  1. Three cars were involved in a collision at the junction between Barry and Goodrich Roads, on the way towards Goodrich school. There was no ambulance - at least when I went past - but one of the cars was pretty badly crunched.
  2. Hello James, Even allowing for the usual, elastic council-speak (spring/summer 2010) this slippage is not acceptable. Neither is blaming it on the 'cold weather'. We had about two weeks' worth of unusually bad weather, and not all of that consisted of consecutive days, so using that as a reason won't wash. This kind of episode is why people get turned off from politics, local or national.

    Rant!!

We're all preaching to the converted on here. If it does bother you so much, either ask the litter-flinger to pick up after him/herself and/or pick it up yourself. Just do it!
  4. James, there are lots of weeds growing up out of the cracks at the bottom of walls on Goodrich Road, especially from the Barry junction upwards to Donkey Alley. Cd you tell me whether the sprayers will be coming around soon, and how often they are meant to do their job? Thanks.

    Dishwasher

Got a John Lewis one. V good. Stack it up to the gills and switch it on later at night when the leccy is cheaper (I believe) and it's all squeaky clean within an hour or so.
  7. Tell and sell. Thank them for their thoughts again and explain you liked something else better. Simple.

    Rant!!

Agreed. Hate litter droppers, and often ask offenders to pick their crap up after them. I also pick up after other people, especially tins and bottles on my road that I carry to the nearest bin or drop in a neighbour's recycling bin. I once asked a woman to stop dropping her peach stones on the floor of the bus but was interrupted by a man who told her to
  9. At the top of Bazza Road, near to the carpark of the Plough the new trees there seem to have died a death. All the leaves have fallen off. I got the impression they'd been planted to be hardy and adaptable to harsh weather - hot harsh weather, but they seem to have fallen foul of cold harsh weather!
  10. I think more bins and more announcements/posters asking passengers to use them would be very welcome. Also, a commitment to clean up the grassy areas behind the wire fences at least once a month would be great.
  11. Maybe they're doing a job share on the Court Lane works! Or perhaps they're in cahoots with the 'manana or the day after manana' lads from the Dulwich pool (remember it - big, blue, wet)?

    Sinus woes

Hmm. I have asthma and hayfever so perhaps that is causing it, but I don't have the yellow/green mucus, so perhaps it is not an infection? I do, though, feel sick on waking - no, not an existential dread, but more like the catarrh having dripped into the stomach. Mmmmm! I think I'll have to go and see the doc then. Thanks all!

    Sinus woes

Thanks! Has anyone had antibiotics to get rid of any infection? I will try the saline sprays twice daily till after the weekend and then think about going to see the doc.

    Sinus woes

Does anyone have any non-hokum remedies for sinus problems? I have had v bad sinus pressure for the second time in about ten days (the first was the other Sunday and it was extremely unpleasant.) I've been inhaling a v mild H202 solution, used Vicks, drunk ginger and turmeric in hot water, but it still comes back. Thanks.
  15. Lang - yup, it was precisely what you described that I saw. Glad to know it wasn't nefarious bin-rustlers.
  16. Wigan Casino! Isn't there a new film docco about it out at the moment? I remember seeing a review. All the big lads and lasses at my school used to go on about it, but I was too young to set foot there.
  17. Boutique arthouse cinema with Waitrose concession.
  18. Pizza Express had a board up over a part of its lower windows, as did another shop further down, on the way to the railway station.
  19. Cllr, Cd you tell me why Dunstans Road this week and CP Road the other week are being ripped up once again, this time to replace - not install - sleeping policemen? Was there a fault with the first lot? If not, then what was wrong with just waiting a bit to put them in, rather than laying down temporary ones? It seems wasteful of time, effort and expense.
  20. It was the same in the Goodrich/Friern/Dunstan's/Barry area, but since I posted on here to the Cllr the bags have been put on top of the bins, foxing the foxes. James - could you get the streetcleaners to do this borough-wide? Perhaps it's only the ones who do the beat near to me who are doing it.
  21. The Guardian's 'Work' section on Saturday has a careers Agony Uncle you can write to. If that sounds a bit long-winded, I would suggest listing what you like, what you don't like, what you are good at, what you are bad at etc and seeing what broad conclusion you can reach. It is also worth remembering that 'having the best job in the world' is a pretty recent ambition and that pretending you have to love - as opposed to like/tolerate - your job is a 'must have' only in the realms of Sunday supplements and glossy, high-end women's/men's mags. I don't mean you shouldn't strive to do something that's right for you, but don't fall into the slavish trap of having to have it all, including a wonderful, enriching, soul-enhancing career.
  22. dbboy - that sounds great, and makes me want there to be that much talked-about extension of the 63 bus route to HOP station.
  23. I saw about six sparrows hassling - pecking mainly - another sparrow (not sure whether they were house or tree sparrows) this morning in the road. They then all flew off. Could they have been encouraging it to fly, or were they more likely to have been beating it up?
  24. On the plus side, there is a fair bit more British fruit and vegetables - spinach, apples, pears, celery, watercress etc. Ultimately, it's a fair-to-middling supermarket. We are not going to get that holy grail of the EDF - an M/S or W'rose, so let's just put up with it.
  25. Er, have you been listening to any BBC radio output - especially R4 and World Service, looked at any BBC News front page or seen a BBC TV news bulletin recently? The story has been dealt with very comprehensively. As for the BBC playing it down so as not to cause a copycat reaction here, well, that's not even laughable. The coverage has included revolutionaries calling for an overthrow of the govt as well as from the rulers and from 'ordinary folk' caught up in teh middle. So, do a search and have a look at iPlayer and see what you can find.
