  1. Once again, I'll put in a good word for my postie. He just gets on with it, is cheerful but not too ebullient, friendly, efficient and he doesn't drop red laccy bands. Nero
  2. Cd you post the link here, pls? Nero

  6. But, Mr P, sex doesn't have to be procreative, does it? Nero
  7. Oysters from Falmouth were ?1.50 each, from Scotland, ?1. Why are they so expensive? Are they 'luxury' items that people are prepared to pay over the top prices for, or are they really worth that price? Nero
  8. Laura, Good for you. I like your style. Nero
  9. Today I saw a postie (on CPR) doing her business at 1345! I think this is a record, unless of course you know better* Nero *Reproduced without graceious permission of Esther Rantzen.
  10. I spoke to my good postie this morning and told him about the Forum and the problems people had listed. He said it was a backlog due to the strike and he also said it was to do with casuals. He didn't say exactly what the problem was with the casuals, but I suppose it is to do with their lack of knowledge etc. Nero
  11. I also find it very distasteful that shopping is classed as a 'leisure' activity and I don't like the fact that scores of soulless malls are put up only to be filled with the same shops selling the same stuff to the same people. I don't disagree that saving to buy something that is useful and desirable to you is a good way to go, but the aimless grabbing of smelly candles and fluffy cushions and overpriced gewgaws is disturbing and upsetting. My neighbour's son had his iPod nicked by a couple of louts who simply and casually walked up to him, after having got off the bus a stop after him and walking back to him, and said 'so, what've you got for me?'. It was that casual, that banal?. Nero
  12. Very cold? Get real. Nero
  13. But how many of you remember this bit of fem-rock? Nero
  14. You have a barking cat? Shame That's Life isn't still on the telly. Nero
  15. Spelling is important. Rightly or wrongly, it is taken as a sign of a good education. The very fact that people say things like 'I can't spell for toffee' or 'thank the Lord for spell-check' demonstrates its importance: why make reference to it otherwise? When I see posts from people on this or other forums with really poor spelling, grammar and punctuation, I immediately think they have had a poor education. I realise they might be intelligent or creative or a wonderful human being, but those things are not demonstrated by what I see in black and white. I think quite a lot of people would have the same response to a badly spelled post, and that's why I believe being able to express oneself clearly and correctly on paper and online is so important, especially now we see language much, much more than we've ever done before. So, good for the schools if they are trying to help the children 'write proper'. And to stay on topic, do the local schools produce good spellers? Nero
  16. They're waiting for the Zenorians to storm/burn down/blow up the ED Warehouse. Nero
  17. Peckham Rye has got its new caff
  18. And we all lost the taste for his food.
  19. I live opposite Goodrich, and I get a good vibe from it. The children and parents are generally very well-behaved. I have never seen any violence between pupils or parents thereof. When the children go to the baths or are waiting to get on a coach, they are generally lively and well behaved, with 'in control' teachers, who are not afraid to be pretty 'old-fashioned' in their commands, a la Grange Hill - 'Peter, be quiet. Sandra, stop that right now' etc. It seems very orderly: very little litter is dropped, the head is clamping down on people who stop on the zig-zags, there's a lot of laughter too. Can't say anything about anywhere else, but I have seen anti-Goodrich stuff being posted by some Forumites which, I think, is biased and prejudiced. My neighbour's kid went there and he liked it and she stays involved in extra-curricular activities. Nero
  20. Nero - the graffiti's been painted over - must have been something you wrote Spooky looky. Is this another coincidence (see previous Lounge thread) or do the cafe owners lurk/post? Nero
  21. Thank you Chomsky Piers. GPWM. Language is all. Nero

  23. Eggsactly the kind of eggsasperating yolks I was eggspecting from you lot! Nero
  24. So, does being English (by which I think you mean white) necessarily mean being shaming? What do you mean by it? I mentioned my neighbours' ethnicity just to show how diverse the area was, but attached no values to them. You, au contraire, did the opposite. If you are 'English' yourself, ask yourself why you felt the need to say it. It says a lot about you. And why is 'Celtic' - itself a debatable adjective - deemed to be somehow better than non-Celtic, for that is what comes across in the way you phrase your sentences. And for the record, I simply don't thank/curse the Lord/whatever for being lucky/unlucky enough to live with the neighbours I have. It doesn't bother me. If they start revving their car engines or rowing in teh street, then it does, in whatever language they choose to do it. Nero
