I like the coloured bollards but think a few more trees could break up the monotonous concrete paving.

  12. Perhaps the 'lack of space' (not really--double decker buses can hold up to 90+ people) might make people overcome their fear of heights/backward facing seats and go upstairs/to the back instead of congregating around the doors. If you CBA to move out of the way, don't roll your eyes or tut or worse when someone asks you to make room.
  13. Skylon. It can be pricey but the views and food and service are all good. There is a cheaper brasserie and a more expensive restaurant. Have a look on TopTable for good discounts, or ring them up and ask about the lunch menu.
  14. Two mortice locks and a functioning alarm, as well as window locks and as near total vigilance as is possible are the best ways ways to keep burglars at bay. Don't think it won't happen to you? Why shouldn't it? Burglars go for easy options like a lot of people, so make it hard for them.
  15. Orlando has a nice part of town called Winter Park. You can sit on the terrace of decent restaurants and hear and see the slow-moving cargo trains go clanking past on the level crossing on the green. Very few tourists head there, especially in the evening.
  16. I have enjoyed my time there - the food was good, the atmosphere lively, the lighting good and the service good, too, but the prices are too high for a local restaurant, and that puts me off from returning.

    Spam mail

Hello again. I did not open or reply to or forward the email from one of my friends, but I did open the other one (thought did not reply or forward it.) Hmmm. Oh well, my passwords were not that strong so at least they are now.

Thanks - but I must again explain that I was not hit by the scam - two friends were. I've changed my passwords out of caution.

    Spam mail

Thanks for your input. It is certainly more complicated and more disturbing than I thought. My account (Gmail) is still OK, but I have changed my password for it and Twitter, my bank etc (I've got different ones for each thing and use letters and numbers). I saw my friend whose account was compromised. He'd had it for years - it was his first account - so he's decided to ditch it for Gmail. He told me he'd received a mail from himself offering him a job, so what's been said above is certainly valid. My other friend has changed her passwords too.

    Spam mail

Hmm. Very intriguing. I have PMd you, but just wanted to ask anyone else about it. Where would the person doing the infiltrating get your details from? Is it if you go to a Facebook app, for example, or if you click on a URL on Twitter, for example? I know v little about spamming and hacking, hence my rather wide-eyed questions. (Where I work the spam filter is very good and my own account is Gmail, which I have used for a few years and have never had any problems with.) Thanks all.

Thanks. So, how do accounts get hacked? Is it by a 'real' person or by an automatic bot or something? The fact that two friends had seemingly been hacked within a short time made me think that somehow the problem was something to do with me.

    Spam mail

I got an email 'forwarded' from a friend and sent lots of his other contacts. It was a link, prefaced by a badly spelt and poorly punctuated spiel explaining how this person had made lots of money and how I could do the same. I can't think that my friend would have sent this on to me, especially because the other contacts listed include estate agents and a potential boss. A few hours later I got one from another friend, again apparently forwarded from someone else, and offering another way to get rich quickly. Can someone with computer knowledge tell me what is going on? Have my friend's accounts been 'hacked' or is it something I have done? Thanks!
  23. Ring 7525 2000 and ask for the environmental people to come and collect them.
  24. Sri Lankan would be good, as would Vietnamese or a good Mexican, serving fish tacos and the like. Something along the lines of the 'posh chippy' down the road: functional, bright, prompt service, non-flashy surroundings, no music, cold beers, waiting staff with good English. Keep us posted!
  25. Try the place at Waterloo Station. They promise the best rates for dollars and euro. ICE
