  1. Look here for more details
  2. Ha! It's ironic, in that the 'action' tends to be down the Green side of things, so I thought Upper East Side would denote our slightly outsider status. (Some readers may like to puke now.) Nero
  3. BTW, we on the Forum (well, a certain section of us) call the area the Upper East Side. Hope this does not put you off us! Nero
  4. Down South, Sierra Nevada - that's the one I was trying to recall. I drank it in a bar in Georgetown where I also recently drank Dead Dogfish Head. It was empty, save for me and the bartender, a former marine with a metal plate in his head. I told him that Stella was called 'wife beater' over here and he laughed. Nero
  5. P13s are mot that reg. I would think it would take up to 20 mins to walk from Ryedale to LL. If not the case already, get a Bus Pass and then you can hop on the first bus that comes going in your direction and then swap. Nero
  6. Dead Dogfish Ale from the U S of A. Nero
  7. I used to walk to LL from Goodrich (top end, near the school) to get the bus down W'Worth Road to Aldwych. Now I go down Dunstans Road and get teh 63 to Blackfriars and walk. Much nicer. Less busy buses, nicer route, avoiding Camberwell and Elephant. Nero
  8. Pie in the sky, but a decent art-house-style cinema would be good. And I'm STILL waiting for the new gym to open. Nero
  9. I just made and ate chicken* and mushroom* risotto* with broccoli. The latter was not that nice as the stems were too hard and stringy. Banana*, yoghurt* and honey for afters. G and T in between. Nero * denotes organic ingredient
  10. South Africa was friendly and scary at the same time. Nero
  11. Ganapati, I do indeed mean that one. Went there just yesterday, in fact, less than 24 hours ago! Had a great, sardonic but lovable server called Josh, who would roll his eyes and say 'Can I take your plate? I just love taking plates.' Nero
  12. The United States is friendly, though perhaps more formally polite than cheery and matey in some places. Northern England and Scotland are friendly too, in the give-strangers-a-Polo-at-the-busstop kind of way. Nero
  13. A sushi place, Strada/Zizzi, a bookshop like they have in Washington DC. Nero
  14. Jan T, Enough with the self-flagellation. If the alleged perps were all men, white and over 6' wearing red jackets, you'd be checking out all white men of that description. If they were all female, Chinese and under 5' wearing trainers, you'd do likewise. It's not horrible, it's human nature so don't give yourself a hard time (unless, of course, you actually are racist.) Nero
  15. These shared foot/cycle paths generate confusion, both on the pavement in question and on pavements in general. Will there be that many girls cycling to the school? I think this is wishful thinking and a red herring. I rarely see schoolkids cycling anywhere, unless they are of the very posh variety or the very un-posh variety who tend to cycle mean and low and in term time, and use pedestrian crossings to cross from footpath to footpath. Nero
  16. Monica, Is that every person in the wards you mentioned or just household? And will the businesses be encouraged to restrict the amount of plastic bags they give out? Nero
  17. I have longed waged war against indiscriminate kissing, especially when it comes to strangers. I offer a hand to anyone new I meet, and might kiss a woman or gay man if we get on especially well when we part. I just think it's false and is based not on warmth and friendship but out of confusion, embarrassment and not wanting to look out of place. So if we meet and I offer you a hand, don't be offended. It is just difficult because now we have a mixture of different cultures - Er, that's that multiculturism for you. (Nothing wrong with multi-ethnicity, mind, but that's a different story.) Nero
  18. Is it poss to go to Feltham from Herne Hill or from E Croydon and then get the bus? Nero
  19. I am taking Dulwich Cars (whose name has changed to something that I didn't quite catch, but included the word 'group') to Heathrow T4 tomorrow for ?36.50. I have Oysted fully topped up, but I don't want the hassle. Nero
  20. It might be sensationalism, but it's local sensationalism. Nero
  21. I'd weigh it up and would do my best to be impartial. Nero
  22. This isn't nice, but thankfully it's not got a picture
  23. I haven't had it for ages (missus). Not sure where it has gone to. Don't think they deliver to the Upper East Side anymore. Never mind, I'll just have to make do with Nabokov, Dickens and Austen. I mean, they're not the same prose-wise, and they could do with a point in the right direction vis a vis pics of kitchen units and ceramics, but they try. Bless. Nero
  24. Blogs are like papers. Read them, ignore them, have an opinion about them or don't. I'm not really a fan of any blog, but I do look at Landcroft House as I think it is well-written, informative and has high presentation values. On a related note, a writer in teh Spectator talks of 'blog-standard' in a recent edtion, by which he means that many blogs are written in a very similar, upbeat style of writing. I don't read enough to know whether it's correct, but it's an interesting thought. Nero
