  1. That is good news. The bus stop at FHR, near to the HH tavern was not displaying info for the 63 when I caught it yesterday lunchtime. On the way back from King's X much later, the info board there for 63 was not showing services either. I told both drivers but I don't think they were too bothered.
  2. Everyone's a minority these days, so why should and how can a council justify putting on a festival for any one group? Why not just call it a 'nice day out with some booze and various dance troupes and hopefully not too many stalls selling tat' if there's to be anything at all (at all?). That way anyone can feel happy to attend and to pay.

Is there a way of finding out when you changed your profile/privacy settings, from, say, fairly normal to the most strict?
  4. Oh, come on! If I saw a man or woman beating a child about the head or neck in a public place for some minor misdemeanour, I would tear a strip off them. Stop cowering behind hoary claptrap like 'different cultural values' and do the right thing!
  5. Disagree with the warmth. 22C is plenty warm enough, especially if you have been exercising in water that is 27C. Warm, stuffy changing rooms are the bane of my life - and plenty of others. Have a pleasantly warm shower, dry off quickly, don your coat/scarf/hat and be on your way.
  6. The P13 cd do with a revamp too. A slightly bigger bus with better ingress/egress (is that the right language?) would be welcome.
  7. Great pool, but FILTHY floors in the (male) changing rooms at times. Cd someone wipe a mop over it - preferably one dipped in some disinfectant - every hour or so? It is basic hygience/courtesy.
  8. I have a flight on easyJet ex Gatwick in mid July that leaves at 0810. I am only taking hand baggage and have not gone for the speedy boarding nonsense. Any advice on the best rail route to get there? I live near to Goodrich School, so can get to P Rye fairly easily and am not averse to getting up early. 0710 check in would be OK for check in? Thanks!
  9. Bit naff that it is taking so long? What are they doing in there? Also naff that there are two ersatz Italian (perhaps the word 'quasi' would be more appropriate?) when there could have been an alternative.
  10. Berlin is sophisticated, genteel, stylish, welcoming and confident, adjectives I would rarely apply to members of a stag (or hen or 30th/40th/etc birthday) party, so either go to have a non-trad do or don't go at all. Brits on the piss - especially supposedly middle-class ones - are shaming and sad. You could have a piss up one week here in the UK and then go and do something less boring instead with the mates you really appreciate.

    Jordan

Not been to Jordan, but went to Syria last year for a fortnight and would definitely go back. I understand that things might be different mood-wise since the Tunisian, Egyptian etc uprisings, but given that expected protests never materialised I get the impression that the place is much less 'tinder-box' than some people would think or might want (if you are a international news network, I mean!) Tourists in Lebanon, too, are well catered for and at the very, very least tolerated, though more often they are welcomed and left to their own devices. Now that easyJet flies to Jordan I expect more Brits to go there.
  12. The Mind shop is always open (during office hours, I mean, and unlike the hospice place which seems to close at odd times), has good staff who are personable and helpful and some of whom have had or are living with some form of mental illness. It also has a facility whereby you can get your tax back on donations. Also, if the clothing stuff you take is not up to scratch then it will be dumped into the big bin outside. I wish the new shop well but hope that the managers will provide a bit more in the way of staff training and take on board some of the - mostly reasonable - criticisms on here. If you have electrical items, search out a local charity such as Gingerbread which will send someone to take them off your hand.
  13. Poor again in SE22 0EP, where I have to switch off and on on a regular basis. Seriously thinking of Sky.
  14. I recommend using Dulwich Library, which is pretty well-stocked with classics, new releases, comics (AKA 'graphic novels'), travel guides and DVDs/CDs. Other than that, there is a great cafe on Barry Road, near to the junction with Underhill Road. Jazz Barbershop provides good cuts and there are lots of curry houses.
  15. Sheepdog...A not so little, red Southwark council parking-check car was parked - illegally - outside Sainsbury's yesterday at around 4 30pm so it could ticket a car. I spoke the the men (there were three of them!) and told them they were themselves parked illegally, so they moved over the road. I had taken a pic of them being parked illegally so one of them started to tell me not to 'hassle' the others and that I would be in great trouble! They were aggressive and I have complained to Southwark parking. So, if you see them parked illegally, take a pic and tell them to move.
  16. I have noticed its absence too, but never asked the librarians, figuring that they would be unlikely to tell me exactly what the decision behind it was. I hope they bring it back.
  17. You could use them as bin liners. I, like lots of people, have not bought bin bags for ages and just use any carrier that comes my way.
  18. Medley, I am convinced that nothing is done by the authorities about the illegal parking, illegal employment (nail bars, anyone?), illegal dumping, illegal pissing in the streets etc etc because it might be seen as being racist, given that the businesses there are either African or S Asian-run. This is wrong, because most people - whatever their provenance - don't want to live, work and shop in such conditions. Most people would prefer an amount of orderliness, without having to pick their way thru illegally dumped, rotting fruit, and without their buses being stuck because Rye Lane has been clogged up with illegally parked vans and lorries. I have written to councillors, spoken to the local constabulary and emailed MPs but nothing seems to change.

Why bother ranting on here, other than to get it off your chest (if you forgive the flu-related pun.) Write a letter to the doctor and send a copy to the head of the surgery. Bleating on about it on the EDF will do noone any good. Get well soon.
  20. I am a big fan and laugh like a drain when she is on. It is embarrassing for all around when I watch it on a plane, with headphones on, because I can't help but roll back my head, hit the armrest heavily with my palm and repeat the punchline whilst snorting loudly. More please!
  21. You can get stickers warning people that not picking up dog mess could mean a fine of ?1000 from the council. Ring 7525 2000 and request them.
  22. The 63 (Kings X - Honor Oak) was terminating at Peckham Rye last night, according to a woman I met at the bus stop this morning. 363s were scant on the way down from Forest Hill Road into Peckham Rye.
  23. If you like an old-time boozer with a slightly faded air, go to the Coach and Horses, just off Old Compton Street (Shaftesbury Avenue end). Swirly carpets, someone tinkling on the ivories, cheap sarnies, the works. Your date will either think you plugged-in and rakish or a grubsome old prev. Either way, at least you'll know where you stand.

Try saynoto0870.com (I think it is .com) which gives you normal numbers for the premium rate ones.
