  1. Agreed. Went today. But there is bad graffiti around it on the 1 0' Clock Club properties that could be easily painted over. Any friends of PRP have an 'in' there? If not, I'll mention it. Nero
  2. I think there is still diversity around, especially away from the more expensive bits of the area. My next door neighbour is New Yorkian Jewish, my other is Irish, the three doors down family is mixed-race and the family next to that is Polish Roma. But I don't wake up every day joyous in the knowledge I am in my own little diversity paradise. I don't think it makes a jot of difference. Please someone tell me why, really why, it is sooooooooooo important? If people are well-behaved, respectful, and take care of their property and themselves, then why should it matter if they are gay/black/blind/amputee on a day to day basis? Is it jsut to make us feel all fuzzy and 'right'? Do we really culturally exchange when we say hello to our neighbours who are different from us? I don't think so. It's a big red herring.* Nero * This is neither colourist nor speciesist.
  3. G and B is great. The Clapham one doesn't have the same feel, but the wines, service are still good. Nero (BTW, James, I thought Mars etc. went back on their threat to ban veggy rennet? I remember thinking what a PR stunt it was when they said they'd ban it, then they reconsidered.)
  4. Before complaining, I think we need to know whether the new delivery times are the expected times, or whether we are being diddled. Since they got rid of the second post and did other restructuring, perhaps we are meant to get mail later in the day. Whether this is waht we'd like or not is a different matter. I made a point of telling the man at the Sylvester Rd office that we had had later deliveries and he said that this was to be expected now that the second delivery is no longer with us. Nero
  5. Mine's ok. Around 845 - 930. Used to be 8ish! Nero
  6. A little-known super-heroine It's SpiderWoman, or is it Spider Woman, or Spiderwoman? Nero
  7. This year I am going to buy books for everyone, probably hardbacks, and some organic, high-quality chocolate to go with them. Total cost, ?250 (plus p + p) or so. I'm not into the orgy of consumerism. What do other Forumites plan to spend and on what? Nero
  8. Organic Dairylea? I'm there. Nero
  9. I don't think most mums and dads wake up and think 'I know, in order to make out just how rich and successful I am and to fill an aching void, I shall dress baby in a trendy/retro romper suit'. They just think it's nice, it's cute, it's something to make them smile. I agree that it's daft to spend a lot of money, though, and there is a limit. Nero
  10. For the record, I do think that there are far too many Brits, whatever their hue, on some form of benefit who should be working, even part time. Cameron is on to something when he cites the Wisconsin model (a Democrat state that managed to get people off welfare) as the one to follow. Nero
  11. No injuries, no explosion, according to the fire people who've spoken to the BBC. Listen to r4 now for more. Nero
  12. It's a fire. Noone hurt, but hey, the pix are great and it allows witnesses to have their very own 9/11 moment, so let the news channels roll. Nero
  13. It's well written and he has a point. All in all, a good article, I'd say, whether on not I agree with the content. Nero
  14. Agreed. He came across as a clever man who had let his indignation overrule his innate intelligence. Political correctness is very different from anti-racism or common polity. I also remember people around me, in my family, saying racist things casually and without malice, it seemed, and agree that things have moved on, but that wasn't due to Cleckheaton Council (or wherever) banning Christmas, was it? Nero

    FreeRice

This requires much less effort! Nero
  16. At least teh sirens and chopter lasted for a relatively short amount of time, unlike the booms and cracks of the fireworks which are a normal noise, it seems, from October onwards. Ban them, I say, apart from small ones that should be on sale for two weeks only. Nero
  17. I have a spare blue box, with divider (I think). PM me if you want it. Nero
  18. But weren't the REAL Scots the Picts? Hmm? Nero
  19. There are two nice young women in there, who are efficient and fairly chatty and up. Nero

    Good plumber

Used David Sylvester, as recommended by some on this site. He rang to confirm he was coming, did the job (connecting a washing machine and taking away the old hot water tube to the old machine), and left. He was friendly, professional and he didn't charge an arm or a leg. He does wet plumbing, not gas. Nero
  21. And 'Fave album cover' was looking very stylish and swaggering while perusing the chart CDs near the checkout. Nero
  22. I love that: Rod Liddle - Call My Bluff. Ha ha ha ha ha! Nero
  23. And he called my post on brown-bagged booze surreal! Nero

    British teeth

I heard of that too. I think some kids at my primary had it done, too. Nero
